If you could retrain as anything what would it be?

I'm a PA and a bloody good one (if I do say so myself) - am on mat leave from being PA to a Director... there's some satisfaction in what I do (I manage some projects solo, etc.) but most of my role is frantic last-minute activity for someone else, in office 8am - 6pm and contactable until 10pm (US company)...
I'm just wondering if you could retrain as something else, what would it be??
Money being no object (ha, wouldn't that be nice?!)
I wish I'd taken my degree more seriously (not majored in art history! why???!)
I think I might have enjoyed graphic design... maybe even accountancy...

Law. Hands down.

I deal with a lot of law in my current job and I'm bloody better at it (in my narrow field) than 99% of the lawyers I know. It's so frustrating.

Although I love my job and know I have been a tiny part of a lot of people's journey to housing or health. I guess what I think it that I wish I had another life to try it. "Had we but world enough, and time..."

Something sciency, involving wearing a lab coat. It's occurred to me that I have spent a great deal of my working life trying to sell something over the phone. I hate sales, and I don't like calling strangers, so how the hell this happened is beyond me. For an introvert who would be quite happy working in a 'quiet' job, this would be perfect, and I love seeing how things work. I've changed greatly since I was at school, when I was much more into the arts. But I am too old, and unfortunately just not clever enough for science.

Absolutely anything to get me out of admin in the NHS. I die a little inside every time I walk into the office.

That. With bells on!

I have a masters in psychology and never managed to find a job in psychology (it is bloody hard - one interview I got down to the final 3 from an original 380 applicants!).

Kicking myself for turning down a place to study medicine at Imperial College after my undergrad but I developed ME and was too unwell to study such a demanding subject. So I chose Psychology instead.

I now work as a data analyst for the NHS and it's soul destroying.

I've thought about doing BSL interpretation, graphic design, health visiting, acting and lots of other things mentioned here. Seriously considering writing at the moment. Probably scientific/medical to begin with, but then perhaps doing some courses in creative writing and poetry eventually seeing as I was an A* student at school.

And for anyone thinking "it's too late" - My Dad retired from being an engineer and retrained as a teacher as a Granddad in his 50s! 10 years on he rakes it in on a consultancy basis and has no plans to retire despite now being well over pension age!

I feel so lucky as actually I am a doctor, which was my childhood dream.
I would quite like to do a bit hairdressing or floristry on the side though...

@cojmum and @napoleansnose you know there's funding for postgrad students now too? I'm studying part time MA at fairly ripe age whilst working and it's funded by student loan, plus I can still keep my job. After I get it... may try and go for PhD. The world is our lobster now they have loans for postgrad students :)

A vet. It's what I wanted to do when I was younger but wasn't good enough at science. With the benefit of age I now know the science teaching at my school had been appalling and in fact nobody did well at science. I was certainly bright enough.

I ended up in finance and can honestly say I have not genuinely enjoyed one day of my working life of 30 years. Big mistake in hindsight. Wish I'd pushed harder for my dream.

I did mental health nursing then psychotherapy which I loved. I also trained in hypnotherapy and herbology as hobbies, in all I have done 10 years at university and collage.

I would love to retrain as a blacksmith specialising in sword making.

Ive been an infant teacher for 38 years and often thought that I would love to have had a job in an office and wear proper grown up smart clothes to work everyday and have adult conversations all day! Other than that, I would have ioved to have been a librarian.

I did 2 years at Uni studying law then dropped out. I’d finish that if I could. I probably could TBF but it’s a big commitment with kids
