To wish Nicola Sturgeon could be Pm

She seems so genuine and actually seemed to care. She came across as strong though which means she is pm material.

Ps I know its impossible but we all have hopes.

OP posts:
PrimalLass · 05/04/2015 09:21

And yes, we should care. I get that.

HangingInAGruffaloStance · 05/04/2015 09:46

I also want the evidence that Nicola Sturgeon is racist or anti-English. I'd be more than amazed. The usual crap trotted out by people who are too lazy to distinguish the polar opposites of SNP and BNP.

The stuff about her style is tiresome. If she was all glam she would be criticised for that! Confused

ljwales · 05/04/2015 09:49

Ot but has the tram opened and been a success ?

PrimalLass · 05/04/2015 09:57

It has opened and I like it. But we couldn't afford it.

TheChandler · 05/04/2015 10:00

She's no Helle Thorning -Schmidt!

Edinburgh's in a mess. You would think all those councillors, MSPs, MPs and MEPs, never mind the Parliament could sort it out.

No idea if NS is racist or not, but heartily sick of the SNP foot soldiers who tend towards the highly abusive on less moderated internet sites - the SNP need to be careful that's not the impression given.

Plenty of wee Nicola wanabees around who mistake a shouty bossy boots delivery for content.

HangingInAGruffaloStance · 05/04/2015 10:32

Well all parties have weirdos over zealously policing the internet. The internet is for weirdos! Grin don't know how any party can stop that.

Not sure about complaining of sexism in politics, then referring to our 44yo first minister as "wee Nicola".

HangingInAGruffaloStance · 05/04/2015 10:33

If Edinburgh is a mess isn't that a council issue? And the council is NOC. I don't know how much any issues impact on non Edinburgh residents.

BakewellSlice · 05/04/2015 10:34

wee isn't sexist though- I give you "wee Eck"!

HangingInAGruffaloStance · 05/04/2015 10:40

The pejorative "wee Eck" thing was weird. AS isn't even wee!

I do find it sexist applied to NS because it is part of the picture of referring to her as a "lassie", slagging off her unfortunate hair etc, and generally suggesting she isn't to be taken seriously because she isn't a six foot man in a suit. But I recognise there's room for disagreement on that one!

peggyundercrackers · 05/04/2015 10:50

Yep the wee thing isn't racist or sexist, I was named wee Peggy at school, and still am by so,e people, because my friend had the same name and was called big Peggy - she was taller than me...

BakewellSlice · 05/04/2015 10:55

I think wee Eck was originally a cartoon character.

Red Ed is hardly red either! There is a lack of imagination at work in the world!

HangingInAGruffaloStance · 05/04/2015 10:55

I don't think it is always that simple though. If "wee" is used to make a woman seem less important or relevant, to dismiss their achievements, then it certainly can be sexist. It depends on context and intent.

peggyundercrackers · 05/04/2015 10:55

And yep I would agree edinburgh is an absolute mess now - I'm sure councils deliberately make it difficult for people to get around and also put traffic lights everywhere to hold traffic up to support their agenda of it's getting busier - it's not busier it's just there is 100s of pointless traffic lights everywhere stopping people every 100 yards.

BakewellSlice · 05/04/2015 10:58

I find Edinburgh really bad now as a pedestrian, a lesson in patience for sure. God knows how those in heels cross the road!

StillLostAtTheStation · 05/04/2015 17:58

The trams are running. No idea if they are a success. I've used it twice but only to get back from Arnold Clark at Sighthill to my office when I dropped my car in for its MOT and then to collect it. Otherwise they are of no use to me.

They are much slower to get to and from the airport than the airport bus.

Originally the plan was the 100 bus to the airport would be scrapped but that had to be dropped since it would have left everyone living west of Haymarket with no public transport to the airport.

iHAVEtogetoutofhere · 06/04/2015 11:03

'wee' Eck was a cartoon character from the Broons

HangingInAGruffaloStance · 06/04/2015 11:08

Thanks for the wee Eck explanation. A puzzle solved!

Gillianschmillion · 06/04/2015 14:01

The tram debacle was started by the LABOUR council and it would have cost too much money for any other party to stop it. It was 'have it or be in debt' or 'don't have it and be in debt'. it wasn't a simple choice by any means

And you can fuck right off i can't be arsed going back and looking to see who wrote it with your looks of Scottish women comment. What a fanny for writing it in the first place!

DowntownFunk · 06/04/2015 14:23

I want her to be Prime Minister of Scotland.

I think she's great.

The smear campaigns directed at her last year and now this year won't touch her. The only people that will believe the crap printed are those determined to be be a hater.

"Wee Nicola" Hmm Hmm

PrimalLass · 06/04/2015 19:42

Exactly Gillianschmillion, the SNP tried to stop the tram project and were over ruled, and at least made sure it didn't stop at Haymarket (monumentally stupid idea if ever I heard one).

maninawomansworld · 07/04/2015 12:16

YABU. Can't stand her or the SNP!

TheChandler · 07/04/2015 13:05

I'm afraid I do have that can't stand her response to NS as well. I find her insincere and shouty. Very similar to Alex Salmond. I think both have one overriding aim (independence) and will do or say anything to achieve that. She is not someone I look up to or would want to emulate - there are plenty of hard working, diligent, intelligent women in Scotland doing some very demanding jobs, but I suspect very few of them would want to go into politics. If NS is taken as the figurehead of Scottish women, then you are doing them an awful disservice.

(I fully expect her fans to go through every word of the above statement with a fine toothcomb, and fixate on one or two words that they will take great offence to).

It is true though that the SNP, when realising what a disaster the trams were turning into, did try to stop it. I forget the reasons they couldn't. Does anyone know the reasons that the Scottish Government can't get City of Edinburgh Council's activities under control? Isn't that much of the point in having a Scottish Parliament, so as to have more control over local affairs? And why is it proposing to give more autonomy to local authorities?

PrimalLass · 07/04/2015 15:40

I think the reason they couldn't was because they had a minority govt and the other parties voted against them.

TwinkieTwinkle · 07/04/2015 16:32

Can't stand Nicola Sturgeon as a politician. Fabulous actress though!

DowntownFunk · 07/04/2015 16:52

Out of interest Chandler, what do you think of Creepy Jim Murphy and Kezia Deputy Dugdale?
