Sitting here thinking about mine when I should be working and thought I would throw it out to the MN masses. Grin

After much deliberation, it is a tie for me between:

'Jonnys in the Basement mixing up the medicine, I'm on the pavement thinking 'bout the government' - Dylan

And

'Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty'

Anything that pulls you up? Makes you laugh? Breaks your heart? Has great memories?

I was looking for a job and then I found a job
And heaven knows I'm miserable now (Smiths)

Used to listen to this in earphones on way to work when I had a really dreary office job in my early 20s. Used to really cheer me up.

shggg245 · 24/02/2015 20:08

'I smoke cos I'm hoping for an early death and I need to cling to something' what she said - The Smiths.

'Hot summers day - sticky back tarmac' That's entertainment - the jam.

You're not from San Francisco you're from Rotherham - attic monkeys

ecofreckle · 24/02/2015 20:10

dranksangria we should hook up! I've a feeling we'd like a natter Smile That the the song is the song our wedding invite was set to and the tune we walked into dinner to. I bloody love it and it reminds me of meeting my dh moons ago. Also, that Neil Young song is so beautiful. Like some smells it takes me back to a very specific place and time full of carefree and lovely things. Thank you for putting it back in my head Thanks

DextersMistress · 24/02/2015 20:10

I love you from the bottom of my pencil case

shggg245 · 24/02/2015 20:11

Morrissey may be a bit of a knob but prob the best lyricist of our age! Totally loved The Smiths.

tumshieheid · 24/02/2015 20:14

"And at once I knew I was not magnificent, strayed above the highway aisle, jagged vacance thick with ice, I could see for miles, miles, miles" Bon Iver - Holocene

"No, I dealt with this years ago, I took a hammer to every memento, but image on image like beads on a rosary pull through my head as the music takes hold, and the sickener hits, I can work til I break, but I love the bones of you that I will never escape" Elbow - Bones of You

"Because we need each other, we believe in one another and I know we're going to uncover what's sleeping in our soul" Oasis - Acquiesce

theshield · 24/02/2015 20:17

Was that somebody screaming
It wasn't me for sure
I lift my head up from uneasy pillows
Put my feet on the floor
Cut my wrist on a bad thought
And head for the door

A-Ha - Scoundrel Days

BreacaBoudica · 24/02/2015 20:17

I won't back down
No, I won't back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won't back down

Thank you Tom Petty! Just what you need when facing a difficult situation on a point of principle.

wigglesrock · 24/02/2015 20:23

Sometimes I could sell my soul just to sit and watch you smoke - Del Amitri (Here and Now)

I wanna rock your gypsy soul - Van Morrison (Into the Mystic)

molyholy · 24/02/2015 20:26

Not sure why as I'm not a stereophonics fan but love the lyric
'wake up call, coffee and juice'
also the boxer by simon and garfunkel.
'Asking obly workmens wages I go looking for a job, but I get no offers. Just a come on from the whores on 7th avenue.
I do declare there were times I was so lonesome, that I took some comfort there'
that song brings a tear to my eye.

molyholy · 24/02/2015 20:27

curlyweasel · 24/02/2015 20:30

Death wears a big hat
'Cause he's a big bloke

Or

In chapter one, we didn't really get along
Chapter two, I think I fell in love with you
You said you'd stand by me in the middle of chapter three
But you were up to your old tricks
In chapters four, five and six

Elvis Costello - genius

JustStirItUna · 24/02/2015 20:33

How it feels to live your life
With no meaning or control

Love this thread!

itsnotmeitsyou1 · 24/02/2015 20:36

Molyholy, I love the 'Phonics, Dakota was a teen favourite of mine. Of course also love 'As long as we beat the English', which a great song to play this time of year Grin.

FilthyPout · 24/02/2015 20:37

I hang my coat up in the first bar
There is no peace that I've found so far
The laughter penetrates my silence
As drunken men find flaws in science
Their words mostly noises
Ghosts with just voices
Your words in my memory
Are like music to me

(Snow Patrol - Set the fire to the third bar)

Love this entire song really!

NormaSnickers · 24/02/2015 20:41

From Arctic Monkeys 'Love Is A Laserquest'

"I've tried to ask you this in some daydreams that I've had
But you're always busy being make believe"

JustStirItUna · 24/02/2015 20:41

Ujjayi - I hate that they cut that bit off the song whenever it's played on the radio. As a fellow 'common person' I love it

NormaSnickers · 24/02/2015 20:43

Oh, just thought of another favourite one, from Pulp's 'Underwear'

"If fashion is your trade, then when you're naked I guess you must be unemployed"

Littlegiraffe · 24/02/2015 20:43

I'm with you ourglass
From John Denver's Annie's Song:

You fill up my senses
Like a night in the forest
Like the mountains in spring time
Like a walk in the rain.
Like a storm in the desert
Like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses
Come fill me again.

This song is very special to me ??

Joshuajosephspork · 24/02/2015 20:44

Theirs is a land of hope and glory
Mine is the green field and the factory floor
Theirs are the skies all dark with bombers
And mine is the peace we knew between the wars

and

Old lies and fireflies
Carve Angels on your eyes and all is undone

Ujjayi · 24/02/2015 20:46

JustStirItUna - me too. As a student who felt a bit of an outsider at uni those were always the lines I sang loudest!

CPtart · 24/02/2015 20:46

"I am human and I need to be loved, just like everybody else does."
The Smiths

"Forget your heart it's your bank I wanna break, it's just your money I'm after baby."
