I've spent today getting quotes for my family of 5 to spend two weeks in Spain/Italy/Greece/Turkey. I'm astounded by how much it costs to spend a fortnight away. Mark Warner quoted me over £10k for s fortnight in their cheapest resort!!!

So where are you going and how much are you paying for flights plus accommodation?

We paid £1,800 for 10 nights in Egypt AI in February for a family of 4.

In the summer we have spend £1300 on flights to Dubrovnik and a flat through Owners Direct in Montenegro for a week. We will have to hire a car and there will be a lot of spends - probably another £1k

We would normally only have one holiday but we didn't get one last year due to illness. I love comparing. It's v interesting :-)

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 18/03/2015 11:42

saresy we're holiday twins. We went to Croatia and Montenegro last summer (we drove through most of the Balkans, actually) and we're going to do it again this summer. Lovely part of the world.

Roussette · 18/03/2015 11:43

p.s. I don't begrudge it one little bit, it's just a complete eye opener for me as I would hate to spend that much on holidays that are gone in the blink of an eye. I love experiences, I love travel but I'd like to spend that amount of money on the house or something.

NickiFury · 18/03/2015 11:45

About £1100 for 10 days in Dubai. Flights in the BA sale with a substantial saving and three nights in a hotel. The rest of the time will be spent staying with family. There's three of us.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 18/03/2015 11:48

Wow Nicki you did extremely well on your Dubai flights. Nice work. Smile

MajesticWhine · 18/03/2015 11:48

My super-rich DM is paying for us all to go to Greece this year. I have no idea of the cost, but I would be guessing > 8k for 7 people, for 10 days.

MadeInChorley · 18/03/2015 11:50

£2000 for 10 days self catering in a gite in Normandy in August. 2 x adults, 2 x under 5's. Includes ferry and petrol. Food and day trips on top.

Boobsofsteel · 18/03/2015 11:51

£650 for 8 nights in France with Eurocamp for 2 adults and 2 kids. Would have been £320 but we like the longer ferry so we don't have to spend as long in the car.

hippo123 · 18/03/2015 11:58

2400 k for 2 weeks in Greece in august for 2 adult 2 kids, b&b board at 3 star hotel. Hopefully taking about 1k spending money.

Sprucegoose · 18/03/2015 12:24

We're going to Singapore and Borneo for 2.5 weeks in June. £3,500 for flights from the UK, flights in Asia and all accommodation for two adults, a 4 year old and a 1 year old. Then Turkey in September for a week, staying at a small hotel on the beach, £800 for flights and accommodation.

DamsonInDistress · 18/03/2015 12:25

The thing is as Mamazilla says, on two top end City salaries they're probably bringing in around £1m pre tax including bonuses between them. And assuming some canny investments and property, them £50k+ on holidays in a year is probably perfectly normal and acceptable for someone with that income. Why wouldn't it be in a way? Yes I'd love that sort of lifestyle, I'm sure we all would, but they have it, I don't, so what? I get the amazement I really do, but not the accusations of lying and the nasty undertone of jealousy.

PS Mamazilla - adopt me too!

pinkisthenewpink · 18/03/2015 12:33

£1,600 5 days skiing at (Staying with friends so free accomodation)
£1000 uk for a week uk summer hols
£400 spain for a week in October half term (staying with family so again free accomodation)

For family of 4 not including spending money, but that should be £400-500 per holiday.

OwlAlwaysBeeBear · 18/03/2015 13:04

£1500 for 2 adults for 1 week in Meloneras, Gran Canaria.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 18/03/2015 13:09

I suppose that is true Damsel. In fact, on that kind of income £70k is probably much more affordable than my £4.7k is to me!

troubleinstore · 18/03/2015 13:10

£1600 two adults two children 4 nights children, 4 nights Amsterdam 4 star hotel, follwed by 7 nights 2 bed holiday apartment Croatia self catering - so food on top plus spends still t pay. (Mid August)
Booked all online, no holiday companies, job done... and lots cheaper!

AndHarry · 18/03/2015 13:11

Which campsite are you going to boobsofsteel?

troubleinstore · 18/03/2015 13:11

*scuse typos!

bigTillyMint · 18/03/2015 13:15

No idea, but the flights to NZ cost about £4700 for the four of us.
We are going for 3 and a half weeks and will be staying with friends/in hotels, hiring a car and we need to get flights back to Auckland from Christchurch.

101handbags · 18/03/2015 13:23

We're going to St Ives for a week - my sister has found a beautiful house to rent for £2,400 for the week. We'll be dividing the cost between 6 of us as 3 generations of the family are going. So £800 for me & DP plus petrol from London, plus spending money.

HighwayDragon · 18/03/2015 13:26

Nothing, not having a holiday at all this year. Didn't last year either.

Umbrelladilemma · 18/03/2015 13:32

About £3000 to fly to south of France plus a reasonably pricey villa for 1 week. Was very keen to go to a lovely resort in Portugal/Greece etc but left booking too late and just couldn't justify £450+ pp on flights.

bedraggledmumoftwo · 18/03/2015 13:51

I don't think anyone else has actually compared their holiday spend to household income. What percentage would it be?

PrimalLass · 18/03/2015 13:52

No idea yet.

We have some Avios points, and some Clubcard points. But BA are 'shafting the regions' as usual so we lose the 'free' Scotland-London transfers as of the end of April. I can't decide whether to change CC points to Avios and book South of France flights now, or save them and start changing my points to Virgin miles and save up for a big big holiday for a few years time (NY, Florida etc). Virgin seem to be a better deal now that they do Scotland connecting flights.

OvertiredandConfused · 18/03/2015 14:02

Gosh, my DH thinks £2k plus £750 spends is expensive for 2 weeks at the top end (albeit self catering) place in Cornwall. Feeling quite virtuous now!

DamsonInDistress · 18/03/2015 14:08

On the holiday spend as % of household income point, our £3.5k + £1k spending is less affordable at @9% of income than Mamazillas is at 5%. So it's really not about the absolute cash cost is it, more about the relative values.
