to think they should charge the Syria girls

If they are indeed with terrorists in Syria then when a small chink of sense comes back to them and they want to come home, I hope they will be charged.

Your views still scare me more than any IS terrorist ever could

How utterly ridiculous and insulting to all the families who have watched their families being murdered.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/02/2015 20:02

The last thing we need is to open a way for IS to send teenage 'sleepers' here, if they conclude anything from this incident suggests there is a category of person who will not be subject to UK's usual measures

A very valid point ... Hmm

ghostyslovesheep · 23/02/2015 20:03

Isis are unlikely to harm me - closed mindedness has more chance of doing so - so I agree with Limited :)

adsy · 23/02/2015 20:11

Thank you joyfull
I'm disgusted on behalf of all those people being tortured and killed by ISIS that apparently I'm a worse threat. revolting attitude.
I'm not closed minded and my opinions are unlikely to cause you or your children physical or mental torture.

Good for you. I wonder if you will still be smiling if any of your family or friends ever get caught up in one of the predicted attacks. Because attacks don't happen in England do they? Or maybe you don't live near any major cities that why your so sure.

ghostyslovesheep · 23/02/2015 20:13

you are a very entertaining pair

Joyfulldeathsquad · 23/02/2015 20:17

I think that some posters are so intent on 'understanding' and sympathising they are actually the closed minded posters they accuse others off. A bit like the emperors new clothes.

Saying ISIS are not a threat just shows how far their need to be seen as liberal is. Fair play. But you can't have a discussion/debate with some one that refuses to see what is actually happening. Maybe it's nice in La La land.

DoraGora · 23/02/2015 20:20

Saying ISIS is unlikely to harm me, may very well be statistically true. It depends where you live.

ghostyslovesheep · 23/02/2015 20:23

I'm not closed minded - I'm just not prone to bouts of hysteria either

woodhill · 23/02/2015 20:24

totally agree Adsy. Isis arent exactly going to listen to reason or be touchy feely.

WannaBe · 23/02/2015 20:24

loiner45 on the guardian article linked to above it's been reported that one of the girls had joined over 700 pro isis sites.

I think it's very easy to think that isis are unable to harm us here in the UK, on the basis of what they have done before now. I remember having a conversation with someone recently who was expressing the fear that isis could come over here and start ordering people out of their houses etc etc as has been happening in iraq etc. I pointed out that this notion in itself was ridiculous because one of the reasons why isis are so successful in driving out Christians in iraq/syria is because of the infrastructure of the countries which is just still not on a par with ours.

But if it comes to other acts of terrorism, suicide bombings, shootings such as the ones in Paris, hostage situations I think it's fair to say that we are all fair game. There will almost certainly be future acts of terrorism in the UK, and they will certainly be driven by Jihadist organisations, be that isis or another. We are lucky. we have strong inteligence in this country, but it is not fool proof.

I think it was Jerry Adams who said that the inteligence have to be lucky every day. A terrorist only has to get lucky once.

EveDallas · 23/02/2015 20:26

What a fucking disgusting thread. At least it's been good for shitlist updates.

These are 3 girls who so far could a) still be in Turkey b) could have gone over for decent (if misguided) reasons and c) have raised no intelligence/security red flags.

They could come back tomorrow - and if they do the only crime they have committed is the passport usage - and that's only one of them.

How about waiting until some facts actually come out to lynch them?

limitedperiodonly · 23/02/2015 20:26

you are definitely not unhinged Limited love

But I am Ghosty. I am

And so are you because we want to let children who haven't done anything come back into this country and infect fellow teens with their nonsense without taking them into custody and asking them or their parents and friends any questions at all and crawling all over their internet dealings.

Because the security services are stupid like that and they won't think of doing it.

Thank God for the people on Mumsnet who keep the streets safe for decent people.

Except the ones in the ghetto.

adsy · 23/02/2015 20:28

Yep, as long as they're not likely to hurt you, eh? shame about all the poor sods in Syria etc. but as long as you know there's only a small chance of being killed by them we should just let people get on with supporting them. human rights, innit.

ghostyslovesheep · 23/02/2015 20:31

well I live in lala land so it's all fluffy unicorns and marshmallow kittens here

Farahilda · 23/02/2015 20:32

These girls may or may not have been 'self starters', but they can hardly have arranged to vanish so rapidly in Turkey without assistance.

I expect everything to do with them is now being studied carefully by the relevant authorities.

And what those authorities do about it will also be being studied carefully by the terrorists, who will squirrel the information away for use in the future - either their propaganda war or their actual attacks.

And of course IS (organised, franchised or self-starter) is not the only threat to UK. Also in the news today is the emergence of an Al Shabab video containing threats against London shopping malls and Oxford Street.

As the courts ruled Control Orders illegal, what do we do about those known to have been in touch with terrorist organisations? Or returing from places under hostile control after learning and being indoctrinated into goodness only knows what?

limitedperiodonly · 23/02/2015 20:33

How utterly ridiculous and insulting to all the families who have watched their families being murdered

Well that's me told.

ghostyslovesheep · 23/02/2015 20:35

absolutely Adsy that's exactly what everyone who is disagreeing with your view point is saying

we either agree with you or we want some kind of Isis love in / gleefully watch the atrocities while laughing like drains ...

because there is no other view is there :)

Hathall · 23/02/2015 20:35

Isn't it all about their intentions?
Until all their communication is analysed and made public (if ever), how can we judge them?
They may have been naive and duped completely or they knew exactly what they were doing.

ghostyslovesheep · 23/02/2015 20:38

last time I checked Al Shebab weren't Isis - nor are they Boko Haram ...

these are different groups

am I concerned AS are targeting western cities - yes

do I think Boko Haram are going to rock up and kidnap me in the night - no

do I think any of these groups are super ace and spiffing ... no not on any level

DoraGora · 23/02/2015 20:38

I don't believe their intentions have much to do with it. They're lovers of a dangerous and vicious and nihilistic philosophy. They may not be intending anything in particular. But, you can bet their new friends have plenty of intentions.

countessmarkyabitch · 23/02/2015 20:42

We don't arrest children for their friends intentions. We arrest them only if they commit crimes, and those crimes are within our legal jurisdiction, and we treat children differently to adults.
Those are the facts. The rest of this is just dick waving.

DoraGora · 23/02/2015 20:46

I'm not talking about arresting anybody.

woodhill · 23/02/2015 20:47

love the spiffing terminologyGrin

if you don't laugh you'd cry.

ghostyslovesheep · 23/02/2015 20:48

pst Dora I don't think you are being spoken to specifically - this is a thread with many general observation
