"Oh I'm lucky that I don't need to work, financially"

I'm going back to work next month and while chatting with other mums about it I've come across the above phrase a few times. Perhaps IBU but it sounds insufferably smug to be - so they married guys with money, so what? There's nothing wrong with saying you're a SAHM so why add the caveat that you've got a rich husband?

OP posts:
RufusTheReindeer · 16/02/2015 21:39

I don't want my husband to die Sad

Who would empty the bins and clean the bathroom????

Christinayang1 · 16/02/2015 21:42

No dying is a bit drastic , I couldn't be arsed organizing a decent funeral and I don't really like black

ihategeorgeosborne · 16/02/2015 21:44

Me neither Rufus.

Who would I shout at? Who would bring me a cup of tea in the morning? Who would drag us all out kicking and screaming on a Sunday afternoon for a long walk come rain or shine? Grin

Cornonthecob · 16/02/2015 21:45

Omg why care! Each to their own life is too short....

Penguinsaresmall · 16/02/2015 21:45

God this thread is depressing. Can't think of much else to say.

ihategeorgeosborne · 16/02/2015 21:45

Christin, I don't even have any suits anymore since I don't work!

Bambambini · 16/02/2015 21:46

Plus the insurance! Next doors patio would be better, sure they would check under mine!

Bambambini · 16/02/2015 21:49

I always keep some black at the back of the wardrobe - just in case!

Christinayang1 · 16/02/2015 21:50

Ihate

Of course you don't, I should have thought of that, well it's best if you come up with a new plan then...the whole funeral thing isn't for you

Christinayang1 · 16/02/2015 21:51

Bambi

Ohhhh you live in hope!

RufusTheReindeer · 16/02/2015 21:51

bam

You are devious Grin

ihategeorgeosborne · 16/02/2015 22:01

Best hide this thread in case dh reads it over my shoulder and decides to get in first! He has plenty of suits!

RufusTheReindeer · 16/02/2015 22:10

Oh shit!!!! I just showed dh!!!!

So my cunning plan isn't so cunning now Sad

Christinayang1 · 16/02/2015 22:12

Just to be safe he will probably up the ante on the bin taking out and bathroom cleaning

RufusTheReindeer · 16/02/2015 22:14

Oh excellent!!

So my cunning plan is still cunning!!!! Grin

Bambambini · 16/02/2015 22:17

Jesus Rufus! You are such a bumbling lightweight - you will not be invited onto my "surviving the apocalypse hardcore survivor guest list!"

ihategeorgeosborne · 16/02/2015 22:20

Rufus, you have a plan so cunning, you could put a tail on it and call it a Reindeer! Boom Boom!!!! Grin

RufusTheReindeer · 16/02/2015 22:20

Harsh bam Sad that's all I'm saying...harsh

RufusTheReindeer · 16/02/2015 22:22

ihate

Mwah! Ha! Ha! Grin

Christinayang1 · 16/02/2015 22:30

Do you get coffee and cake on this hardcore survivor thing?

ihategeorgeosborne · 16/02/2015 22:32

I am starting to think the pundits on here are right you know. I have been a SAHM for waaaaaaaaaaay to long Grin Grin

Christinayang1 · 16/02/2015 22:47

Was it the mention of coffee and cake that set you off....that usually does it for me.....

OscarWinningActress · 16/02/2015 22:51

I think you're being over sensitive and the crux of this issue is that we're all so judgemental about each other's choices that we feel we have to pre-emptively explain or apologize for them. I've been a WOHM because of financial necessity, then a WOHM because I wanted to, then a cash-strapped, house-poor SAHM of little kids and now I'm a SAHM of school-aged kids (and I don't do much during the day except ride my horse and goof around with the dog). You're never going to make everyone happy, no matter what you do, so ultimately (as long as your kids and partner are happy/supportive) do what you want and be happy :)

ihategeorgeosborne · 16/02/2015 23:09

I think the wine may have had a little bit to do with it too, but coffee and cake has been known to trigger it, particularly coffee and walnut cake.

Wine Brew Cake They all have a place in my life Grin

TheGirlInTheGlass · 16/02/2015 23:11

I've already posted about this in another thread, at length, not sure how to link to a single post, but it's towards the end, around 16.30 today:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/a2309611-Why-does-the-term-SAHM-get-so-many-people-wound-up?msgid=52617992#52617992

Basically, it's ridiculous that someone can't answer a question/volunteer information about their situation without people like the OP projecting their own emotion and tone of voice onto it.
Not everyone has an agenda, so don't let it affect you OP - and definitely don't presume to tar us all with the same brush.
