To feel like shoving my sister's lasagne up her behind!

My sister made a freezable lasagne for my ds's birthday party but unfortunately we had to cancel the party twice due to DS being poorly. Now my sister has said that as we aren't having a party now she wants it back.

Is it me or is this a bit mean? I know it cost her a bit to make but hopefully not that much and we did originally offer to cover the cost of the ingredients but she refused. If the situation was reversed I would feel so sorry for her having to cancel a child's birthday party I wouldn't even think to ask for something back that I had made!! Especially with family - but am I expecting too much?!

Bart - I think coupled with the lack of feeling for OP's DS's illness the lasagne issue grates more on OP.

It depends with me if I'd eaten it... I mean you can't really give back a half eaten lasagne (or other dish) can you?!

Soup dragon I changed details to stop me being identified in case she'd reads Mumsnet but nice to know I have a stalker! Grin

I think it was ok to ask for it back. She cooked it for the party and then there was no party. If I had been you I would have offered it back to her. It wouldn't have crossed my mind to keep it.

If she was rude when she asked for it back then that's a seperate matter as is the fact that she didn't ask after your DS. It doesn't work that you get to keep it because she was rude.

TrollsTrollsEverywhere · 23/02/2015 14:40

Soup I change the details of my kids all the time too. I thought it was standard MN practice.

So, you think the fact that you changed to having a DS means she'll think "oh, that must be another person who had to cancel a party and another sister who wants her lasagne back. It can't be me as Lottie has a daughter, not a son". You need to brush up on your anonymity skills!!

I'm not a stalker, I was simply surprised to see this wasn't your first post and the DD part leapt out.

Lottie5 · 23/02/2015 14:45

The DS bit wasn't the only bit I changed - why do you assume it was?

Not on a day to day basis, no. Most people keep the details and change user names for anything sensitive. IME anyway.

SoupDragon · 23/02/2015 14:47

Well, unless the whole story is a complete fabrication, it will still be bloody obvious if your "sister" reads it.

Anyway, I think you are over reacting about the whole stupid thing.

Zucker · 23/02/2015 14:48

I'm a cow disclaimer so I would defrost it enough so I could slip it from the dish and into multiple disposable takeaway containers and give it back to her.

Lottie5 · 23/02/2015 14:48

Think you're taking it all a bit too seriously Soup.

Lottie5 · 23/02/2015 14:50

The story is not a fabrication but thank you for making me realise that my sister is not the weirdest person in the world. Grin

You should return it in 50 mini tupperware pots, because you needed your dish back to make a lasagne. Or in 200 tiny squares in ice cube trays.

FishCalledWonder · 23/02/2015 14:54

Like the idea of splitting it into dozens of tupperware pots before returning. Def do that.

LittleBairn · 23/02/2015 14:56

I would take it out the freezer, once it's defrosted turf it out into a disposable foil container and calmer her to pick it up.
Then refuse all offers of help for future parties.

Branleuse · 23/02/2015 14:58

tell her that she can have it back, but you have licked it

HowCanIMissYouIfYouWontGoAway · 23/02/2015 15:34

cover it with extra extra extra hot tabasco or chilli sauce and give it back to her.

SuperFlyHigh · 23/02/2015 15:37

House - excellent - OP please do this but in ice trays (why on earth would you shell out on or have 50 mini tupperware pots but you may have that many....)!

Behindthepaintedgarden · 23/02/2015 15:48

Are you the sister Soupdragon?

Jux · 23/02/2015 16:49

What does it matter, Soupdragon? Was it really worth searching out OP's other posts and then questioning her? Surely, it's her look-out whether she's identifiable on here or not, and as you say, it's only a lasagne, is it worth hinting at troll over this?

lightgreenglass · 23/02/2015 16:55

I would give it back to her as if it was my sister I couldn't be arsed it's the type of thing she would do.

But I would make passive aggressive remarks about it for the rest of her life and tell the rest of the family so they know she's bonkers Grin.

BuzzardBird · 23/02/2015 17:02

She lost a filling in it OP and needed to be present when it is eaten so that she can get it back.

ThingummyJigg · 23/02/2015 17:04

OP was it soup, not lasagne.....?

I change identifying details on here all the time and I think a lot of people do, but wouldn't like to admit it. Mostly for reasons of being flamed. But if it helps with anonymity and the details aren't important, then I see no harm, personally.

My vote is for larsagne.

Or bung her £20 to cover the cost of ingredients, her time and any other expenses. If she says it's not enough, say you've deducted something for the rental of your lasagne dish.

Behindthepaintedgarden · 23/02/2015 17:10

I often change minor details in case someone I know might read my post and wonder if it's me.

I cannot stand people who rake back through other posters' previous posts to try and find incriminating 'evidence' or something they can throw nastily in their face. I find it creepy and unpleasant behaviour.

OP, as well as charging your sister for the rental of the dish, you could also charge her for board and lodgings for the lasagne. She'll end up owing you money in no time Grin

BuzzardBird · 23/02/2015 17:21

It was a chilli I reckon.
