Outrageous salad bar behaviour.

There is a really good salad bar at my work canteen. I went there today and there was a nice looking Greek salad type thing consisting of feta cheese, cucumber chunks, tomatoes and green and black olives.
The woman in front of me stood there for literally ten minutes and meticulously removed all the feta cheese and olives leaving just tomatoes and cucumber chunks into her pot and walked over to the till.
Surely this isn't OK?

Just some background info - the canteen is in a mental health hospital. I actually work in the community but our team base is kind of in the hospital. The hospital has very close links with a very prestigious academic institute. A lot of the people using the canteen are Consultant Psychiatrists/Psychologists and people high up in the academic world as well as us mere mortals- nurses, care assistants, O.Ts, admin staff etc. Nobody on the till is going to confront someone because they might be a professor.
This woman literally removed every olive and piece of feta one by one with the tongs. Anyway, I shall return tomorrow and remove every piece of aubergine from the aubergine, courgette and pepper salad.

Poor show- and what sort of fucking salad is a bowl of cheese anyway?

TwinkleThis · 23/03/2015 17:25

Lured by the excellent thread title (outrageous salad bar behaviour? Feck me, I'm in!).

But...SO many questions!

Is the outrage because the woman held up the queue?

Is the outrage because her the Greek salad costs less with fewer ingredients and she's a cheapskate?

Is the outrage because a Greek salad should be a Greek salad and if one wants something else one should choose that instead?

Is the outrage because her picking left the Greek salad in a disproportional state for others?

Certainly believe she could have done her picking elsewhere, on her own time.

Therefore, YANBU--I, too, am outraged. (I'm just not sure why. Blush)

Floggingmolly · 23/03/2015 17:25

You should have stuck your foot out and "accidentally" tripped her up, catching her haul of olives and cheese on the way down. You could have been through the checkout before she was even on her feet again, if you were quick.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 23/03/2015 17:28

Never in my life have I heard about drama at a salad bar Grin tomatoes are fucking rank. You should've fly kicked her and nicked her olives and feta in the process

comingintomyown · 23/03/2015 17:28

Seriously though this is a tale of modern times

" I love the feta and olives so I will take all of them and not give it a moments thought"

ilovesooty · 23/03/2015 17:29

I don't see why possibly being a professor means you can't be called on rude behaviour like that.
What's she going to do to pull rank in any meaningful way that she can get away with?

PingPongBat · 23/03/2015 17:29

Outrageous, does she think she’s at a Harvester?

ScotsWhaHae · 23/03/2015 17:33

Absolutely outrageous. That's not a salad she took it's cheese and olives, nibbles. I'd be raging. I am in fact.

Did you not say anything?!

StackladysMorphicResonator · 23/03/2015 17:55

I too am outraged on your behalf - what unacceptable behaviour! Very selfish indeed. Do you know who she is? Creative revenge required!

waithorse · 23/03/2015 18:13

YANBU. I would have left the tomatoes and olives.

Redcherries · 23/03/2015 18:19

I do stuff like this sometimes, I have crohns and have to be quite picky with food on occasion, during a flare I would be fine with the Feta and olives but wouldn't be able to eat toms or cucumber. I have the same issue with fruit salad, can't eat citrus ever and when flaring I cant have anything like apple or seedy things due to not being able to digest it so I have to select around it, I can always eat melon.

I wouldn't clear all of one or two items though, unless there was very little there in the first place.

AndyWarholsOrange · 23/03/2015 18:42

They have minestrone soup tomorrow. Maybe I should go in with some tweezers and stand there for half an hour tweezing out all the little pieces of pasta Smile

OP posts:
SaucyJack · 23/03/2015 18:44

Nah. Pick out the croutons instead. That'll learn the greedy cow.

WilburIsSomePig · 23/03/2015 18:52

Another one delighted with your thread title here. Outrageous indeed! Grin

CillaSlack · 23/03/2015 18:58

You missed a trick there op. Should have taken some 'sad face' pics and contacted the Daily Fail. With the election coming up this is a prime example of what's wrong with this country Grin

Edsgreypatch · 23/03/2015 18:59

I think it's outrageous for you to judge her, OP.
Did it not occur to you that she may have a Hidden Disability? No?
Or she's a wife who is contraceptively abused. How do you know she doesn't have tomato and lettuce allergies? hmm?

Give her a break and walk a day in her shoes before you judge her OP. She may be on the bones of her arse and having to feed her kids gruel from the Food bank every night.

AnnieMoor · 23/03/2015 19:03

Very bad manners indeed. So she left a disproportionate amount of tomato & cucumber for everyone else? Sort of thing a badly behaved child would do.

familymember · 23/03/2015 19:14

I think I've done similar in salad bars before. I also pick out the tofu from the mixed veg in Chinese buffets.

I would never take it all though, I always leave a few bits. Your woman sounds outrageous op Grin

VashtaNerada · 23/03/2015 19:20

I hate people like that! Everyone knows the feta and olives is your reward for putting up with the boring bits of a Greek salad. You should have headbutted her, I'm sure the police would have taken your side Grin

CaptainDingbat · 23/03/2015 19:27

I'm calling a strike tomorrow!

Can't believe this....pull the whole country out....some plonker nicked all the feta cheese and olives!! Shock

windchime · 23/03/2015 19:29

I would have taken the feta and left everything else. Cucumber and olives are the work of the devil himself, and my hiatus hernia cannot cope with tomatoes so a Greek salad is totally wasted on me obviously

TheSoulCakeDuck · 23/03/2015 19:35

I once had this in a sushi restaurant. It was one where the kitchen was at one end of the conveyor like an airport baggage carousel IYSWIM. Went on a Sunday for an all you can eat deal and sat at about the middle of the carousel. From to time batches of tempura appeared and one man sat right by the kitchen "out" hatch and he grabbed every plate of tempura which came out.

I learned a valuable life lesson that day - never sit down conveyor from the greedy guts Grin

FestiveElf · 23/03/2015 19:39

Great thread title! That IS outrageous - she could have taken some and eaten something else with it - no thought to others at all Shock Siphon off the tomato sauce part of the soup tomorrow leaving only soggy noodles Grin

DarthVadersTailor · 23/03/2015 19:48

Your work is being unreasonable. They should just serve the feta cheese!!! Grin
