To wonder what 'normal' people eat...?

Just that really.

I have problems with food...it's very much feast or famine and nothing much in between. So if you're 'normal', what does a days food look like?

Tia

OP posts:
Moln · 05/04/2015 20:55

can't really go through what I ate today as it's massively chocolate based, which isn't normal

I totally agree with cogitosum though about portion control - I know my portions are far too big. I think if I wrote down my standard day it'd look fine, but I'm overweight and struggle massively with stopping eating when full (childhood of having to clear the plate issue right there)

TheHappyCamper · 05/04/2015 20:56

I'll post what I normally eat in a day, but I'll also add that a 'normal' way of eating for me means that, like today when I've had 4 hot cross buns with lashings of butter and a huge roast pork dinner with 2 puddings(!), I'll have small healthy meals tomorrow e.g. stir fry. It all seems to balance out over the week.

B - porridge with blueberries
L - ham and cheese Panini
D - spag bol, sausage n mash, lasagne, jacket spuds, curries, chilli, pizza

Snacks - fruit, chocolate, sometimes crisps but I'd rather have chocolate, probably one small bar/biscuit a day on average.

I make a conscious effort to stop when I'm full, and always serve myself less than DH (he's 6 foot and I'm 5'5).

craazyperson · 05/04/2015 20:56

Today Ive had a bacon and poached egg roll,a pkt of scampi fries, for dinner ham joint dinner with broccoli, cabbage, boiled potatoes and cheese sauce, carte do'r cone and half a pkt of fruit mentos will probably start eating the other half shortlyGrin

nickelbarapasaurus · 05/04/2015 20:56

yesterday i had coleslaw, a cob, cheese, satsuma, half an apple (sharing a picnic), a sucker, pasta (with veg and cheese), another sucker, bag of pom bears and a finger of twix.

today i had roast dinner (mash, sweet potato, carrot, parsnip, onion, broccoli, peppers, sweetcorn, veggie sausage, bisto gravy); kale and nutmeg soup with 2 slices of bread and a sucker.
(the suckers are because we're a poorly household at the moment and it's all DD fancies to eat!)

LauraJA · 05/04/2015 21:00

I have four teenagers, and seem to spend all day thinking about food - planning, purchasing, preparing, serving, clearing up...I think in those circumstances it can be difficult not to obsess about food - it's there all the time, and it can be hard not to snack...

WigfieldRocks · 05/04/2015 21:01

Thing is all these sound very healthy - like people are careful about what they are eating.I eat similar to all these, today I had:
Breakfast - banana, grapes, yoghurt and sunflower seeds
Lunch - roast chicken dinner
Supper - just had a hot cross bun.
I'm trying to lose weight after baby number three though so I am being very conscious about what I'm eating.
When I'm being more 'normal' (for me) there would be a few more snacks in there.
It's good to be aware of how much you're eating I think - this is what stops me over indulging for too long.

House have a read through the Binge Eating Disorder support thread and see if you think it might help you. Not everyone there has been diagnosed with BED but most have the same mindset as you describe, are stuck in a vicious circle of restrict-binge-restrict. You will probably some useful ideas and suggestions and can join in if you feel inclined Smile.

MaryWithoutMungoAndMidge · 05/04/2015 21:06

Breakfast: natural yoghurt, raspberries, blueberries and a banana.

Lunch: vegetable soup (a huge bowl with chunky veg)

Dinner: roast chicken dinner (dry roast potatoes, steamed veg and steamed chicken)

Gymnast so I eat like a horse...

Breakfast... bacon, sausage, Turkey breast, egg, spinach, tomato

Lunch... salad with prawns, vegetable sticks, yoghurt

Dinner, leg of lamb, steamed vegetables.

Titsalinabumsquash · 05/04/2015 21:08

Average day,

2 Wheatabix with semi skimmed milk and a banana
Cup of coffee, 1 sugar, milk.

Sandwich on wholemeal bread, usually ham and salad
Small bunch of grapes
Babybel cheese or similar
Glass of fresh oj

Chicken, noodle stir fry (large portion, mostly stir fry veg)
Yoghurt

Drinks during the day will usually be another coffee and then 2-3 big glasses of water.

Snacks are either fruit or a biscuit or 2 if at all.

BIWI · 05/04/2015 21:11

Disappointed here's what I did - I wrote it up on my blog yesterday:

cauliflower pizza

ephemeralfairy · 05/04/2015 21:13

Today:

Hot cross bun for breakfast

Lunch: wholemeal pitta with mashed avocado and 2 rashers bacon, rocket tomato and cucumber salad.

Dinner: Grilled salmon with green veg and a spicy lentil and veg stew.

Snacks: Flapjack, oatcake with cheese and salami, fruit, yogurt, some choc as it's Easter!!

Also 3 glasses white wine.
Today has not been a 'careful' day; I have consumed a fair few calories I think, although I have had a fair bit of fruit and veg too.

TalkinPeace · 05/04/2015 21:15

Today is Sunday so not the same as any week day ....

Breakfast = 2 scrambled eggs, 1 rasher back bacon fried, three cherry tomatoes fried, 1 slice brioche toasted

lunch = roast chicken with bacon, carrots, broccoli, kale, leeks, potatoes, wine etc

Supper = cottage cheese and then a hot cross bun

CalleighDoodle · 05/04/2015 21:16

At work i have half a slice of toast for breakfast, applr mid morning. hummus and veg sticks, a small chicken bun, a portion of grapes for lunch, evening meal could be shepherds pie / pasta bolognese, chicken and veg. Packet of crisps in the evening (my downfall). I drink liquorice tea mainly during the day.

CalleighDoodle · 05/04/2015 21:17

I do
Find that i eat frequently but small portions. Portion size is what is key.

DisappointedOne · 05/04/2015 21:26

Watch your carbs, OP. They're what make you fat.

Thanks BIWI. The one I tried mixed ground almonds in with the cauliflower and it was foul.

mamaduckbone · 05/04/2015 21:38

Porridge, granola or peanut butter and banana on toast for breakfast;
Salad, soup or a sandwich for lunch, plus some fruit;
Whatever Dh cooks for dinner - sausage and mash, pasta, chilli, etc. - generally quite healthy and home cooked but portion sizes on the large size.
That would be a normal weekday, with fruit, nuts, maybe the odd biscuit for snacks.
I tend to eat more at the weekend when I'm at home, and have more 'treats' - cake, chocolate, etc. I have a massively sweet tooth but try to restrict it to weekends only.

BIWI · 05/04/2015 21:40

Disappointed - the base is variable in terms of its consistency - it is hard to get it dry enough - but it tastes really good.

MarwoodsMate · 05/04/2015 21:41

Today went like this -

Breakfast: piece of fruit Simnel cake Blush, well it is Easter!
Snack: A few Easter chocs
Lunch: Smoked salmon, small potato omelette thingy & salad
Snack: Another small chocolate thing
Tea: Chicken & veg curry (homemade) with white rice, glass of wine and yoghurt (for pudding)

DisappointedOne · 05/04/2015 21:41

Shall try that next. Thanks BIWI.

Totality22 · 05/04/2015 21:43

When I'm in my healthy zone I eat very well

Breakfast: 2 small slices wholemeal toast with peanut butter or porridge + yoghurt, fruit
Lunch: Soup or sandwich or salad (sandwich if I've not had bread for breakfast)
Dinner: Turkey curry with new pots and green veg / spag bol with salad / chicken stir-fry / chicken breast in breadcrumbs with sweet potato wedges and salad
Snacks: red pepper and cucumber strips with humus or cheesy rice cakes or fruit.
Drinks: water, 2 cups of tea and maybe a camomile before bed.

I portion control carbs with evening meal but have unlimited veg or salad and I rarely eat red meat.

I do tend to have one night a week when I have a take away or go out to eat and have a drink too. Other than that I am pretty healthy.

This keeps me at 8.5st and I'm 5ft 1in.

Now I just need to get back to 8.5st lol.

I put on masses of weight when pregnant.

BurningBridges · 05/04/2015 21:45

grilled bacon, scrambled egg, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes, toast for breakfast

slice of pizza, breadsticks and sourcream dip for lunch

2 prawn/crab fishcakes, salad and cous cous for dinner

half a bottle of wine, half a largish easter egg and some maltesers (none of those are normal)

Doesn't sound particularly "good" compared to everyone else!

Lancelottie · 05/04/2015 21:45

What do I eat? Umm... quite a lot, I think.

Not sure where it goes, really.

SargeantAngua · 05/04/2015 21:49

Ive no idea what normal is - looking at what the rest of you eat I seem to eat loads!

This is a usual day's food for me:

Porridge with oat milk/water and frozen berries

2x seedy toast with peanut butter, mug of miso soup, salad leaves, plain soya yogurt with a dash of honey or jam

Teacake (no butter etc) or slice of homemade fruitcake, generally alternate

Chicken stir fry with noodles, or shepherd's pie and veg, or something similar - Mum cooks every night

Couple of clementines, small bar of chocolate (cadburys 'little bar' for kids), mug of low fat hot choc

Lots of tea, water and some sugar free squash

queeneileen · 05/04/2015 21:49

Today?

B: 2 mini pain au chocolate
L: tesco low cal ready meal and a pack of kettle baked crisps
D: balsamic and olive oil roasted tomatoes with spaghetti
S: easter egg

Don't always eat chocolate though. And my portion of spaghetti was a good two-person.
