...on another thread someone said that anytime you lose any amount of weight you should always double it. If you hadn't been eating sensibly you would have probably put that much on!

I also like the Kellogs advert about, 'it is not what you lose, it is what you gain.'

Any other inspiring thoughts out there?

Stop breastfeeding. I hoard weight like crazy when feeding. Then I get all thin for a bit. Then I get 'normal' again, which is a bit pudgy.

Not eating much in the evenings when DH is working helps me, it's like a mini 5/2

Hoppinggreen · 28/02/2015 09:06

Getting pregnant worked for me - first time I lost 2 stone, then put it on again by the time baby was 1 and then lost a stone 2nd time, which I put back on in about 6 months!!
Won't be doing it again though.

Oh yes, and dysentery and subsequent year old IBS flare up got me to a 24 inch waist for my wedding. Well timed amoebas, well timed.

  • cone back from China with God knows what bacteria from hell that will make you puke and poo for 2 weeks.
  • juggle being a commuting lone parent and trying to deal with your dad dying and dashing back and forth visiting him.
Peacocklady · 28/02/2015 09:12

Paul mckennas app I can make you thin. I lost a stone that had crept on effortlessly, with no guilt or restrictions.
To maintain, never avoid weighing yourself.

Take lepicol half an hour before a big meal.

The P something husk in it and all the water you drink after will fill you up and you will eat less as a result.

I lost five stone by restricting calories but had one day a week where I went out and ate something really crappy. That one free meal made it much easier to get through. Of course I restricted my calories enough during the week so that one meal didn't stall my weight loss.

Lift weights, aim to go heavy. Very heavy in time. You won't bulk up at all but you will burn much more calories while your body is repairing than you ever will with cardio. No little weights, build up to heavy weights. Fat will start to melt off as long as you are eating well of course. So many people wait until after they have lost weight to get the weights out and tone up. Do it while you are losing weight, will also help with any saggy skin and muscle tone while you are losing.

And remember, nothing tastes as good as feeling healthy feels.

Jealous of all these people who lost weight breastfeeding! I lost all my baby weight within 2 weeks. 6 months of EBFing a very hungry baby later I was 2 stone heavier. She sucked the life out of me and made me starving and exhausted so all I did was eat! I had to get energy from somewhere (3 hours sleep a night wasn't cutting it) so food it was.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 28/02/2015 09:22

Oh and lost a stone and a half of the 2 stone within 4 months of stopping breastfeeding Smile

MQv2 · 28/02/2015 09:26

Eat less, run more

SamiBE · 28/02/2015 09:35

Low carb and high protein x

thatsucks · 28/02/2015 09:38

Drink a very strong black coffee of a morning and the world will fall out of your bottom

TeddTess · 28/02/2015 09:44

Weights and yoga
Don't eat anything beige or white
Alcohol is a treat not for everyday
Water and herbal tea

Thistledew · 28/02/2015 09:49

Take up triathlon. Start training 6 hours a week. Decide to move up to Olympic distance triathlon. Train 9+ hours a week. Eat all types of food in moderation.

Worked well for me to lose 2 stone.

GoringBit · 28/02/2015 09:52

Cut down, don't cut out... I love latte, and would usually have one a day. I didn't like it with skimmed mail, so I cut down to one a week, usually Friday, as a reward for being good that week, and it made a big difference. If you like bread, rather than have a sandwich for lunch every day, have salad instead, but allow yourself a sandwich once a week. I liked the idea of earning my treats, and found it easier than giving things up altogether.

This thread demonstrates there isn't a one size fits all solution when it comes to weight loss.

Abra1d · 28/02/2015 10:02

5:2.
Magnesium and B6 if you are prône to hormonal water rétention.
No alcohol during the week.
Exercise.

I also found the chest infection I had for nearly five weeks this winter made me cough so much I lost weight and the accompanying sinusitis meant my sense of taste vanished too so that white wine tastes like vinegar. This is not fun but has helped and I have only been 6:1-ing rather than 5:1-ing.

OhMjh · 28/02/2015 10:02

Working in a cafe/bar, on my feet for 70 hours a week was great for keeping in shape.

Breastfeeding's worked wonders too, especially as I've never been crazy hungry from doing it. I returned to pre baby jeans in 12 days and became slimmer than I was pre pregnancy by 6 weeks!

Also another member of the ' porridge keeps me full for 10 minutes' club! I shouldn't need to eat a bloody second breakfast.

MozzchopsThirty · 28/02/2015 10:02

I wanted to get fit and tone up, I didn't really have much weight to lose.
A trainer at the gym advised me to completely change my eating habits and its worked really well.
I'm now 8st 3lbs, slimmer and more toned than I've been for years.

The clean eating/whole foods/ sensible thing has really worked for me.

Typical day is:
Salmon and poached egg on granary for breakfast
Snack on nuts
Soup and roll / pasta / leftovers for lunch
Stir fry / meat and veg / fish & salad for dinner

It's been effortless and I'm never hungry. I allow cheat meals but tbh I don't enjoy them so much any more

bonelope · 28/02/2015 10:02

No added sugar
No processed grains I.e. flour of any kind
No alcohol

As much veg, fish and pulses as you can stuff in your face
Eat nuts and seeds and good fats
Not too much meat

Do something physically active that you love as often as possible.
Don't worry about portions - you will never be hungry but the weight will fall off.

Rosalie43 · 28/02/2015 10:11

Breastfeeding
Divorce
Amoebic dysentery

Seriously, though: no alcohol/no big fat frothy coffees/walk everywhere/good sleep (means I don't crave junk)/don't eat once children are in bed/enjoy your food and don't turn it into a battleground.

Never dieted, and am in better shape than pre-children.

Rosalie43 · 28/02/2015 10:17

Oh, and don't keep any crisps / biscuits / chocolate in your house; kids don't need them, either..

KERALA1 · 28/02/2015 10:18

Love my grandmothers friends tip, eat one ryvita biscuit after every meal!

KERALA1 · 28/02/2015 10:20

I'm not sure I could survive on no alcohol or no frothy coffees. Will have to consider the divorce option in preference to that

OhMrGove · 28/02/2015 10:26

Heartbreak.

Cholera.

I went down to 6 stone with both. Heartily recommended.
