AIBU to think Wright's Coal Tar Soap is a right Bastard?

Has made me cry twice today.

Incident 1: Smells like my childhood. I don't know why. Cried.

Incident 2: Used said soap in shower. Really cried.

AIBU to think this product is a right bastard? I know, for a fact, shower gel has never made me weep.

coal tar soap smells of wet dogs

DH loves it, he's indoctrinating DS, now my baby smells of wet dog too :( DS (7!) thinks it's really funny!

I would love to smell Aqua Manda again. The smell of my early teens!

But you can, kwerty - it seems they've relaunched it Smile

Aqua Manda? I am swooning. From the charity shop today I bought a bottle of Vanderbilt and was told "nice".

There we are. Vanderbilt and coal tar soap = fancy pants/smelly sod.

I luuurves Wrights coal tar soap and use it all the time. Also using T Gell shampoo at the moment just for the smell.

Alchemist · 30/03/2015 22:31

I used to buy AM from the cheap shop in the Leazes Arcade. In those days (early 80s) I was doused in patchouli and slightly confused.

More confused at Aqua Manda being nearly 40 quid now!

Seriouslyffs · 30/03/2015 22:41

Shockers
I once won a bar of coal tar soap in a fancy dress competition in the pub.
Stealth boast Hmm Wink

Shockers · 30/03/2015 22:43
Grin

I also won a clothes brush. Proper classy joint, it was.

SecretSpy · 30/03/2015 22:48

DH used to use coal tar soap when we started dating. So to me it smells of clean, um, man parts Grin

thismumismad · 31/03/2015 01:11

Ok just thought I'd put my penny's worth here. Coal tar soap, always hated it, imperial leather makes me want to tear my skin off. I was speaking to someone who used to work for cussons and was told the most expensive ingredient in imperial leather was the fragrance. If you want a soap that is moisturising then you won't find that in commercial soap and you need to find some handmade. I've been making my own soap for quite some time because of the sensitivity of my own and my children's skin. I can honestly say that my skin has never been so good in my life.

AlreadyUsed · 31/03/2015 07:39

IKWYM FabULouse I would have the same problem with Imperial Leather soap, Vosene shampoo and Old Spice aftershave

lionheart · 31/03/2015 08:08

I buy it sometimes because it takes me back.

happystory · 31/03/2015 09:08

Imperial Leather, immediately transports me back to my grandmother's bathroom c. 1970. The other one that does it for me is a very lemony soap, I think it was called Zest.

Alchemist · 31/03/2015 18:01

I do remember a lemony soap but not the name.

How about Constance Caroll (sp) lipgloss? Dried your lips out just like you had been supping salt! Did smell like mint though.

Takes me back to being in my nannies bathroom.

roomonmybroom · 31/03/2015 18:10

I always have a fews bars in my bathroom cupboard, love it, along with Vosene, both used in a Dettol bath.
And I have Euthymol toothpaste too!
I do live the smell when they tar the roads, and petrol, jeyes fluid...... its not normal is it?

roomonmybroom · 31/03/2015 18:10

love, gah.

LoxleyBarrett · 31/03/2015 18:12

Was it Zest?

LoxleyBarrett · 31/03/2015 18:19

It was a sad day when they eventually stopped us making creams and ointments with coal tar (I love phenol and chloroform too).

It always makes me think of Harrison Ford!

When I was a kid & one of the Indiana Jones films came out they did an offer where you could collect tokens & send off for a poster. I loved Indy & used to cut the tiny pictures of the poster off the packets & blu tak them to my wardrobe until is collected enough for real thing.

My bedroom must've reeked Grin !
