To think £300 a month is a lot?

DP has moved in. They have offered to contribute £300 a month to house and bills.

That seems a lot to me especially considering they often buy the food shopping/pay for treats.

They are adamant it's not enough!

Who is right me me

I'm confused who is they?

ChipDip · 04/04/2015 22:37

They?

Goldenyellowhibiscus · 04/04/2015 22:37

DP

Your post makes no sense, I have no idea who you are referring to with "they" as you haven't said.

PUGaLUGS · 04/04/2015 22:37
Hmm
SmokingGun · 04/04/2015 22:38

Dear Parents?

CrystalCove · 04/04/2015 22:38

Do you have more than one DP then?

TheWhiteRoad · 04/04/2015 22:38

Work out your monthly spend on bills, mortgage/rent and food. Your DP should fairly pay half of that when he moves in. Presumably he intends the £300 to cover food as well?

BalconyBill · 04/04/2015 22:39

Don't be obtuse! OP has used 'they' to avoid stating the gender of DP!

How much are the household costs? Work it out and split it in half.

lucidlady · 04/04/2015 22:39

It depends on how much it actually costs to run the house, ie rent/mortgage, bills etc.

Topseyt · 04/04/2015 22:39

They??? Has your DP moved in with you and offered £300 per month?

Your post makes no sense.

Goldenyellowhibiscus · 04/04/2015 22:39

I'm unsure why my post has caused confusion - apologies. I am tired.

My DP has offered to pay £300 a month which I think is a lot considering DP often pays for shopping etc.

Hope that makes more sense :)

I would want more than 300 tbh

PinkSquash · 04/04/2015 22:41

Partner or parents? Easter Hmm

Goldenyellowhibiscus · 04/04/2015 22:42

I thought DP was the correct form - sorry if not. I was referring to partner not parents.

OP posts:
anothernumberone · 04/04/2015 22:42

Are DP your parents or is DP your partner?

RJnomore · 04/04/2015 22:42

Too little. Half the bills including food. He's not a lodger.

Kundry · 04/04/2015 22:43

I think £300 a month is incredibly cheap given you partner no longer has to pay their own rent, utilities, insurance etc etc.

anothernumberone · 04/04/2015 22:43

X post sorry

TheWhiteRoad · 04/04/2015 22:43

Whether it is fair rather depends on the amount you pay in rent/mortgage and what your bills are like.

It is impossible to make a judgment either way otherwise.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 04/04/2015 22:44

£300 is cheap.

Gas/electric/tv/water/Internet/council tax, rent/mortgage

I doubt £300 comes close to what a person would spend on food, accommodation and bills. As others have said work that out and your will have your answer.

TheWhiteRoad · 04/04/2015 22:45

But presumably your DP will be saving much more than £300 a month by virtue of no longer having to run their own household.

Goldenyellowhibiscus · 04/04/2015 22:45

Bills and outgoings are very small hence why I'm reluctant really to take a largish sum: the main sources of expense are definitely groceries which DP tends to pay for so I suppose I was seeing that as the 'contribution' - £300 on top seems a fair old amount!
