The dress is SO obviously not blue and black.

OP posts:
CasperGutman · 27/02/2015 21:30

At lunchtime in work, in a brightly lit office with sunlight streaming through the window, it was definitely blue and black.

Now I look again, sitting in a dimly-lit room with candles, it's white and gold.

Both times, I tried to see the other option and just couldn't believe it was possible!

phlebasconsidered · 27/02/2015 21:31

It's all down to eyes and semantics of colour. As my Year 6 class asked me the other day: "How do I know what you see as red is what I see as red?" What I see as the colour "red" is what my eyes sees, but i've learnt it's red according to what my mum's / many other people's eyes see as red in the spectrum. And the spectrum is large.

Oh bugger it. It's probably photoshop.

debbriana · 27/02/2015 21:31

Nope it's blue grey with goldish brown

Roseformeplease · 27/02/2015 21:33

AmI wrong to be weirdly proud that this was started by my colleague's niece? Amazing how far it has spread.

CalamitouslyWrong · 27/02/2015 21:43

It was very clearly blue and black earlier. Then I looked at the wired link and now it's white and gold.

ChristyMooreRocks · 27/02/2015 21:46

I'm freaked out now - it was totally white and gold earlier today, me and DH were arguing about it. And then I saw it on telly this evening, and it must have been a different light or something because I could totally see it was blue and black.

And now I CANNOT find a white and gold dress anywhere on the Internet, they are all quite obviously blue and black!

ChristyMooreRocks · 27/02/2015 21:47

Oh, so basically the total opposite to calamitously Confused

SquinkiesRule · 27/02/2015 21:49

I say blue and gold.

CalamitouslyWrong · 27/02/2015 21:54

Now that I've stopped looking at the wired link it's blue and black and my brain cannot fathom how I thought it might have been white and gold. I can see how I might have thought it was blue and brown, but no idea where the white came from. I clearly have no colour constancy whatsoever!

letsgotothebeach · 27/02/2015 21:56

Was wondering what all us white and golds would see if we actually saw the dress on someone in real life, standing in the sunshine!!

CalamitouslyWrong · 27/02/2015 21:58

I think it's the background to the photograph that causes the illusion that it's white and gold. And the fact that the photo is overexposed. Because a proper photo of the actual dress is unmistakably blue and black.

Imscarlet · 27/02/2015 22:01

I am just waiting for something to come out about the personality of people who see blue/black vs white /gold.

Fuckup · 27/02/2015 22:02

I see both too Shock. sometimes gold &white, sometimes blue & black. Usually the smaller the picture the more gold &white.

Quietattheback · 27/02/2015 22:04

Intitially I saw it as bluish white and gold but then I read the text and scrolled back up it was blue and black - freaky!

Milllli · 27/02/2015 22:04

www.romanoriginals.co.uk/invt/70931?colour=Royal

This is a link to the dress itself. It comes in many colours.

Romeyroo · 27/02/2015 22:08

I see it white and gold, do not get blue and black at all

Milllli · 27/02/2015 22:09

I see blue and brown but if I push my laptop top towards me it turns white and then when I push my laptop top away from me it goes blue again.

CalamitouslyWrong · 27/02/2015 22:12

It's comes in 4 colours, but the lace is always black. Never gold.

I can only see white and gold in the links where they've put white and gold dresses next to the photo. Or I could earlier, but now they all look blue and black. The dress on its own always looks blue and black.

On an unrelated note, the dress is far nicer without the bolero.

Milllli · 27/02/2015 22:17

I have put a link to the four dresses up above but when I look at the fb link I still see gold not black.

GraceGrape · 27/02/2015 22:19

Same as Milllli. I've seen it white and gold in every picture, but if I tilt my laptop screen away from me, it turns to blue and black.

piggychops · 27/02/2015 22:22

Arghhhh!!! It was definitely whit and gold, then a few minutes later when I looked again it was blue and black!!!
DS said it changed as he was looking at it it.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 27/02/2015 22:26

DH sees the picture as white and gold but I see blue and black as does my 4 yr old. I would think he was being contrary except I have looked at a picture I had already seen as blue and black and suddenly it looked clearly white and gold. Not light blue, bright white. And a minute later back to blue and black.

SlaggyIsland · 27/02/2015 22:28

It's changed colour! Spent all day seeing it as white and gold, looked at the same picture and it's now blue and black.
This has freaked me out somewhat.

slightlyconfused85 · 27/02/2015 22:36

I spent the morning seeing blue and black, later in the day white and gold and now blue and black again. I don't know why I care about this but I do!!

SlaggyIsland · 27/02/2015 22:39

I know I'm fascinated by it!
