If you could retrain as anything what would it be?

I'm a PA and a bloody good one (if I do say so myself) - am on mat leave from being PA to a Director... there's some satisfaction in what I do (I manage some projects solo, etc.) but most of my role is frantic last-minute activity for someone else, in office 8am - 6pm and contactable until 10pm (US company)...
I'm just wondering if you could retrain as something else, what would it be??
Money being no object (ha, wouldn't that be nice?!)
I wish I'd taken my degree more seriously (not majored in art history! why???!)
I think I might have enjoyed graphic design... maybe even accountancy...

I'm also a paediatric nurse and I would like to be a physio or an OT. Making cakes would be nice with a sideline of being an acrobat.

I'd like a job with less responsibility, and paperwork and no nights.

A florist. I'd like to open my own wee shop and sell beautiful flowers. I'm currently a teacher.

leedy · 05/03/2015 10:58

Less half-arsed musician than I am now (I still play well enough, but didn't put in the ridiculous hours of practice in my youth to be really good), industrial designer.

llamallamaredpyjama · 05/03/2015 10:58

Or an astronaut but age is against me (like, honestly, that's all that stopping me Wink)

yoshipoppet · 05/03/2015 11:00

I'm currently working in education but I would retrain as a vet nurse.

Apatite1 · 05/03/2015 11:01

Ah, so many people wanting to be doctors! It's a fabulous career, well worth the hard work slightly biased as I work in a major London hospital

If I had to change, I'd like to be an architect. I'm thinking more Zaha Hadid than your typical extension building normal architect though Grin

DopeyDawg · 05/03/2015 11:02

Barrister - who could choose to work only with the downtrodden and vunerable.

Forensic pathologist / criminal mastermind.

Oh yes. Grin

Sommelier. Why did no one at school tell me there was a job where you eat fine food, drink fine wine, smoke fine cigars AND GET PAID FOR IT!

bananaramadramallama · 05/03/2015 11:05

Am watching this for ideas - I have just been medically discharged from my job of 20 years and am looking to start completely over in something new; I need inspiration!

Storm15 · 05/03/2015 11:05

Sommelier!!!! Love it! Yet to meet a female one too..... Wink

Civil engineer (I'm a librarian) but I have poor 3D awareness. I would love to be involved in something creative but substantial.

NakedFamilyFightClub · 05/03/2015 11:17

I read in an article yesterday that chicken sexers get paid about £40k a year and are in short supply, it seems like a good career move.

I think I'd like to retrain to become a plumber. The plumber I use is reliable, a tidy worker, always massively busy and his charges are high. It would work well around children if you could book in your own jobs and you'd always be doing something different and not be stuck at a desk.

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 05/03/2015 11:22

Some sort of therapist. Occupational or Physiotherapist.

Im quite enjoying my accountancy work Im doing so maybe that.

I did Sociology at Uni.

sliceofsoup · 05/03/2015 11:28

Artist/graphic designer/photographer.

Provencalroseparadox · 05/03/2015 11:29

I would like to be the person who chooses the music for the segments in Homes Under the Hammer

Jolay100 · 05/03/2015 11:36

I'm a medic. Pleased so many people would like to do what I do, or something like it. However if I could I'd do something far more creative, less stressful, fewer hours and no shift work.... Either a florist, or opening a Posh cafe glorifying breakfast/ brunch/lunch......

VivaLeBeaver · 05/03/2015 11:42

A bush pilot.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 05/03/2015 11:47

Probably a unicorn or a dragon. I haven't seen either about for a while so they must be in short supply.

I would also consider training as a cat.

Failing that, I would probably train in what I do, so that I would have the skills everyone else does, rather than falling into the job accidentally.

Libitina · 05/03/2015 11:51

I started my nurse training at 36 years old (and qualified at 39), so it's never too late to follow your dreams. Why regret something that can be changed?
Go for it.

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 05/03/2015 11:57

Either a sea-plane pilot in the South Pacific or a costume designer/maker.

netty7070 · 05/03/2015 12:00

Something outdoorsy like arborealist or dry stone waller.

thenextday · 05/03/2015 12:02

A counsellor working with teenagers

nannynannynannynanny · 05/03/2015 13:53

Provencal, that person is a genius!
