I dont know why, seen an advert for one and they just look so calm, with snacks and drinks and newspapers

I'd just like to go to one then fly off somewhere gorgeous

its not too much to ask, is it?

Not at all. Me too. I got to go on one once and it was lovely.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 25/03/2015 20:22

I went to one recently on my own, it was lovely to have some peace and quiet.

KenAdams · 25/03/2015 20:22

It depends. The ones you pay for are average (although No.1 are the best) but the actual Business and First lounges can be amazing.

NormHonal · 25/03/2015 20:23

The reality of the BA lounges is that they are all ram-jammed and you're lucky to get a seat to quaff your thimbleful of mediocre wine and handful of kettle chips. If that helps?

The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at Heathrow Airport is, or was, amaaaaazing. Cool lighting and water features everywhere you look.

ssd · 25/03/2015 20:23

ooohhhh!

was it like stepping into heaven, all peaceful and quiet and someone smiling and pouring your G&T?

then sitting down with a magazine and just relaxing.....

Emirates business class lounge is fan blooming tastic.

Joyfulldeathsquad · 25/03/2015 20:27

The one in Mexico had free massaging chairs. Was dead posh.

TheHumanSatsuma · 25/03/2015 20:27

Full of slightly sweaty men, surrounded by phones and laptops and tyring to look as if they are 'busy'

HermioneWeasley · 25/03/2015 20:31

They are nice, but not worth £20 IMO

paxtecum · 25/03/2015 20:31

I thought you meant run away, become homeless and live in an airport lounge. Oh and then be in the Daily Fail.

mupperoon · 25/03/2015 20:31

In Thai First Class in Bangkok you get your own private room and a waiter brings you food and drink. No mixing with other passengers at all!

ssd · 25/03/2015 20:32

oh god that virgin clubhouse, I would sell a kidney to get in there Envy

how much is it, I cant see anything as common as money mentioned!

Been in the Emirates business lounge in Sydney by dint of being bumped off a flight, and placated by being upgraded on the next one. Was ace. I was on the champagne whilst DP tried to stop DD stealing businessmens iPads. I now always want to travel business and go into the lounges. I'm really very put out when it doesn't happen. Sad

Casperthefriendlyspook · 25/03/2015 20:34

Oh. Also had my nails done, read a free magazine, and flirted with a (probably gay) fabulous young man. Poor DP. He has suffered.

HazleNutt · 25/03/2015 20:37

I don't think you can pay to get into Virgin lounges, access only if you fly their Upper class. which is equally great.

ssd · 25/03/2015 20:38

thanks Hazle...

I'd love to one day go in the Concord Lounge at Heathrow Wink. I did get a business upgrade once but didn't have time for the lounge

SinglePringle · 25/03/2015 20:42

Ethiad First Class out of Abu Dhabi is Out. Of. This. World.

Incredible

ThankFuckSpringIsHere · 25/03/2015 20:49

Singapore Airlines beat them all. It was amazing. The Finnair lounges was fab too a well as Etihad at Dubai.

Trickydecision · 25/03/2015 20:57

We get the lounges on the Priority Pass list free with our credit card. Some are better than others, the range of food/snacks varies a great deal, but it is nice to get away from the hubbub of the departure lounge, you certainly notice the difference if you fly from an airport without a lounge.
We can take guests in for £15 so if the family is with us we usually cough up for them. It is one of the best features of our card and we make full use of it.

FelixFelix · 25/03/2015 21:02

We went to the little one at Leeds Bradford Airport before our holiday in 2013 and it was great. We flew late morning so it was all set out with breakfast stuff, so pastries, cereal, yoghurts etc and unlimited tea/coffee, soft drinks, branded spirits and beers. It was £20 each but by the time you've bought breakfast and a few drinks in the airport it would cost near enough that anyway. I'd definitely do it again.

RocknRollNerd · 25/03/2015 21:02

They vary - No.1 at Stansted was shocking last year - it went massively downhill - not sure if it was because they were losing the contract or they lost it because they were shit. Before then it was ok in that you got peace and quiet to work and food and drink for not much more than you'd pay out on the concourse plus seats. Business class at Zurich was fine and had free booze (many years ago). BA ones are mostly ok but can be busy.

FelixFelix · 25/03/2015 21:03

I am googling these posh ones everyone is mentioning. I am desperate to go to one Shock

Musicaltheatremum · 25/03/2015 21:04

BA at edinburgh and San fransisco were amazing. Not at all crammed and great food and wine.
