Tsp of bicarbonate of soda in a glass of water with 2 paracetamols. Instant cure (obviously only if it's not an infection though)

housemoverihope · 14/03/2015 09:17

Or baking powder (just a bit floury but effect is the same)

DrCoconut · 14/03/2015 09:19

Get seen by dr ASAP. If you have a UTI it can spread up really fast. In the meantime if you have pearl barley make barley "tea" by soaking half a mug of barley in boiling water (to the top of the mug). Let it cool a bit then drink. Tastes bad but relieves the burn.

RoganJosh · 14/03/2015 09:19

A teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a glass of water. It tastes of soap though. You need to down it all in one and have a glass of squash or something ready to take a gulp from before you breathe and get the taste.
By creating a less acidic environment in your bladder/urine the bugs are killed apparently. Seems to work.

MagelanicClouds · 14/03/2015 09:20

The Boots Own Brand cystitis relief sachets always worked best for me, they've got Sodium Citrate in them that neutralises all the acid. Plenty of water to drink and don't hold it in!
See your GP if still suffering after more than 48 hours.
Hope you feel better soon!

Sit in a warm bath and try an antacid drink. Barly water is very good but takes time. Cranberry juice is recommended too.

Jennyjenjenjen · 14/03/2015 09:21

Thanks guys. The burn is AWFUL

I used to get it regularly. I would drink pints and PINTS of water, literally as much as I could cope with and wait as long as I possibly could without wetting myself before having a wee. Usually at least 90mins.
I usually had a few gallons to pee out by then and it seemed to flush it all out.
But if it's established you'll need antibiotics.

fairyfuckwings · 14/03/2015 09:22

Lemon barley water sometimes works. Or antibiotics unfortunately. ..

GraduallyGoneInsane · 14/03/2015 09:24

Bicarb. A teaspoon in a glass of water. Tastes vile, but works. That's what's in most of the pharmacy versions of cystitis sachets according to my GP. Doctor if it doesn't improve within a day or 2, as water infections can be dangerous.

LastGleaming · 14/03/2015 09:24

Antibiotics, sorry. Mine never seems to be just cystitis and goes straight to UTI.

BernadetteMatthews · 14/03/2015 09:26

Oh you poor thing. You need paracetamol and ibuprofen together and then get to a doctor.

The bicarb stuff doesn't work well for me and drinking lots makes the peeing more frequent. Need bed rest and painkillers.

WyrdByrd · 14/03/2015 09:28

I've also heard cranberry juice is good but it needs to be the full sugar one. Apparently the process of making it low sugar kills the enzyme that helps.

Fluffyears · 14/03/2015 09:29

Cranberry juice helps. I couldn't use the boots sachets they made me sick as they tasted so bad. Stay away from alcohol, I made myself really ill with one glass of wine.

Jennyjenjenjen · 14/03/2015 09:30

Trend who lives 2 minutes away has spare antibiotics she thinks. Woooooooooo hooooooooooooooooo

Antibiotics. Kidneys are useful things - don't mess with them.

TyrannosaurusBex · 14/03/2015 09:31

The only thing that works for me is aloe vera juice. Half a pint at a time. It tastes disgusting, try to gulp it down, may cold as possible. Then another half pint an hour later. It's miracle stuff.

Jennyjenjenjen · 14/03/2015 09:32

I've got some aloe in the fridge. Do you drink it undiluted ?

OP posts:
TyrannosaurusBex · 14/03/2015 09:32

Should also mention re: aloe Vera juice, not while pregnant.

TyrannosaurusBex · 14/03/2015 09:33

Yes, undiluted. Gross, I know.

Dumbledoresgirl · 14/03/2015 09:33

ANTIBIOTICS ANTIBIOTICS ANTIBIOTICS!!!

Get to your OOH doctors asap and get ANTIBIOTICS.

Seriously. Nothing else works and untreated the infection can get up into your kidneys and cause you pain that will make the burning of weeing seem like child's play.

ghostyslovesheep · 14/03/2015 09:34

don't take random antibiotics from a mate !!!!!! AB's are usually treatment specific

Try bog standard cystitis treatment from the chemist first - if that doesn't begin to work (ask the chemist for advice) then contact your GP

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 14/03/2015 09:36

'Spare antibiotics'? Wtf. Get them from your doctor, slap your friend for being an idiot and make sure she disposes of them propery

Whatisaweekend · 14/03/2015 09:36

Anti-biotics! But to stop it returning, drink cranberry juice every day - I think something in the compounds stops bacteria adhering to the bladder wall or something! If you cannot bear the juice then you can get capsules to take. I feel your pain, I used to get it badly all the time and I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy! Hope you feel better soon.
