The dress is SO obviously not blue and black.

It was blue and black...then white and gold...now blue and black again.

alsmutko · 27/02/2015 23:32

It's been white & gold for me all the time. My friend this eve said it's always been blue & black for her. WTF is going on,

Longshorttall · 27/02/2015 23:38

It is quite clearly blue and black in every picture and confirmed as blue and black. So not sure how or why anyone sees anything else but you are all wrong.

APlaceInTheWinter · 28/02/2015 00:14

It was white and gold for me. Then I read the explanation from the scientists which basically said it depends whether your brain is adjusting for night or daylight (paraphrasing wildly). So I then shielded my eyes to block out external light and voila! It was blue and black.

toomuchtooold · 28/02/2015 06:28

APlace I did sort of the same, covered over the bits of the picture that weren't the dress, and suddenly it's blue/black. So weird.

spookyskeleton · 28/02/2015 06:34

All day yesterday it was definitely white and gold, very clear.

Last night, it suddenly became clearly blue and black.

The only difference is that I was at work during the day with bright lights above my computer. Last night I was at home after our lights are a bit dimmer.

It is very weird but fascinating at the same time Grin

SugarPlumTree · 28/02/2015 06:52

I had a right go at DD. She showed me the picture once and I saw blue and black. Then she showed me it again and it was white and gold. I hadn't been listening to what she was saying about people seeing it differently and insisted she was showing me different pics.

I have PMT, DH had to intervene.

Still firmly brown and blue here (after initial white and gold). I showed it to dh last night with his contacts out and he said black and blue (previously gold and white). He was sure I was messing with him and showing a different pic! Contacts in this morning and he sees brown and blue.

I have the pic on my phone so it's the same one each time!

Look at the original illusion and you will see why it works, messes with your mind though...

The Adelson Illusion

SugarPlumTree · 28/02/2015 09:17

Now my brain knows it can look white and gold or blue and black I see it first as white and gold then it changes as I look at it to blue and black. A bit freaky.

Cooroo · 28/02/2015 09:18

I did the Adelson thing recently, gave it 3 or 4 minutes and it definitely persisted for the next day. And usually white/gold, briefly blue/black and excitingly (or worryingly) this morning: black and white. and yes it is a colour image!

UngratefulMoo · 28/02/2015 09:21

At first it was clearly white and gold to me and I had no idea what people we banging on about. This morning I have mastered control of my perceptions and can see it as either white and gold or black and blue at will - ha!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 28/02/2015 09:27

It's blue and gold to me. Always. Doesn't change even slightly ever.

Cooroo · 28/02/2015 09:28

Shit, Adelson is something different. What is that persistence of vision thing where the effect can last for ages?

SomewhereIBelong · 28/02/2015 09:38

Cooroo - that is the McCollough effect

Cooroo · 28/02/2015 09:52

Thank you!

Jumblebee · 28/02/2015 10:06

I thought it was white and gold the first time I saw it. A colleague showed me the picture later that day and it was bloody blue and black! But every one of my colleagues said it was white and gold, and we were all looking at the same picture! Confused

It hurts my brain.

mypoorbottee · 28/02/2015 11:40

I saw it as white and gold and then later in the day after learning what the real colour it it was, I saw it as light blue and black.

The actual dress is black and blue, and the awful photo of it makes it look different, which is hardly earth-shattering news. That people are arguing about this is incredible.

I should post this on buzzfeed, it will blow peoples' minds:
