Has made me cry twice today.

Incident 1: Smells like my childhood. I don't know why. Cried.

Incident 2: Used said soap in shower. Really cried.

AIBU to think this product is a right bastard? I know, for a fact, shower gel has never made me weep.

Pears soap and original listerine - can't buy either end up shedding tears for my gran. Her house always smelt of both

Concentrated chloroform water isn't strong enough to make you pass out - I probably wouldn't risk it with pure chloroform!

Ahh I haven't had a sniff of that years :( Closest smelling thing I've recently come to it is Dh's TGel :) I think it would make me have a nostalgic cry at the moment too.

And Ooh! Vosene

Love this thread.

4711 Cologne is my Nan :) She passed away when i was 14. She used to keep it dabbed on a piece of cotton wool in her pinny pocket.

Now - here's something - Fenjal. Very old fashioned. BUT - my god the body spray smells nice! I tried it in a cheapy shop a few months ago and was amazed. I remember seeing the packaging, when i was small, at my other nans, funnily enough. I think it was the bath gel.

DD2 (19) was with me in the shop and scoffed when i bought a couple of these body sprays. I sprayed a bit on her to let her have a sniff and she muttered and mumbled about granny scent.

WHAT did i find in her bedroom bin about 3 weeks later? ... two empty Fenjal body spray cans (neither were mine - she'd gone out and bought some herself) Grin

Was that the roll-on kissing potion lip gloss?

Love Fenjel - it reminds me of my mum who died a few years ago.

Another favourite is Badedas.

Polytar shampoo and Jeyes fluid. My granda.

Just joined the ladies on Mumsnet, after reading the comments about wrights coal tar soap, not realising it was from a year or so back. I have to say that I’m a young 73 years old Male, whom at 16, like most teenage boys suffered the dreaded acne, but on the advice of my doctor at that time, started using Wrights coal tar soap, with amazing results. So much so I still use it today, and I must say from day one until now, I don’t suffer with spots at all. Great soap.

It is a total bastard as it makes me think of my grandad and so does Pears.

Fenjal reminds me of my husband's gran. She died last year in her nineties. It still seemed too soon. I really miss her, she had great stories.

My MIL always wears Red Door, she wafts about in a cloud of it. Whenever I smell it I immediately connect it to her. I'm one of the lucky ones as she's a lovely MIL.
