Sitting here thinking about mine when I should be working and thought I would throw it out to the MN masses. Grin

After much deliberation, it is a tie for me between:

'Jonnys in the Basement mixing up the medicine, I'm on the pavement thinking 'bout the government' - Dylan

And

'Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty'

Anything that pulls you up? Makes you laugh? Breaks your heart? Has great memories?

'You know there ain't no devil, that's just God when he's drunk' has to be up there, but Tom Waits is a fucking genius lyricist so probably pretty much everything else he's ever written as well.

All the Lyrics to May You Never - John Martyn is another one who gets me every time.

Oh jeez, now I've started thinking about this I am going to have no room in my brain for anything else until next year...!

christmashope · 24/02/2015 16:03

It's late in the evening she's wondering what clothes to wear, she puts on her make up and brushes her long blond hair - Eric Clapton wonderful tonight, I love it

cashewnutty · 24/02/2015 16:07

..the more I see - the more I know
The more I know - the less I understand.

Paul Weller: Changing Man

Very profound!

IsadoraQuagmire · 24/02/2015 16:09

"His fist is big, but my gun's bigger. He'll find out when I pull the trigger!"
Miranda Lambert; Gunpowder And Lead Grin

VulvaVoom · 24/02/2015 16:13

tumbling, soaring, freewheeling, through an endless diamond sky - A whole new world Blush

but also: There is no point saying this again, there is no point saying this again, I forgive you, I forgive you, always I do forgive you - You have killed me, Morrissey

LineRunner · 24/02/2015 16:14

Sometimes
The truth is harder than the pain inside

RufusTheReindeer · 24/02/2015 16:17

"The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had"

There are probably loads of song lines I love but that's the one that resonates most with me

TranquilityofSolitude · 24/02/2015 16:18

Another piece of Paul Weller genius...

"Two lovers missing the tranquility of solitude"

Branleuse · 24/02/2015 16:19

im now singing subterranean homesick blues!! Love that song.

God, so many of dylans lyrics would be in there

Sallystyle · 24/02/2015 16:25

'A mole, living in a hole'

No.. i'm kidding.

'You hurt yourself, you hurt your lover then you discover, what you thought was freedom was just greed'

And from the same song:

You wanted to get somewhere so badly
You had to loose yourself along the way
You change a name but that's okay... it's necessary
And what you leave behind you don't miss anyway

U2- Gone. That song has a lot of meaning to me. Not the best written lyrics but for me it means a lot.

camembertlover · 24/02/2015 16:27

Purplehonesty · 24/02/2015 16:29

Glen Campbell. "And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time".

I find it hugely emotive.

maudpringles · 24/02/2015 16:42

Totally agree honeydragon, one of the greatest lines ever written.

Cocolepew · 24/02/2015 16:44

Mines the same as Honeydragons, I just swoon at it.

MorrisZapp · 24/02/2015 16:47

Also Glen Campbell...

'I clean my gun, and dream of Galveston'

Wanking, I think he means?

fizzycolagurlie · 24/02/2015 16:48

From A case of you by Joni Mitchell:

Oh you are in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter
And so sweet oh
I could drink a case of you darling and I would
Still be on my feet
Oh I would still be on my feet

bialystockandbloom · 24/02/2015 16:51

Another Bob Dylan one:
I ain't saying you treated me unkind,
You could have done better, but, I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time,
don't think twice, it's alright

OP I love the Just (Dub??) Be Good To Me one - so 1990! Grin

ItsAliveItsElectric · 24/02/2015 16:57

"The stars are shining like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun" (Read my Mind, The Killers)

albertcamus · 24/02/2015 17:00

'May you build a ladder to the stars, and climb on every rung' Bob Dylan, Forever Young

'Have a bunch of kids who call me Pa, that must be what it's all about' Bob Dylan, Sign on the window

'Cos every junkie's like the setting sun' Neil Young The Needle and the damage done

'This bullshit is bullshit' Paul Weller Beat Surrender

'Stand up to the blow that Fate has struck upon you
Make the most of all you still have coming to you' Genesis Undertow

goindowntoyasgursfarm · 24/02/2015 17:04

MorrisZapp, on phone so can't check the lyrics butI'm pretty sure Galveston is a song about the US Civil War. Not wanking! ! Grin

Honeydragon · 24/02/2015 17:05

Oh and a one line, from Only Living Boy in New York

"I get all the news I need from the weather report"

goindowntoyasgursfarm · 24/02/2015 17:05

"And then I'll know that all I've learned my kid assumes,
And all my deepest worries must be his cartoons."

Younger Generation - Lovin Spoonful. V evocative song about becoming a parent.
