To wonder what the hot hell this woman is thinking and report her (Facebook)

I know a woman who is currently training to work with children. Some form of working with children who have suffered abuse.

I haven't seen her for years but I know this because she posts about it on Facebook, mostly stuff warning parents about the various horrors of the world and how to keep their children safe. Patronising but ok, she's found something she's passionate about and it's a worthy cause.

But she has now shared a 30 minute video of a young boy being interviewed by police, going into graphic detail of sexual abuse he's suffered from his father and his friends. It's dated from last year on the video.

AIBU to be absolutely disgusted that this video is on the internet and apparently doing the rounds on Facebook? This poor child will now be recognisable to the thousands of people who have watched it.

AIBU to be disgusted with people who feel the need to share stuff like this with 'all parents need to watch this and be aware' type captions. It's always the same type of people. What do they get out of it?

AIBU to have commented that she needs to remove this and point out the irony of potentially endangering a child and compromising a child's privacy to warn others of child safety?

I have reported the video, though I don't have much faith in Facebook removing it.

Inform the police and social services immediately.
This is really shocking.
That poor child.

WhataMistakeaToMakea · 20/03/2015 20:10

Yep call the police and report it

wheresthelight · 20/03/2015 20:11

could it be a training tool rather than a genuine interview?

CundtBake · 20/03/2015 20:12

What would I say to the police? I don't know where the video originated from or everyone who's shared it?

OP posts:
CundtBake · 20/03/2015 20:12

It's a really young child saying really graphic stuff I'm assuming they wouldn't put a child through that for the purposes of training?

Sounds like a Police matter to be honest as he's a material witness. If it does get to court (not saying that it will or won't) then it's contempt of court at the very least.

Poor child. I hope he's getting the right support Sad

MerdeAlor · 20/03/2015 20:13

Whomever is training her needs to know what she's done. Her boundaries must be massively messed up if she thinks this is OK.

Unfortunately there are quite a few people who train in councelling that shouldn't be doing it and she sounds like one of them. Report her.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 20/03/2015 20:13

Report it to CEOP as well

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 20/03/2015 20:14

Send CEOP a link to the video, send a link to your local police force too.

ILovePud · 20/03/2015 20:15

This sounds utterly bizarre, I hope to goodness this is some kind of training video, you need to report it to the police, you don't need to know where it has originated from if it is genuine it shouldn't be circulating on the internet and they need to investigate how it came to be.

BertieBotts · 20/03/2015 20:16

I find these things bloody awful! I mean WTF, yes, FGS, people can understand something is horrible without exploiting some poor bastard victim in order for laypeople to understand.

And there will be sick fucks getting their kicks from seeing images/videos of this nature too. It has absolutely no place being in general public view.

I can sort of understand the argument of "People don't know how bad it is so I should show them so that they are aware" but really you'd have to be REALLY stupid not to understand that child abuse is bad. You don't need to know the details to want to protect your child from it.

Sadly it is not the only example of such things on facebook - there are a lot of them. It disgusts me.

Ubik1 · 20/03/2015 20:19

There are laws against identifying victims of sexual abuse. Is he identifiable in the video?

CundtBake · 20/03/2015 20:19

I'm absolutely raging at the thought of someone who would watch this video and decide it's a good idea to share it on Facebook working with vulnerable people.

Reporting it now.

How on earth was this recording released into the public domain? How does she know
that it is actually what it claims to be.

CundtBake · 20/03/2015 20:20

Yes no effort has been made to blur the child's face or anything

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 20/03/2015 20:20

It probably is genuine, kept for training purposes, not intended for public viewing, but somebody has leaked it. Facebook take ages to take these things down, I don't think they care :( Apparently there are entire private groups where awful stuff gets shared, but because everybody in the group is "in" and nobody reports it they don't get taken down and sometimes it trickles out of the group into general viewing and well meaning but idiotic people share it because "Wow I had no idea, everyone should know about this" - well, no, actually, they shouldn't.

Facebook should randomly screen all uploads and links, IMO.

Ubik1 · 20/03/2015 20:21

Has it been produced by charity or some sort of child protection charity?

I would report it to police and let them deal with it.

VelvetRuby · 20/03/2015 20:22

What???!!! That's incredibly shocking. Please report it ASAP to the police and fbook. What on earth did she do that for!

Ubik1 · 20/03/2015 20:23

Oh good I'm glad you reported.

Phoenixashes · 20/03/2015 20:24

I think I know the video you are talking about and it must be doing the rounds on FB. I reported it.

2lol2lol · 20/03/2015 20:24

Weird, are you sure it's not a dramatisation?? Some TV show?

BigRedBall · 20/03/2015 20:28

I hate fb when this type of crap gets shared by people. Horrible. Good job for reporting.

CundtBake · 20/03/2015 20:32

It's definitely not a tv show. It seems to be very real and I can't imagine a situation where anybody would have a child say those things if they weren't true. I've reported to various authorities. I'm just so angry that anyone has shared this and compromised this poor boys safety and privacy.

OP posts:
GraysAnalogy · 20/03/2015 20:32

With her training how the hell doesn't she know that this IS NOT appropriate. What an absolute idiot. How can people be so stupid and callous.

soontobemumofthree · 20/03/2015 20:33

Thats awful, and worrying she couldnt see how this is totally inappropriate to be sharing/viewing on facebook, even if it were training material.
