I've spent today getting quotes for my family of 5 to spend two weeks in Spain/Italy/Greece/Turkey. I'm astounded by how much it costs to spend a fortnight away. Mark Warner quoted me over £10k for s fortnight in their cheapest resort!!!

So where are you going and how much are you paying for flights plus accommodation?

Mamazilla you shouldn't have to justify the cost if your holidays and you certainly shouldn't be called liar FFS.

My brother also works in the City and probably spends a similar amount on family holidays per year.

I am very Envy at your trip to Argentina but not in such a way that I need to try and make you feel guilty or imply that you're lying in order to make myself feel better.

What does posting snippy little bitch plops about someone else's holiday actually achieve? I very much doubt it's going to make Mamazilla riddled with guilt or make her enjoy her amazing holiday any less. All it does is make the bitch plopper look envious and spiteful.

Sad.

£8k on flights/small group tour to Japan for 2 weeks. Two adults and a teen (=adult prices), middle of August summer holidays (only time we can all go). Will spend more on food and possibly a few activities there. We've done a few weekend breaks and individual holidays which add up to £3k.

We've only started spending this much in the past few years! I was a single mum with DD before then and often did youth hostel breaks or Sun holidays for less than £300 all in (for me and DD). But household income is better now as DH has a high salary and I've increased my hours.

£1300 2 adults and one child, flights, transfers, all inclusive at a 4* in menorca

MrsHooolie · 18/03/2015 08:42

£2900 family of 4 all inclusive to Menorca.
It's our first holiday abroad for all four of us,I am so excited. DC's (7&5) will love it.
Bank of Mum and Dad are paying for it as we've had a shit year and we can't afford it ourselves.

UnderTheDeepBlueSea · 18/03/2015 08:50

About £50 for the petrol to Bradford to visit MIL for a long weekend. Oh the glamour Grin

mollyonthemove · 18/03/2015 09:11

We are going to Portugal next week We know someone who owns a property there (on a very swish resort) so are getting a discount from them. We booked easyjet flights in October and paid £288 return for the four of us (looking now it would be nearly £1000 Shock ) - airport transfers £90 and spending money probably about £400. Can't wait Grin

Canada (Ontario plus Montreal) for 3 weeks, plus a couple of days in iceland on the way back. Flights are £2450 for 4 of us, accommodation about £2500. Probably about 8K all in. DH and I are attending a conference for part of that time so it's not all holiday, but it means our flights and some accommodation will be paid for (not the children's obviously)

The only really expensive holidays we have done have been long-haul holidays with the unavoidable high costs of flights, a longer stay, and travelling around. I'm not particularly interested in spending large amounts of money on European beach holidays. I may actually be the same person as rookiemere.

molyholy · 18/03/2015 09:32

Brittany in July (school holidays) for me, DH and DD
Booked direct with campsite - £670 for 11 nights to stay in mobile home. Site has pools/kids club/bar etc.,
Ferry - £430
Exactly same campsite on the same dates booked through Canvas, would cost £1600!!!! (ferry not included - rip off)

Hygellig · 18/03/2015 09:42

We have preschoolers so can go in term-time and are going to Portugal for a week in May. It's costing about £650 for flights and travel to and from the airport, £550 for a week's self-catering accommodation and about £150 for car hire. The accommodation is cheaper than equivalent in the UK but the travel costs are much higher. So about £1,350 excluding petrol, eating out, day trips and spending money. I expect it will be a lot more when we have to go in school holidays and children are older.

HamishBamish · 18/03/2015 09:42

Probably around 2k all in for our summer holiday. We're going to France, spending around 1 week with relatives and the other in a villa we've rented.

We probably go on 5 or 6 holidays a year, but the majority are camping or staying in a caravan belonging to my dad in the Lake District.

There's a massive range of expenditures on this thread, but like Mamazilla has said, it's all relative.

As an aside, did anyone watch the programme about Necker Island (Richard Branson's place)? It looked amazing. That's somewhere I would love to go just once in my life. Has anyone ever been?

GoooRooo · 18/03/2015 09:51

We're going to Hisaronu in Turkey for two weeks in May. 2 adults and one three year old.

  • £700 flights
  • £350 hotel (all inclusive!)
  • £70 airport transfers in Turkey

So £1120 in total

Then this side

  • £200 return taxi to Gatwick
  • £160 for the dog sitter

Around £1000 spending money, although I doubt we'll spend all that.

Chorister · 18/03/2015 09:53

10 nights, self catering in Turkey. At the begining of the Scottish school summer holidays. Booked through On The Beach, flights transfers and accommodation £1,400 for 2 adults and 2 children. Flying from Manchester so add a tank of petrol to get there and back and we have booked a travel lodge for the night we get back which was £30.

All inclusive for the same holiday was £1000 more. But after doing some research eating out is pretty cheap in Turkey and at the moment the exchange rate is brilliant. So we decided self catering was a better option.

bedraggledmumoftwo · 18/03/2015 09:58

Oh yes, I guess I should add that in addition to our bargain £4k Caribbean holiday, just dh and I are going on a city break to new york- probably £2k. And we have booked 4 flights to west states at Christmas to visit family, again business class ba but bought with avios, total of £4k, and infant is two by then. (normal economy tickets are over £900 each anyway) We cant stay with family as overcrowded so will spend maybe another £2k on accommodation over 3 weeks. May also do some skiing, but would have to pay for childcare and lift passes, so that could easily be another £1k for a few days. So expect that to be at least £8k for four of us.

So that is £14k over the year. Someone asked how that compares to household income- ours I c. £160k so say 10%? But this is a particularly heavy year as ba are devaluing avios in April, and we knew we would need to visit family soon, so thought we would do it now before dd1 at school and while avios redemptions cheaper.

GoooRooo · 18/03/2015 09:59

Chorister eating out in Turkey is dirt cheap! We only went for AI because we got such a good deal - and I suspect we'll out in the evenings anyway as we like to get out and about.

This will be our last holiday for a few years. DS will go to school next year so we'll be restricted to school holidays, and I am expecting another baby in Sept. Luckily for us we live on the coast with a beautiful beach (where I spent all of my childhood holidays!) so we'll have holidays at home.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 18/03/2015 10:00

£2000 for a fortnight in France. 10 days in a mobile home on the med coast, two nights at eurodisney and two nights stopovers (we're driving). That includes petrol, ferry and road tolls. That's in the school summer holidays.

iseenodust · 18/03/2015 10:14

Hippychick73 · 18/03/2015 10:19

Have a 3weeks in Dubai /Qatar so that will be around £3000 in May / june

Dubai again in Aug/sept £2000

Also have a trip to Austria £1000

VivaLeBeaver · 18/03/2015 10:20

Iseenodust, who did you get your Stockholm holiday from? I'd love a holiday like that and the price seems reasonable. Was it direct or through a travel agent?

AugustaGloop · 18/03/2015 10:21

About 10k for 2.5 weeks in Italy (mainly Puglia). That includes a week in a villa with a group of friends plus a few days in a hotel before and another week afterwards yet to be booked - trying to decide between a couple of options. We could definitely go to the same area for less but can afford it and holidays are our main extravagance. I have a pretty full on job.

We went skiing for a week in Feb. I guess about 5k for 4 of us. Easter we are just doing a couple of long weekends in this country, May half term a week in the Canaries with PILs about 2k. We will probably also go somewhere in Oct half term. DC have suggested New York. I am thinking Mauritius.

Probably more interesting to compare expenditure as a percentage of income or disposable income than just looking at absolute numbers.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 18/03/2015 10:22

Place marking! Need to scroll back to that Stockholm holidaySmile

Carrie5608 · 18/03/2015 10:25

About £2500 for six in villa in spain incl easyjet flights & car hire. Have a look at villaplus and James Villas. Would also really recommend Lanz luxury villas for Lanzarote.

Mark Warner is very expensive. Packages are too if you are not the 2Ad 2ch they are priced on.

Mamazilla · 18/03/2015 10:26

Less than 5% of our combined pre-tax income.

exmrs · 18/03/2015 10:27

Mamazilla please can you adopt my son and I Smile

wigglesrock · 18/03/2015 10:30

2,200 for a week - villa in Estepona, Spain. There's 11 of us going, extended family type thing. Flights were paid for by a relative and villa hire cost is being divided up.
200 for hire of a house on the North Antrim coast for a week ( no travel costs, bar petrol)

Last year we went to Ibiza - 5 of us AI, first week of July for 2,300
