To want to kill this cat?

Looked out my window this afternoon while cleaning (and still feeling smug about it Grin) and saw next door's cat shitting on my garden [mad]

I went out to chase it away to find that it clearly isn't the first time it's done this!! Now my garden needs a mow as it hasn't been done since november (bloody rain) so I haven't seen the sea of shit that now hides in my grass. Pissed off doesn't even come close, I live in the country FFS and surrounded by fields so it's not like it's lacking in places to have a crap [mad]

How can I stop it shitting in my garden? My toddler has just started playing in the garden again now the weather is a bit better, I really don't want him to go blind!!! (ok so a bit melodramatic but still!)

There is a link, absolutely. One of the early markers of psychopathic traits is cruelty to animals - especially for fun or entertainment. The was a spate of dog poisonings with antifreeze recently, which is why I don't see the fun in jokes about it -

blackcats why would you do that? It's not on your property.

And fwiw everybody harping on about either being an animal lover or hater is talking bollocks. I work for 2 dog rehoming centres. I love animals. But I also love my home and garden that I've paid for, and expect my children (and those I childmind) to be able to play on their garden toys without rolling in cat shit.

Nobody can actually answer the question as to why cats are allowed to roam.

Also, on a side note, my dogs don't make a noise. At all. Nobody would even know I own them.

Lovemycatsandkids · 13/02/2015 08:23

Exactly patience I just couldn't be bothered to engage again.

patienceisvirtuous · 13/02/2015 08:23

You have to be a special kind of person to purposefully lay down antifreeze for an innocent animal to ingest, knowing it will die a slow, agonizing death... and feel smug about it.

Grotesque.

Inthedarkaboutfashion · 13/02/2015 08:26

I equate a human being not stopping to help an injured animal, any animal that needs help, on a par with not helping an injured child.

You can equate that if you like but if I stop and try to move an injured cat or touch it and then get back into my car with my child then I risk him having an anaphylactic reaction due to pet hair being on my clothes etc. an anaphylactic reaction would mean my son needing to use his epi pen and me calling an ambulance.
I am not going to risk that because somebody wants their cat to roam free.
Many adults have allergies themselves and won't be able to help an injured animal.
If you let your cat roam free then you risk it being hit by a car. I could equally argue that it is cruel to put your cat in the position where it might get injured by a car.

Lovemycatsandkids · 13/02/2015 08:27

monkey I am a childminder too.

I do the poo walk at 7am. I don't mind it's part of the job.

As a cm I am incredible aware of my influence over the children and always encourage them to respect and care for pets.

I am sorry but your views shock me as a person doing a normal job but as a cm? Unbelievable.

"Nobody can actually answer the question as to why cats are allowed to roam."

Because there's no reason why they shouldn't be? Human notions of garden boundaries and ownership are kind of irrelevant to animals. However, as you seem to be clinging doggedly to this one point, I wonder whether you could also tell me why in the case of dogs shitting everywhere it's the owners at fault, but when cats do it it's the cat's fault and they should be poisoned or ripped to pieces.

blackcats73 · 13/02/2015 08:34

Dogs are antisocial . They bark and cover the city with wee.

Pigeons shit in my garden too. ? I'll get an air rifle out

Squirrels come in my garden shoot em !!!!

Let's kill all animals!!!

MythicalKings · 13/02/2015 08:35

Not arguing that there isn't a link. But the earlier implication was that is was automatic and it isn't. With intervention children caught being cruel to animals can be taught not to be. Some troubled DCs go through a phase of this but not all go on to be cruel to other DCs or continue to do be cruel to animals as adults.

FindoGask · 13/02/2015 08:36

Yes! Actually thinking about it, all the garden birds I feed shit everywhere. What a disgrace. Perhaps I should put out poison instead of fatballs: that will teach them a lesson they won't forget.

patienceisvirtuous · 13/02/2015 08:37

Cats are allowed to roam because by nature they aren't a danger to people and don't damage property. It's also so that they can exhibit their natural behaviours.

You might want to familiarise yourself with the animal welfare act monkey

Some of us have acknowledged that it is the owners of both cats and dogs that are to blame and not the actual animals and not all of us expressing a hatred of cats shitting in our garden are expressing a desire to harm the cats. I wouldn't harm a cat or dog unless the dog was harming me or my children (obviously a cat can't do that so I wouldn't harm it). I can dislike cats shitting in my garden without wanting to hurt them.
I still wouldn't help an injured cat if my allergic child was with me though.

The posts that have angered people are those advocating animal cruelty.

That's what people are arguimg against.

Lovemycatsandkids · 13/02/2015 08:45

And I hope your ignorance of animal behaviour as in why do animals roam in my garden isn't passed in to your mindees.

Of course animals roam and poo and fly and kill things.

That's nature. As others have said a roaming dog could be dangerous and unable to hunt and kill would starve or attack humans.

Cats and other animals like foxes and badgers should be free to roam.

Yes poo is annoying. So are barking dogs and dogs that run at my mindees and jump up.

But I still love animals. It's never their fault.

patienceisvirtuous · 13/02/2015 08:46

*arguing

Pressed send too soon.

Especially those being gleeful about it. Animal cruelty is as funny as paedophilia. It's not.

Lovemycatsandkids · 13/02/2015 08:49

Frusso it's cold to not stop though. Very cold. Law or not.

JoanHickson · 13/02/2015 08:50

A few posters like the driver would leave my cat suffering. A knock on the door would find someone willing to take the cat to the vet or locate the owner.

FindoGask · 13/02/2015 08:52

"Some of us have acknowledged that it is the owners of both cats and dogs that are to blame and not the actual animals and not all of us expressing a hatred of cats shitting in our garden are expressing a desire to harm the cats."

I see that, which is why my posts were directed at monkeyface, and not at you.

Lovemycatsandkids · 13/02/2015 08:52

Exactly joan

If you can't help because you or yours are allergic you get help from others.

Most people arnt medically trained but they wouldn't walk past a human who needed help. They would get help.

Well decent people anyway.

JoanHickson · 13/02/2015 08:53

My cat went through suffering after. Had we known it was a crush injury we would have had her pts the first day. Had the arsehole told us or someone else what happened it would have lessened suffering. The flesh had died from lack of oxygen it was too extensive to amputate it went into the anus and vulva.

Lovemycatsandkids · 13/02/2015 08:54

Yes the posts advocating animal cruelty are strange and frightening.

diddl · 13/02/2015 09:15

If my cat shit in my neighbours garden I would hope that they would tell me so that we could work something out tbh.
