I dont know why, seen an advert for one and they just look so calm, with snacks and drinks and newspapers

I'd just like to go to one then fly off somewhere gorgeous

its not too much to ask, is it?

Bah. I haven't bothered with airport lounges since we took up cruising. Priority check in, straight into our suite and butler ready and waiting with cocktails. I hate flying now.

HazleNutt · 26/03/2015 11:18

Of course, the only way to really travel is on your private B747. Or G650 at least. But if you're forced to fly commercial..

You need to earn in excess of £100,00 for the NatWest Priority Pass.

I used to do loads of business travel so was on a gold card. It was fab. I really miss the lounges and the business class. So very much lovelier than slumming it.

Doesn't really matter now as, since the DCs I don't travel anywhere and my holidays are spent cooking and cleaning in various low rent holiday cottages in North Wales rather than being brought champagne and nibbles while I recline and watch films on the way to somewhere fab

I have a friend who got upgraded and so used the lounge for the first time in her life. She tried to pay for the drinks and snacks she had, thinking that's how it worked. Love her for that. .

The one at Malaga is probably my favourite, a bit barnlike but very modern and people are not sitting on top of each other. The only downside is they only give you 30 minutes free wifi. Tightwads.

PoppyAmex · 26/03/2015 12:08

Flew first class from Zurich to Sydney with Swissair and they had my initials in the napkins and La Prairie in the loos.

jay55 · 26/03/2015 12:16

I love starting a holiday in the virgin clubhouse, breakfast, champagne and the papers. Sooo relaxing.

I've been in paid for lounges when I've hAd a longish transfer so I can shower etc but they're just not the same.

Trickydecision · 26/03/2015 14:40

Ryan, that is true about earnings, you also have to pay for the c. card. However it more than pays for itself when you tot up what you save on lounges. DH and I made 18 lounge visits last year between us, plus DS and his two kids were allowed in free at one of them. Then the travel insurance covering us, with no age limit, plus the rest of the family, breakdown cover, and so called VIP treatment free when our sewer blocked the evening before NewYear's Eve and everyone else had packed up, then we remembered about the card cover. Saved us spending several days crapping into buckets.

DurhamDurham · 26/03/2015 16:15

We have the Barclays Additions account, we get sent an Airport Angels card every 12 months, we also get free travel insurance so it works well for us.

AtomicDog · 26/03/2015 23:45

ryan which NatWest account do you need to have, please?

hmc · 26/03/2015 23:52

I think that has been answered Atomic dog? (only scanned thread whilst tired so perhaps not) - you need to have private banking and earn in excess of £100,000...

AtomicDog · 27/03/2015 00:23

Yes, I saw that bit, but usually accounts have names, and it's about time NW did something for me!

AtomicDog · 27/03/2015 00:31

Ah, thank you. Didn't realise 'black' was a proper account, I thought it was just a CC.

tartyflette · 27/03/2015 00:34

Even if they're not that great they're still loads better than just milling around trying desperately to find a couple of reasonable seats on the concourse. IME thry are much quieter, have a reasonable selection of food and drink and a decent amount of space. BA Club World at T5 is OK but the most crowded. If you join an outfit called PRIOITY PASS (free with Wexas membership) you get access to loads of lounges worldwide at a reduced rate (£15?) and DH and I can easily hoover up 30 quids worth of booze and food in an hour or so . Once flew with the late lamented MaxJet from London Stansted to NYK (was a business class only airline) and the stansted lounge was not bad at all. About 7 years ago, anyway.

hmc · 27/03/2015 00:37

Agree 100% tartyflette with "Even if they're not that great they're still loads better than just milling around trying desperately to find a couple of reasonable seats on the concourse"

orangefusion · 27/03/2015 07:41

There is nothing good about the lounge at Cairo- it's horrid. Moscow ain't great either. Am sitting in Eva's lounge in Taipei now, is seventies chic, with the smell of hotdogs. But I've a glass of Chablis in my hand and sunglasses for the glare from the chrome and smoked glass. Best one so far for me is quantas at Hong Kong.
It's easy to be blase about lounges when you visit two or three a month (4 in a week this week for me) but I would agree that it's better than milling and spending money. It's clear that the rich stay rich because they don't buy crap at airports like the rest of us are prone to when faced with two hours of drone zone.
I don't get business class when flying- now that is worth having, I get lounges because of all the milles I clock up.
It's my job, I put in the hours, it's barely a perk. I'm knackered and jet lagged most of the time.

Singapore airline and Changi airport...can't beat it

MaidOfStars · 27/03/2015 08:18

When possible, we always book a lounge space.

However, we have a long haul out of Heathrow coming up and the only (non airline) lounge is one with a two drink limit, soft drinks included. That's one G&T! Not that we use lounges to get pissed, but I think this limit annoyed me, so screw 'em.

Bambambini · 27/03/2015 08:22

Changi is often voted best airport in the world - and for good reason.

Koh Samui airport is the sweetest, most beautiful airport I've used. The departure lounge is a lovely open sided bungalow with views of the surrounding hills and a giant Buddha. When they tell you to go to the next terminal, you got to the bungalow next door. Hope it's not changed, it's been a good few years.

Bambambini · 27/03/2015 08:22

Brisbane airport is my airport from hell.

Brainnotworking · 27/03/2015 08:44

Ha! Bambambini - try Frankfurt!! "Brizzie" is ok because it's not that big; Heathrow is my bete noir, despite the media luvvies raving about the new terminal (5?).... Have to say I love Vilnius airport - it feels like a train station and is very close to the city centre... Also a big fan of my local one, Schiphol; a good example of how a large airport can operate....
