Sitting here thinking about mine when I should be working and thought I would throw it out to the MN masses. Grin

After much deliberation, it is a tie for me between:

'Jonnys in the Basement mixing up the medicine, I'm on the pavement thinking 'bout the government' - Dylan

And

'Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty'

Anything that pulls you up? Makes you laugh? Breaks your heart? Has great memories?

My eyes are getting heavier and whether you're asleep or awake
Is a mystery, would a kiss be too much to ask?
When you fit me
Like Sunday's frozen pitch fits the Thermos flask.

Who's that girl there?
I wonder what went wrong so that she had to roam the streets
She don't do major credit cards, I doubt she does receipts

You used to get it in your fishnets, now you only get it in your nightdress.
Discarded all the naughty nights for niceness.
Landed in a very common crisis.

All Arctic Monkeys

FuzzyWizard · 24/02/2015 18:57

*we kiss

misspamela · 24/02/2015 18:59

My absolute favourite song line ever is David Bowie, Kooks, "and if the homework gets us down, then we'll throw it on the fire and take the car down town." Makes me smile.

The whole of National Express by the Divine Comedy.

And the 'fried chicken' bit at the end of One Vision by Queen. Grin

stevienickstophat · 24/02/2015 19:00

From Lippy Kids by Elbow

One long June
I came down from the trees
And kerbstone cool
You were a freshly painted angel
Walking on walls
Stealing booze and hour-long hungry kisses

Sums up those teenage years beautifully.

whattodoowiththeleftoverturkey · 24/02/2015 19:01

Oh shit.

I came on here to post 'wake me up before you go go'. Because it makes me want to dance.

But you've all posted far cooler lines Blush

Judydreamsofhorses · 24/02/2015 19:02

"I dreamt about you last night, and fell out of bed twice" - Reel Around The Fountain by The Smiths

"I'm empty and aching and I don't know why" - America by Simon and Garfunkel

FreudiansSlipper · 24/02/2015 19:03

Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plan - Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy) by John Lennon

often quoted but oh how true

This ache in my chest, 'cause my day is done now
The dark covers me and I cannot run now - Wake up Along by Amy Winehouse

when you are heartbroken and desperately missing someone this is the line you absolutely get

I said, I hate me, myself and I
Said I hate myself and I want to die - Hate by Cat Power

very honest song about her time in rehab

Thereshegoesagain · 24/02/2015 19:04

You wanted to dance, so I asked you to dance, but fear is in your soul. Some people call it a one night stand, but we can call it paradise. - Duran Duran.
I was acting out this lyric a million years ago when I was 17/18 years old.
Makes my heart flutter to this day.

misspamela · 24/02/2015 19:05

oops

Phoenixfrights · 24/02/2015 19:06

Fifth /sixth/seventh Wichita Lineman. A fabulous song. Not generally a Mozza fan but who can't not smile at "This is the coastal town/ That they forgot to knock down/Armageddon, come armageddon/ Come armageddon, come". .

AgentCooper · 24/02/2015 19:07

YY to the posters who said Wichita Lineman - that line is one of the most beautiful lines ever written.

'I loved you all my life, and that's how I want to end it
The summer's almost gone and the winter's tuning up
Now the summer's gone, but a lot goes on forever
And I can forget, I can't forget
I can't forget but I don remember what'

Leonard Cohen, 'I Can't Forget'

salthill · 24/02/2015 19:09

"I'd rather live in his world than live without him in mine"
From "Midnight train to Georgia" Gladys Knight.

shellsocks · 24/02/2015 19:10

YY to Wichita Lineman, love that song and that line especially.

This has to be one of the most beautiful lines written about love though:

They say losing love is like a window in your heart, everybody sees your blown apart. Everybody feels the wind blow.

Although 'I need excitement and I need it bad' has gotta be up there for tapping into a feeling!
P

Aliiiii · 24/02/2015 19:12

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I'll often stop and think about them
I'm my life I love you more

In my life-the Beatles
Love it so much had it tattooed on my thigh!

FurryTurnip · 24/02/2015 19:16

judydreamsofhorses agree that's the greatest line ever from Simon & Garfunkel, makes me cry every time.

fattymcfatfat · 24/02/2015 19:17

I cant get you outta my head,
god knows ive tried but I just cant forget

Cant get you outta my head, Theory of a deadman (the acoustic version is amazing aswell)

whattheseithakasmean · 24/02/2015 19:19

'Did you exchange, a walk on part in the war, for a lead role in a cage?'
Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here. Very special albumn to me & that lyric has kept me plugging away sometimes instead of giving up.

'It's so easy to laugh, its so easy to hate; it takes strength to be gentle and kind' - a lyric to live your life by.

Someone quoted 'She' earlier, another very special song for me

'She may be the love that cannot hope to last
May come to me from shadows of the past
That I'll remember till the day I die

She may be the reason I survive
The why and wherefore I'm alive
The one I'll care for through the rough and ready years
Me I'll take her laughter and her tears
And make them all my souvenirs
For where she goes I've got to be
The meaning of my life is she'

I kept living for my daughter when my son died & those lyrics always make me cry.

Nanny0gg · 24/02/2015 19:20

Can you imagine us years from today?
Sharing a park bench quietly
How terribly strange to be seventy

Old friends, memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fears...

Paul Simon.

And I loved this before I became older.

imonaplane · 24/02/2015 19:21

"Marry me girl be my fairy to the world
Be my very own constellation" and " Buy me a star on the boulevard"

Californication - RHCP

"She wanted to test her husband.
She knew exactly what to do:
A pseudonym to fool him.
She couldn't have made a worse move.

She sent him scented letters,
And he received them with a strange delight.
Just like his wife
But how she was before the tears,
And how she was before the years flew by,
And how she was when she was beautiful.
She signed the letter"

Baboushka - Kate Bush ( Actually, anything by Kate!)

"Sleeping on an unmade bed"

Four Seasons in one day - Crowded House

"For what I’ve done
I start again
And whatever pain may come
Today this ends
I’m forgiving what I’ve done!"

What I've done - Linkin Park

Sorry - I could go on for hours!

Raahh · 24/02/2015 19:26

I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them but they were only satellites
Is it wrong to wish on space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care

Billy Bragg. Whole song is excellent. The Kirsty McColl version is brilliant.

imonaplane · 24/02/2015 19:26

And I wish there was a like button as there are so many great lyrics already mentioned!

Bambambini · 24/02/2015 19:30

Each of these
My three babies
I will carry with me
For myself
I ask no one else will be
Mother to these three
And of course
I'm like a wild horse
But there's no other way I could be
Water and feed
Are not tools that I need
For the thing that I've chosen to be

In my soul
My blood and my bones
I have wrapped your cold bodies around me
The face on you
The smell of you
Will always be with me

Each of these
My three babies
I was not willing to leave
Though I tried
I blasphemed and denied
I know they will be returned to me
Each of these
My babies
Have brought you closer to me
No longer mad like a horse
I'm still wild but not lost
From the thing that I've chosen to be

And it's 'cause you've thrilled me
Silenced me
Stilled me
Proved things I never believed
The face on you
The smell of you
Will always be with me

MrsMonkeyBear · 24/02/2015 19:30

Ooooh, this one too

Coheed and Cambria - Pearl of the Stars

I'd give you everything
If only I'd have known you'd take it
But you don't, cause you're you
That's why I'll always love you
My Pearl of the stars

And this

Frank Turner - The Way I Tend to Be

But then I remember you,
And the way you shine like truth in all you do.
And if you remembered me,
You could save me from the way I tend to be.
