If you could retrain as anything what would it be?

I'm a PA and a bloody good one (if I do say so myself) - am on mat leave from being PA to a Director... there's some satisfaction in what I do (I manage some projects solo, etc.) but most of my role is frantic last-minute activity for someone else, in office 8am - 6pm and contactable until 10pm (US company)...
I'm just wondering if you could retrain as something else, what would it be??
Money being no object (ha, wouldn't that be nice?!)
I wish I'd taken my degree more seriously (not majored in art history! why???!)
I think I might have enjoyed graphic design... maybe even accountancy...

Actor / singer. Excelled at school then......nothing. Life got in the way. Do a bit of singing for fun now, but have accepted it will never be anything more than a hobby. Am currently doing a degree now though, and hope to eventually work with young offenders, (rehabilitation). Would also adore to have my own animal rescue, with particular emphasis on horses and donkeys, but there's no way that's happening unless the lottery numbers come up. Grin

Political risk analyst. I actually have the academic qualifications but I never seemed to be able to get a job in the field. Sad

turquoiseamethyst · 05/03/2015 17:51

Social worker

HemlockStarglimmer · 05/03/2015 18:56

Singer.

It'd be great to be paid for doing something I enjoy. Voice training would be great.

TimeSprout · 05/03/2015 19:10

Absolutely anything to get me out of admin in the NHS. I die a little inside every time I walk into the office.

In the process of completing the UCAS stuff to go to uni to work in the theatre dahhhhling. I'm absolutely terrified!

MrsC2810 · 05/03/2015 19:27

I'd love to be a pilot.

Gatehouse77 · 05/03/2015 19:28

Child psychologist or education psychologist.

If I'd had the right guidance and direction from my parents then I might have done it from the off. I did look into retraining but it would take longer than I can afford without earning.

21pc · 05/03/2015 19:34

Child or educational psychologist

And I will one say! (Am currently a teacher)

I'm a speech therapist but have always hankered after the idea of being a surveyor/civil engineer - or what ever that job is where they get to stand on the side of the road with a tripod. I sometimes wish I had gone for a more outdoorsy job.

ToysRLuv · 05/03/2015 19:34

Dermatologist or plastic surgeon.

CremeEggThief · 05/03/2015 19:38

Accountant or solicitor.

chocolatescones · 05/03/2015 19:40

A midwife, having just had a baby has made me realise I think I'd love it, big mortgage now so not much chance of that!

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 05/03/2015 19:42

I'd like to be an academic (without the job insecurity and the constant applying for funding shit). I'd like to be able to do cell and molecular biology based research work, but teach intellectual property law.

Since that clearly isn't going to happen I'll stick to being a patent attorney.

confusedandemployed · 05/03/2015 19:49

Vet. If I could go right back to the start and do science A levels.

I am looking into a graduate diploma in law as, just in the last year or so, I've discovered a bit of a métier. But if time and money were on my side, vet. Every time.

PrincessPilolevuofTONGA · 05/03/2015 19:51

Stone mason

LionsDontWeaveLentils · 05/03/2015 19:55

If I had money to burn then I would open a small art house cinema with a cafe that sold fruit crumbles. I would have to win the lottery though as it would never make any money.

I think being a pilot of small aircraft would be awesome. On the other hand I get rebel sick so maybe not such a good idea Confused

LionsDontWeaveLentils · 05/03/2015 19:56

Rebel sick!? I meant travel sick.

SaltySeaBird · 05/03/2015 19:56

Doctor maybe (I had the grades and did four science/maths A levels).

Or if I was 18 again without responsibility something like zoology / wildlife conservation.

I often think what if and really regret my degree and career choices. At 38 it's far too late though.

GertrudePerkins · 05/03/2015 19:57

i wish I'd done medicine, but when it came to choosing A-levels i wasn't keen on science, even though I had A grades in all the relevant GCSEs

i'd love to retrain but with 5 years at university at £9k/year just to get started on 7 odd years training, it's not going to happen

instead I have an airy fairy arts degree and oddly, a job that's mentioned on here as something people want to retrain as.

StockingFullOfCoal · 05/03/2015 19:58

Police. Specifically Cold Case Homicide.
