To be feel that some of the public have been mislead and a charity have lost out?

I just had a look at Dax's tale of New York on facebook. I now see the £13k they promised of the publics money to Ronald Mcdonald House isn't going there now. They raised the money by advising the public, funds were to cover medical bills, then they were going to give to the charity.

This wouldn't have been registered with the Charity Commission because you can't be a charity for one person, it has to be a cause, like 'feeding the homeless in London'. This is a Police job, I think, obtaining money by deception possibly.

Lyinginwait888 · 06/04/2015 19:29

I agree - it's fraud.

If they have nothing to hide then they should be transparent. Show the accounts, donate the excess.

LadySybilLikesSloeGin · 06/04/2015 19:33

Just takes one person to file a complaint.

Cantbelievethisishappening · 06/04/2015 19:41

Any comments (and this includes polite comments) enquiring about the donation are deleted. They have also added a link for people to donate direct to RMHC. The cynic in me would assume they have no intention of making a donation and by adding a link to the charity they have 'covered' themselves.

LadySybilLikesSloeGin · 06/04/2015 19:58

Nope, not covered themselves. From what I've read it appears shifty from the start so they would take a look into everything.

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 06/04/2015 20:25

as far as i remember reading, you can only complain about them 'being a charity' if you have actually given money to the cause?

kewtogetin · 06/04/2015 20:31

I believe someone has made a complaint Sybil but were basically told no crime had been committed. People donated willingly, originally because they believed Dax's birth was not covered by the insurance, when it came to light that insurance would foot the bill the 'cause' switched to the now fabled 'booby sucker' and 'daddy's panties'.....

LadySybilLikesSloeGin · 06/04/2015 20:35

Surely it's obtaining money by deception though? People think they donated to bring the child back to the UK but that wasn't the case.

These comments asking about the donation will be deleted. There will be no donation! Takes seconds to transfer cash online and yet 5 weeks after stating they would be making a donation there is still silence....why say it if you have no intention of donating???

Fingers crossed they don't shut the page down before then!

almosthuman · 06/04/2015 21:04

They just left a message that they will be making the donation next week we will just have to wait and see.

Micah · 06/04/2015 21:11

I'm not sure there's any case to answer though.

It's a typical knee jerk reaction many people have nowadays- any illness/cancer and its immediate raising money in case "treatment abroad" or whatever is needed. As in this case though, it's actually pretty rare that insurance or the nhs don't cover things.

I reckon there's loads of similar "causes" out there. People donate when a child is diagnosed. Then when the child doesn't need the treatment abroad it is entirely up to the family where the money goes. They don't have to donate it.

People knew they were donating to the family personally. As its not a charity there is no regulation or say in how or if the money is spent.

Which is why I never donate to personal causes.

I've just looked an 17 (ish) minutes ago this is what was posted...

LadySybilLikesSloeGin · 06/04/2015 22:17

13K less 5* hotel, new clothes... leaves £125

spudholes · 06/04/2015 22:19

Greedy lying scumbags. How should I go about reporting them to the police?I'll be contacting the media about it and hopefully it will draw some unwanted publicity and get the ball rolling.

Heels99 · 06/04/2015 22:23

Surely nobody actually donated money to these people?

Heels99 · 06/04/2015 22:25

And obviously they were never a registered charity and probably never claimed to be.

Justinefrischmann · 07/04/2015 07:37

As suspected the comment about £13k being a great amount to donate has been deleted quickly..!
