To want to kill this cat?

Looked out my window this afternoon while cleaning (and still feeling smug about it Grin) and saw next door's cat shitting on my garden [mad]

I went out to chase it away to find that it clearly isn't the first time it's done this!! Now my garden needs a mow as it hasn't been done since november (bloody rain) so I haven't seen the sea of shit that now hides in my grass. Pissed off doesn't even come close, I live in the country FFS and surrounded by fields so it's not like it's lacking in places to have a crap [mad]

How can I stop it shitting in my garden? My toddler has just started playing in the garden again now the weather is a bit better, I really don't want him to go blind!!! (ok so a bit melodramatic but still!)

I'm not fond of cats but think some posters on here are unhinged! Get a grip.

It's clear from a number of examples on the thread that there are non violent ways of deterring cats. All this killing / poisoning stuff - even in jest - is repulsive.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 13/02/2015 09:38

Morning all.
We think we have deleted the posts that advocate methods of destroying cats, and we would ask that everyone remembers the MN ethos of 'being naice' and 'making people's lives easier' and *'not winding people up unnecessarily'.

*We may have made this one up.

monkeyfacegrace · 13/02/2015 09:40

Wild animals can roam because they are just that- wild.

Cats are bought and bred by humans as pets. So treat them as pets and be responsible for them and their actions.

I was joking about the antifreeze. Obviously.

And I never said I'd enjoy watching them get attacked by my dogs. I've done my bit. My garden is fully enclosed with 6 foot fences. It's my space, my children's space, my dogs space.

If a cat enters, then it's the owners fault if it gets mauled. My dogs catch rabbits, they are sighthounds. Small furries in their territory are fair game.

I never said I enjoyed it, would torture an animal, or anything else of the sort.

Micah · 13/02/2015 09:41

My lovely old cat never killed anything. He chased a mouse once.

He did poo in gardens. But because he wasn't territorial he dug a big hole and covered it up properly. Unless you went digging in his "corner" you never saw any shit.

However, since he died last August we've had a nightmare with foxes. Yelling in the garden at 4am, keeping everyone awake. Shitting everywhere, in the kids playhouse. Fox shit is far, far worse than cat shit. I looked out the window at 2pm the other day and there was a big dog fox crapping in my garden, and another one crapping in the neighbours.

My neighbours want to know when I'm getting another cat. They've not had the fox issue since we moved in 7 years ago.

DidoTheDodo · 13/02/2015 09:42

I think some of the nasty posts on this thread prove that some humans are a lot more unpleasant than most cats.

Justwhy · 13/02/2015 09:48

Yes but humans don't poo in my garden.

FindoGask · 13/02/2015 09:48

"I was joking about the antifreeze. Obviously"

Yes, we all got that, thanks, and said so many times. You're still a bellend.

Justwhy · 13/02/2015 09:49

I don't think anyone has condoned killing cats other than a few deleted posts from trolls.

People haven't even said they hate cats. Just that owners need to be responsible for their cats. Poo in a garden is not nice. Once it's picked up it still lingers.

FindoGask · 13/02/2015 09:50

It's also interesting you make a living looking after other people's children, as I really wouldn't want someone cracking funnies like that around my kids.

DidoTheDodo · 13/02/2015 09:52

And cats don't belittle or patronise me!

namechangeafternamechange · 13/02/2015 10:08

Jeez when I started this thread I didn't think I would start an all out war!

joan I'm sorry your cat was run over but how on earth you could come to the conclusion that the person who did it must be 'someone like me the OP' is beyond me. I ask you to actually read the posts I have written and then report back where I have said that I would do something like that. I think you are going to struggle because I have not written anything of the sort. I haven't ANYWHERE IN ANY POST suggested violence towards any animal.

Same goes for you Lovemy because your 'you're a charmer OP' was misdirected as it wasn't actually me that suggested poisoning the cat, look back, read the thread again and I will be waiting for my apology because that type of personal remark is out of order and unnecessary.

Just because I don't like cats or them defecating in my garden doesn't make me evil, vile, nasty insert any of the other descriptions of me that have been used I like animals but I like what I like sheep, cows, chickens, dogs, rabbits. Not cats. My choice. Your choice to like them.

For all of the cat lovers who clearly think that it's not an issue that they shit in my garden, where my toddler plays and could go blind if he comes into contact with it, then feel free to come to my house and pick it up. No? Why not? Because it's not your garden? Or because it's not your cat? So what's the difference in me having to do it?

Please stop the personal insults. Obviously there are some MNers out there who don't understand banter and get offended at the drop of a hat but that is NO reason to lower yourself to making personal insults towards people that you don't know.

OP posts:
DidoTheDodo · 13/02/2015 10:17

Your thread title says you want to "kill this cat". Surely you must have known that was pretty inflammatory statement, even "in jest"?

namechangeafternamechange · 13/02/2015 10:26

I asked if I was BU for wanting to kill the cat, it's a turn of phrase, not 'I'm going to kill this cat'

For some reason I thought that people would have enough intelligence to see that it was just a turn of phrase and not me actually saying I was going to do it.

Put it this way, if a teen does something that they know is going to really piss off their parents what do they say? 'My mum is going to kill me' mum in turn says 'I'm going to kill him'. Nobody would actually turn around and say to the mum 'fucking hell you're vile, what a thing to say' because they obviously know it's not literal. I guess I applied the same psychology here but people never fail to amaze me.

OP posts:
shovetheholly · 13/02/2015 10:32

OP, I think the problem is that people can and do kill cats for very little more than this. And little is done about it by anyone. So it's not really very lighthearted or funny to joke about it. I am sure that you are horrified by the way in which your message has unleashed vile posts on this thread suggesting ways of doing it, and I am sure you had no idea that such awful people existed, but sadly, that is the case.

molyholy · 13/02/2015 10:42

The insinuation that because people do not like cats, they are some kind of vile person is hilarious. I detest cats. They are sly little shits, who shit in other peoples gardens and dig up plants etc. Why is that okay???? Why the hell should the onus be on the people who's garden they shit in, to go to all kinds of methods to stop someone elses cat shitting in THEIR property/ruining THEIR flowerbeds.

I do however have a tortoise, which we love and believe it or not - we are not cruel to it!!! I love my neice's rabbit. I also love dogs, and have had budgies and goldfish in the past.

It is possible to fucking detest dislike cats, but like other animals.

slippermaiden · 13/02/2015 10:48

Child won't go blind with cat poo, that's dog poo! But it is bad for pregnant ladies and really quite revolting. I have a cat and feel very sorry for you. Hmm

sanquhar · 13/02/2015 10:48

some people are just fucking nuts! my ds has trodden in dog shit twice in as many days, am i cursing the dogs as i scrub shit from his shoes and from the carpet? no. am i planning horrible ways of killing dogs? no. am i cursing their lazy-arsed, cocksucking owners who couldnt be bothered picking it up? yes i am.

im glad im not looking for a cm in the cheltenham area, i certainly wouldn't use monkeyfacegrace!

patienceisvirtuous · 13/02/2015 10:50

sly little shits

You do realise that they are not actually sly don't you?

Urgh.

patienceisvirtuous · 13/02/2015 10:54

Also, what a completely ridiculous statement.

It's like me saying I detest lions, deer abd goldfish.

Confused
patienceisvirtuous · 13/02/2015 10:55

and

namechangeafternamechange · 13/02/2015 10:55

shove you're quite right and I'm not naive enough to think that it doesn't happen however I don't think there is anyone on this planet who would go onto an open forum and be serious in the suggestion of animal cruelty. There are very few people on this planet who would openly out themselves as a psychopath.

FWIW I didn't take any of the suggestions as anything but a joke. I don't believe that the poster's that have written that meant it as anything but.

It's all very well not sharing the same sense of humour (mine is somewhere between Frankie Boyle and Jack Whitehall, not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure) but to resort to personal insults just isn't on. If you don't see the funny side then say so and leave it at that, don't start hurling names and descriptions at posters.

OP posts:
molyholy · 13/02/2015 10:58

Calm down patience. You like cats. I don't. That's okay isn't it? By the way, why do you detest lions, deer and goldfish? I thought you were an animal lover Grin

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 13/02/2015 10:58

This thread is hilarious!

Handbags at dawn!

patienceisvirtuous · 13/02/2015 10:59

OP you obviously haven't read many of the ubiquitous cat poo threads on here then - many posters come on being very serious about harming cats.

Some of the vile comments about animal cruelty here have not been said in jest - and yes, starting a goady thread, will, upset a lot of people.

echt · 13/02/2015 11:01

So possibly, OP you need to highlight your thread as

Sort of thing. Like not mentioning killing a living thing.
