AIBU to think this is not appropriate for the office?

One of my team wore a dress similar to this today:

www.asos.com/ASOS-Petite/ASOS-PETITE-Long-Sleeve-Bodycon-Rib-Mini-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=4948857&cid=8799&Rf989=5011&Rf981=3677&Rf1012=4458&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=204&sort=-1&clr=Black&totalstyles=187&gridsize=3

AIBU to think it's not appropriate for the office? I didn't say anything as we don't have a formal dress code and didn't know if I was just being a jealous old fart (she's 10 years younger than me and looked very good in it)

Tighter and shorter Shock

That last photo is very short already, very long expanse of leg

I'd have thought anything with 'mini' in the description wasn't really office wear anyway

FirstOfficerDouglasRichardson · 01/04/2015 21:58

Is this a reverse?

Whilst I wouldn't wear it. I wouldn't be shocked if someone did in my work. It's figure hugging and short yes, but it's high necked, long sleeved, I really wouldn't have a problem with it.

chickentonightx · 01/04/2015 21:58

Bare legs and high heels passthecake30

Shorter and tighter than a thigh length body con?

Still, as long as she could perform her job it is up to her really surely?

How often were things being dropped to the floor anyway?

Doobiedoobedoobie · 01/04/2015 21:59

I'm with Laurie

Admittedly I've never worked in an office job (uber attractive below knee polyester nurses uniform here) but that looks wildly inappropriate for work wear to me, unless you worked for a fashion/ music/ arty type place. Surely mini dresses and body con aren't standard office wear?!

Eigg · 01/04/2015 21:59

I have quite erm strong views about office dress codes but I think this is ok.

grits teeth thinking about the woman in zebra print hot pants and 6 inch heels

WorraLiberty · 01/04/2015 21:59

No-one ever dropped dead in an office because they could see a few more inches of a woman's legs.

LosingTheWillToSkate · 01/04/2015 21:59

Worn with bare legs and stripper heels would be inappropriate I guess.

Worn with tights and nice shoes, probably not.

Doobiedoobedoobie · 01/04/2015 22:00

And no jealously here, I'm 5'10 and would look smoking in that top dress

Fleecyleesy · 01/04/2015 22:00

I suppose it depends on the office. At my previous office, it would have been completely unacceptable (they actually had a book of photos showing things that were acceptable to wear!).

But at another office, the bosses would have just let it go, thought that it was inappropriate but no harm done.

It doesn't look like work wear and is very short. I wonder where all the above posters work as this seems acceptable in their offices. I've never worked anywhere where it would be ok.

anothernumberone · 01/04/2015 22:00

I must admit the day one of the admin staff where I work came in with an equally short bodycon dress, a knitted jumper like thing with thigh high boots black suede boots, I did a double take. admittedly she looked great but it was an unusual office attire from my experience of office based work. I realised I was a jealous bitch and went back to hoping I would wake up skinny instead of having to work out to get there. If I am honest though I still think it was inappropriate

Passmethecrisps · 01/04/2015 22:01

But why are legs without tights inappropriate?

If there is not office dress code then there is no 'inappropriate' as far as I can see really. It is taste and ability to perform the job surely

Doobiedoobedoobie · 01/04/2015 22:01

Ah okay, add opaque tights in and it's fine I think. I'm imagining bare legs/ heels as per model shot.

msgrinch · 01/04/2015 22:01

I wear bodycon to work daily. As do my colleagues. They wear minis. Can't see the problem. Better than frumpy dumpy stuff.

theQuibbler · 01/04/2015 22:02

Depends on your workplace sector, surely? Would probably raise a few eyebrows if you pitched up wearing that at a a law firm, but no-one would bat an eyelid where I work (in the media).

RachieS1986 · 01/04/2015 22:03

if I looked like that id wear it too.

anothernumberone · 01/04/2015 22:04

But why are legs without tights inappropriate

They are not, absolutely not. The question was are they suitable office attire and IMHO in many situations they are not.

SaucyJack · 01/04/2015 22:05

Walk of shame. Bet she had a hot date last night and didn't have time to get changed this morning.

WorraLiberty · 01/04/2015 22:05

The question was are they suitable office attire and IMHO in many situations they are not

But why not?

I could understand if she was riding a horse, but working in an office? Confused

Koalafications · 01/04/2015 22:05

High neck, long sleeves, Oof steady on...

Grin
Passmethecrisps · 01/04/2015 22:08

Fair enough but I also wondered what 'appropriate' means for many.

I can completely see how if someone is constantly pulling or rearranging a dress to cover themselves that this might distract from work. If you were leaning across a classroom desk for example and having to hold it down or similar then ok.

If this person is sitting behind a desk all day I can't see where the harm is.

VodkaValiumLattePlease · 01/04/2015 22:08

I'm wearing this to my council office job tomorrow

New Look

Office fashion for woman has changed, the rules have been relaxed and it's not knee length pencil skirts ahoy anymore Smile

kali110 · 01/04/2015 22:09

Yanbu, worked in an office and that would not have been acceptable.

TheHappinessTrap · 01/04/2015 22:09

I think about what people wear, and wish standards were higher (what's this with pepole thinking that leggings are trousers? Cover your bottom people!). However, I prefer Flops post so I'm going to pretend I thought something like that first!

dreamingbohemian · 01/04/2015 22:11

Uhhhhh where the hell do you all work?

I don't personally have a problem with it obviously, but I've never worked in an office where this would be appropriate with bare legs and heels

It's a red herring to say, but did it interfere with her work? I'm sure I could do my job brilliantly in pajamas but those aren't acceptable either
