Lemon squash.

Then have a bath with nothing but water. Relax and just open your bladder so if you pee you pee, most likely you won't but it means you can try and it won't hurt

Good luck x

No sorry guys. She had bad cystitis a week ago. They are for cystitis and I've taken that type before

How would you have 'spare antibiotics'?? The idea is you complete the course.

PrincessOfChina · 14/03/2015 09:52

I have been prescribed spare antibiotics for this situation before as I'm another who always seems to have it go straight to her kidneys.

mousmous · 14/03/2015 09:58

don't take prescription meds from a friend!

mousmous · 14/03/2015 10:06

she shouldn't have spare..
and anyway you don't know if they are the right kind for you.

Dunkling · 14/03/2015 10:10

There is a cystitis over the counter sachet you can buy called Oasis, has worked for me.

If you have help around the house, and can escape for a while too, I find sitting on the loo with a big jug of water and glass, and just drinking and peeing, drinking and peeing and not holding in at all, stops you too-ing and froing for a while and keeps on flushing through and through.

ghostyslovesheep · 14/03/2015 10:13

your friend needs to take ALL the antibiotics she was prescribed Hmm

You don't even know if you NEED them - try cystitis treatments first

Unless you have other symptoms besides burning pee - such as a high temp or back pain - in which case see a doctor and get your own antibiotics

Jennyjenjenjen · 14/03/2015 10:16

Won't take them xx

The only thing that ever worked for me was to keep drinking water and tea. It goes after about 5 good (Niagara falls style) pees. Just remember to keep the fluids up or it'll come back.

Wantsunshine · 14/03/2015 10:20

If your friend has been given additional antibiotics I wouldn't see an issue in using them. Clearly I'm in the minority though and think you should be able to get them from the chemist

PurpleWithRed · 14/03/2015 10:21

Drink loads, drugs if getting worse.

Humansatnav · 14/03/2015 10:22

Hot water bottle on your tummy, and drink little and often. Call ooh doctor.

roomonmybroom · 14/03/2015 10:25

Potassium citrate from the chemist, tastes vile but helps greatly (it is the main ingredient of the over the counter treatments, but pure and much more effective) but agree with others you do need to see a GP, but being the weekend suppose no chance of that!

SueChef · 14/03/2015 10:26

The stuff you can buy over the counter is pretty good

Bythedowns2 · 14/03/2015 10:26

I have just been diagnosed with intercysital cysitis after suffering for years on and off . I was told not to drink cranberry juice! I was drinking plenty stopped helped my symptoms massively. To much sugar is sometimes bad for the bladder plus any fruit juice is acidic makes burning and tummy pain worse. My only advise is to drink plenty of water and the sachets dilute the urine making it less acidic if that doesn't help after 8 hours or your feel unwell go to the docs!

Debinaround · 14/03/2015 10:27

Hope your feeling a bit better op.

No other advice except if you still have it in 2 days get yourself to the doctors with a pee sample and insist that they send it off to the hospital for testing.

I suffered for an extra 5 days and ended up with a kidney infection and unpaid time off work because they didn't give me the right antibiotics. And it was costing me £7 for every useless prescription they gave me. (Not that I cared about the money. At the time I would have paid £100 to get rid of the bugger!)

mrsallergy · 14/03/2015 10:27

Half a pint of water every 20 minutes until u see a doctor. Alternate it with fresh cranberry juice every now and then.

Fairylea · 14/03/2015 10:28

I suffer from chronic bouts of cystitis and I have a regular supply of long term antibiotics that I self regulate and medicate depending on how I feel. If you suffer with cystitis regularly (or anyone on this thread does) ask for a referral to a urologist and see if you can go on a long term antibiotic. I've taken them since 14, I'm now nearly 35 and its changed my life.

Babynamechange · 14/03/2015 10:32

I used to get recurring cystitis and the only thing that worked, usually within a few hours was waterfall D-Mannose by sweet cures. You can get it on amazon and I always have some in the cupboard.
I hated taking antibiotics and it always seemed to come back. This stuff was like a miracle when I discovered it and is absolutely amazing in my opinion
Good luck, it's just so horrible x

lornathewizzard · 14/03/2015 10:37

The thing about a lot of this advice is it only works for certain people. I used to suffer loads and I wouldn't dream of tea, lemon squash or holding it in.
The bicarb in water should help, although it tastes bogging. Much cheaper than the sachets too. Loadsa water, loadsa peeing.

I took cranberry tablets for years and it seemed to stop it happening. That and sensible post sex hygiene (damn you honeymoon cystitis!)

Go to the docs if no better by Monday

blongo · 14/03/2015 10:39

OP, I was prone to cystitis from as young as 4. I know this doesn't help you at this precise moment but I have a 'way of life' plan: drink plenty of water every day, have a glass of cranberry juice every day, never have baths, always wear cotton only knickers, wash before and after sex.

PilchardPrincess · 14/03/2015 10:45

Cystoleve or similar from chemist. It neutralises the acid and stops the burn.

If you see blood go to doc asap.
If it's not better in a day or two see doc.

Last time I had terrible cystitis and went to doc he told me that they weren't supposed to prescribe antibiotics for cystitis and it will clear up by itself in a few days THE BASTARD.

So it didn't and it was agonising and I went back a couple of days later and saw someone else who prescribed me some antibiotics and it was feeling better within 24 hours.

First doc had given me the eyebrow like I was a lightweight or something well MATE you obviously haven't ever had it feel like you're pissing cut glass then have you.

Getting all angry again now!

Also, don't take antibiotics from your friend Confused she should have finished the course herself, and you will need a full course.

PilchardPrincess · 14/03/2015 10:45

Oh YY like PP says always have a wee after sex that has helped a lot.

blongo · 14/03/2015 10:48

yes, should have said, wash and wee before and after sex
