To be feel that some of the public have been mislead and a charity have lost out?

I just had a look at Dax's tale of New York on facebook. I now see the £13k they promised of the publics money to Ronald Mcdonald House isn't going there now. They raised the money by advising the public, funds were to cover medical bills, then they were going to give to the charity.

Just read some of the earlier comments on the FB group -

Thank you so much for all your help and your generosity! Mummy and Daddy are still very scared (and Daddy has run out of boxer shorts....he is a little smelly now!) With your help he can go buy some panties!

Hmm

I'm off to sleep now because Daddy's friend is off to the pub!!!! Today I've learnt about beer and Page 3. Life seems good 2 days in!! Night all

So Dickie is a Page 3 man. Enough said.

Oh come on! If he could afford a trip to NYC he could afford to buy some new boxers. Or use a laundromat surely?

ScamBuster1 · 06/03/2015 00:05

The promise to keep accurate records and that a substantial amount would be donated to RonaldMcDonald. Neither of which have yet to have happened.
I did some research on the back of all this, and I was astounded at the number of prem babies. That's a lot of families that could do with support and a bit of TLC, and £12k would enable RMcD to assist many.

I'm confused ... I thought Dick was Lee's boss? So why do I read in every article that Lee is a self employed PT?

Or have I got that completely wrong?

ifdaryldiesweriot · 06/03/2015 00:36

No he was far too busy counting stacks of money instead of washing his "panties"

Cariad007 · 06/03/2015 07:44

The image of that over-coiffed pecasaurus in "panties" is not one I need in my head first thing in the morning!

Chippednailvarnish · 06/03/2015 10:05

First class trip to NY...

saintlyjimjams · 06/03/2015 10:08

I think this one always had 'don't touch with a barge pole' written all over it didn't it?

expatinscotland · 06/03/2015 10:13

A fool and his money . . .

This all reminds me of the homeless couple who lived in an airport.

KittensOnAPlane · 06/03/2015 11:00

I think that Lee works on a self employed basis in Richards Gym? They did aparantly fly out first/business class.....?

and i think there was a mention of "BA(?) always upgrade pregnant women" when questioned (i'm scraping the memory barrel here.. so might be wrong)

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/03/2015 12:18

Interesting link, YouKilledLucyBeale - thanks for that Smile

RustyParker · 06/03/2015 12:21

Yes kittens, Tricky did try to claim that it is BA policy to automatically upgrade pregnant women Hmm

I don't recall Tricky stating after the insurance confirmed the bill will be covered that all the money will go direct to the couple. As I remember it, after confirmation of the insurance covering the bill it took him a further 2 days to update the fundraising page with this information and only then starting asking for donations to go direct to RMH - nothing about the couple buying white goods and furniture...

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/03/2015 12:39

I think that, except in exceptional circumstances, you buy your own white goods and furniture. Exceptional circumstances being either extreme need (ie. if they hadn't got a fridge or freezer and needed to store medication or expressed breast milk for tube feeds and couldn't afford to buy one themselves), or if they needed a specific, specialist piece of furniture or equipment, that they wouldn't normally have had to buy for their baby - ie a specialist buggy, for an older child with a disability - but not a cot, pram or rocking chair etc, as you would need those for any baby, and should budget for them.

However, given that, as I understand it, the dad works on a self-employed basis at Dicky's gym, as a personal trainer, I do accept that he would have been unable to earn money whilst he was in NY - and it was reasonable of him to want to stay with his wife and child, in the circumstances. So I don't think it would be unreasonable for some of the funds raised to be used to pay the essential bills back in the UK, to enable him to stay with his wife and child during a stressful and difficult time - but ONLY if it was made abundantly clear that that was what the money was going to be used for, so people could decide if they wanted to help them pay these bills.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 06/03/2015 12:52

they were only there for 7 weeks in the end though, so surely only needing 2 months worth of bills/rent covered? which cannot equal anywhere near £13k I'd say £3k maximum, bearing in mind rental prices in that area on right move are fairly low, and gas and electric wouldn't be much as the house empty, minimal food costs as food provided at the rmh, but still allowing for snacks at the hospital or for a meal out when they wanted to be away from the house and staff etc.

I'll be generous and say even if they gave a £5k donation that would look far better than this silence. The pictures on facebook and the internet of the rmh they stayed in, it looks amazing, not hostel like or grim at all, but quite plush. And so it should be as those staying aren't staying through choice or for a holiday.

I really feel for the parents going through a premature delivery and not having family to help in those first few weeks etc, but the behaviour with regards to the money is despicable.

Didn't know whether to post on this thread or create a new one, but since it's not really an update I thought I'd come back here. This appeared on the FB page on the 23rd though - no reply (or hounding) from anyone yet. Can't wait to see what they say...

KittensOnAPlane · 25/03/2015 13:18

give it 5 mins and it will be deleted

squoosh · 25/03/2015 13:59

Thieving little sneaks.

Chippednailvarnish · 25/03/2015 14:31

No surprise there then!

kewtogetin · 06/04/2015 18:38

Still no donation and I see any questions/comments asking about the intended donation have been deleted over the past few days....

Lyinginwait888 · 06/04/2015 19:08

That fb page is like something written in Orwell's 1984. Really, really odd.

kewtogetin · 06/04/2015 19:10

Tempted to post on the dad, lee johnston's page and ask him!!

Lyinginwait888 · 06/04/2015 19:13

"Linda Kiff" really really loves that family Hmm and has no other friends/interests etc on her profile. Now that is unusual.

PurpleSwift · 06/04/2015 19:26

I was looking earlier and someone posed 12 hours ago asking if a donation had been made yet and it had now been deleted...
