AIBU to think Wright's Coal Tar Soap is a right Bastard?

Has made me cry twice today.

Incident 1: Smells like my childhood. I don't know why. Cried.

Incident 2: Used said soap in shower. Really cried.

AIBU to think this product is a right bastard? I know, for a fact, shower gel has never made me weep.

It really is a Bastard.

It's great for making teen boys unsmelly though :)

iklboo · 30/03/2015 20:13

Brings me out in hives that stuff. Even being in the same room as the stuff makes my hands start to itch.

emwithme · 30/03/2015 20:32

I wanted to hug an old lady I randomly walked past the other day because she must use coal tar soap and vosene shampoo and smelled like my gran used to.

Alchemist · 30/03/2015 20:33

Lovely to sniff in the packet. Vile, for me, using itfor washing.

DS said I was "funny smelling". Hmm

YABU ;)

I love it! I kind of hate the smell of it but it's proper soap, not soap which is 'really 90% moisturising cream' and all that namby-pamby crap.

It, and Pears soap, are the only family soaps i buy, and are the only soaps which get DH clean after a day at work. (he uses his fancy shower gel afterwards, once the grime is gone).

SquinkiesRule · 30/03/2015 21:19

I used a bar of coal tar soap on a patient the other day, he had it in his toilet bag, I was immediately transported back to the science labs in high school Mmmm. Love it.

Alchemist · 30/03/2015 21:23

Pears is lovely! Or was

I have some after the Coal Tar is finished.

I may be back to lament Pears. I hope not :).

MrsBojingles · 30/03/2015 21:45

It's fantastic stuff for getting oil out of paintbrushes.

MissPenelopeLumawoo2 · 30/03/2015 21:46

It is indeed a bastard, it reminds me of my dear old Dad. I'll shed a tear with you OP.

coldofhands · 30/03/2015 21:47

I love the smell - it's so evocative. What or when of I can't put my finger on, but definitely something - or when

Yes, also to Vosene

What's happened to Pears? Please don't say 'improved'?

Alchemist · 30/03/2015 21:53

I googled soap reviews for dry skin and this one came up. Ordered a bar from Amazon - happy days. Bastard soap dryed my skin into out completely yes eyes could hardly see out of and it congealed on the bottom of the shower tray bugger to clean away. Wtf thought it was funny to recommend this crap.

heycarrot · 30/03/2015 22:03

Sorry that post is all over the place. Wine That soap...

Lonecatwithkitten · 30/03/2015 22:06

The smell of lifebouy for me. When I was still a large animal vet I had a client who must have bought up every bar of lifebouy when it was discontinued. When ever I did a calving there would be a fresh bar 'cause gel I knows you like a bit o lifebouy'.

kwerty · 30/03/2015 22:09

I would love to smell Aqua Manda again. The smell of my early teens!

kwerty · 30/03/2015 22:12

Oldraver .... a freshener in his drawers!Smile

Slowtrain2dawn · 30/03/2015 22:13

Yanbu. Smell of Imperial leather makes me really sad.

Alchemist · 30/03/2015 22:13

I used to use Surgical Spirit as a "toner". Lovely. Since learned.

I now cover myself in want to say lard which would be just as useful moisturiser most days.

Although I have dry skin, I think coal tar and surgical spirit will happen again.
