...on another thread someone said that anytime you lose any amount of weight you should always double it. If you hadn't been eating sensibly you would have probably put that much on!

I also like the Kellogs advert about, 'it is not what you lose, it is what you gain.'

Any other inspiring thoughts out there?

While you are trying to lose weight DONT think about it all the time. Fill your life with other things.

Dont make it your only focus.

MaidOfStars · 27/02/2015 23:29
  1. Get all four wisdom teeth out at the same time.
  2. Get orthodontic treatment.
  3. Get worms.

The first two saw me two stone below my very stable, very average weight. The last, I can't really vouch for.

Oh hang on...

  1. Develop a taste for crystal meth.

Seems to work on TV. Again, I can't personally vouch for it.

And more realistically...

  1. Become a fidget (a non-annoying one). Pace at bus stops, walk around when you take phone calls, that kind of thing.
BestZebbie · 27/02/2015 23:36

Yeah, similar to MaidOfStars

  • have your appendix or gallbladder out
  • in fact, keep your manky gallbladder in for a while first so that you are in pain if you eat any fat, this actually conditions you to not want it after a while, a bit like a shock collar
  • get a divorce
  • breastfeed
WorkingGirlJem · 27/02/2015 23:39

Have a cooked breakfast (grilled of course)
I lost over 4 stone that way as once I had eaten it I wasn't hungry all day so was able to just graze on fruit, veg, nuts etc til the evening when I would have a light meal.

HandMini · 27/02/2015 23:39

Do the 5:2 diet. Boring but true.

tigermoll · 27/02/2015 23:41

Heart break.

edballslongslowburn · 27/02/2015 23:41

5:2

No mid-week drinking

Couch to 5K. I've never got to the 5K bit, but this very achievable exercise works treat.

edballslongslowburn · 27/02/2015 23:42

Braces are good. The tooth, not the trouser kind.

fizzycolagurlie · 27/02/2015 23:42

Low fat and low sugar - smaller portions, nothing piggy
less alcohol (preferably none)
regular exercise

drops off.

BackforGood · 27/02/2015 23:44

Change habits, so exercise is part of your day (walking places rather than driving or getting the bus / using stairs not lifts / etc.) rather than having to be something you 'go out to do' later in the evening.

Do something in the evenings, rather than just sitting watching TV - it's when my hands are empty I start thinking about getting myself a snack or some chocolate.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/02/2015 23:48

I can't stand chocolate and lime so if I want to avoid chocolate, I have a sip of 7-UP or Roses lime cordial in sparkling water.
The thought that the two could mix in my body

I don't drink alcohol and I have had my gallbladder out.

My waist is currently the same as my boobs and hips measurement ( ie 10" more than it should be) I cannot fecking shift it Hmm

ThingummyJigg · 27/02/2015 23:49

Denial.
Don't have any mirrors in your house.
Buy clothes and cut out the size label and forget that they didn't say '12, slim fit'.
Only stand next to a) people much fatter than you b) chelsea tractors c) large buildings, so you look thin by comparison.
More denial. You can achieve this with wine. Which has no calories if you drink it without a meal. True fact. Sure as I'm browsing this gastric band catalogue.

HelenaDove · 27/02/2015 23:49

Best Zebbie dont be so bloody stupid I had gall bladder disease through losing weight too fast (7 stone in 7 months although it took over a year to lose the final 3) and i couldnt eat SOLID food without being taken to hospital and given morphine then doctors would come out and give me a morphine injection then eventually morphine pills to slip under my tongue. The pain was EXCRUITATING and i considered suicide. I had a woman with DC who had this tell me the pain was worse than childbirth . I wasnt eating fattening food id been dieting and had already lost seven stone i couldnt eat SOLIDS without it starting. The surgeon told me it was due to losing weight too fast and also that it was one of the worst cases he had ever seen. I used to roll around the bed screaming in pain wishing that i had not bothered losing the weight.

I NEVER want to go through a hell like it again.

Shenanagins · 27/02/2015 23:50

Portion control, stop snacking/grazing and routinely exercise.

OrionsAccessory · 27/02/2015 23:50

Remember there is more to life! If you're losing weight to prolong your life then make your life worth living. Don't spend every waking moment thinking about food and diets or moaning about it to your friends

arethereanyleftatall · 27/02/2015 23:50

I've lost a few kilos in the past few weeks by cutting out the things I know I can sustain. My morning latte is gone, and I have swapped toast for rice cakes in the morning.
I have been on diets, all different ones, forever, and I can never sustain them. So I thought id do stuff I can maintain.
I also got a fit bit about 18 months ago. I got so used to walking everywhere, - I now do 8miles per day walking before I even do any exercise. Fir example if I'm phoning my mum who I know I'll talk to for twenty minutes I go out for a walk and call rather than sitting down.

HelenaDove · 27/02/2015 23:52

Exactly Orions i said the same upthread.

vindscreenviper · 27/02/2015 23:53

Alpine-style ascents in the Himalayas.
Paragliding for a month in the Himalayas.
E-coli in Nepal.

All of the above leave you very thin, only one fucks your kidneys up Sad

SaucyJack · 27/02/2015 23:54

Don't breastfeed. Makes my metabolism drag like nobody's business.

Be in it for the long haul. Set realistic goals and allow yourself time to reach them. No one drops 10st overnight.

HelenaDove · 27/02/2015 23:54

Be prepared for it to be slower as you get older At 29 i lost 10 stone in 18 months.

At 40 41 3 and half stone in 18 months. Another stone to go and ive lost the small amount i regained.

MorrisZapp · 27/02/2015 23:56

Get PND and extreme anxiety. Actually, don't. You'll be too miserable to enjoy your emerging hipbones. Get pills that cheer you up again, put it all back on and a wee bit extra just for luck

But seriously, brush your teeth in the early evening. That's your way of saying no more snacks.

wartsnall · 28/02/2015 00:06

Be single!
I blame my hubby for my weight gain contentedness Hmm

vindscreenviper · 28/02/2015 00:13

Bah, my post is really stupid isn't it?
How many people are going to take up climbing and flying to lose weight? What I meant to say was that I could just eat and drink whatever then 2-3 times a year head off on a long climbing holiday and come home a lot thinner (but with scabby lips and frostbite) but no so much now with 2DC.
So perhaps find something that you love to do that burns up energy and leaves you less time to think about eating?

Easier said than done, I know.

Cariad007 · 28/02/2015 00:15

Have a hungry baby and breastfeed...

Nancy66 · 28/02/2015 00:19

Eat according to your hunger and not a timetable.

If you're not hungry in the morning, don't have breakfast. If you're not hungry in the evening don't have dinner.

Alternatively for quick fix: go to a festival. Eat noodles that have probably been reheated for the 20th time that day. Be glued to the lav for 3 days solid. Hey presto: 8 pounds down.
