^if I cared that much I would do this myself, but I don't
I can't be bothered^ so what are you whittling on about then ?

I have terrible skin, mostly as a result of some medical conditions but the ones that affect me most are the sensitivity to chemicals (and thats what most make ups are) and eczema and dry skin that can sometimes flare up at a mere whiff of Boots chemical make up aisle, oh and on and off hormones. It jst feels horrid on my skin

Now I'm willing to admit to being a selfish cow but my comfort is way more important to me than whether a stranger perceives me to look tired plus I just cant bring myself to be that bothered

I really really can't be bothered with what anyone else chooses to put on their face/or not put on their face.

Sometimes I choose to wear make up. Sometimes I don't. Whether I look healthier or not is immaterial. I don't expect anyone cares too much.

Men don't get these kind of inane suggestions to make them look more pleasing.

isseywithcats · 03/02/2015 14:29

i get up for work at 6.30 am and theres no way at that time i the morning i am faffing about with any make up too busy seeing to the cats and getting my sorry ass out of the house

SummerHouse · 03/02/2015 14:32

This is for sure in my top ten of all threads ever!

UptheChimney · 03/02/2015 14:37

Tinted moisturiser in beards is a very unbecoming look.

LividofLondinium · 03/02/2015 14:39

If you are saying 99% of people would better with minimal make-up rather than the troweled on slap/orange drag queen look that seem so popular, then YANBU. Otherwise I think people would simply look better if they had enough sleep, ate a balanced diet, took some exercise and had a positive outlook to life.

CallMeExhausted · 03/02/2015 14:52

I don't wear makeup. Never have, never will.

I don't need war paint to leave the house, and my value goes a hell of a lot farther than hiding a spot or a freckle behind chemicals.

And, my husband and son look foolish in mascara.

UptheChimney · 03/02/2015 15:43

my husband and son look foolish in mascara Grin Grin Grin

But, I don't know ... my DS looks very cute in lipstick.

TheSkiingGardener · 03/02/2015 16:28

You see, if I did this, you might think I look better. I would feel like shit though.

And I come first in me deciding how I feel.

loiner45 · 03/02/2015 17:21

Meh - wore makeup in my teens and early 20's then stopped, felt so much better for not wearing any - then had a professional "makeover" When I was 35 - present from the then dh, spent the whole time on the bus home wanting to scrub my face and feeling like it was caked with STUFF. That was 25 yrs ago and haven't touched it since. Why gild the lily? Grin

flora717 · 03/02/2015 17:33

By better I take it you mean less real.
By 'well groomed' I take it as 'fake'. I happen to think makeup looks strange. But I am not about to say this to anyone.
Why on earth is it OK to tell people unsolicited how they could be more aesthetically pleasing to you?
Do they want to?
Is this their sole purpose?
Also 99%? YABVU to expect babies and children to meet your opinion of 'better'.

pointythings · 03/02/2015 17:41

Dear OP, the second word is 'off'.

Sallystyle · 03/02/2015 17:52

The problems with these thread is also comments like this:

Fake
Less real
My value goes further than wearing make up

etc etc

I wear make up and I am no less fake or l real than those who don't wear it. OP was stupid to say what she did but these threads always leads to people making offensive statements about those who do wear make up, even if those statements aren't meant to offend.

SummerHouse · 03/02/2015 18:11

Op have you considered being a beautition? You get to ask people what their usual beauty routine is and have people like me snort back and ask what you mean. Then watch them cringe as they describe a process involving water and a towel.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 03/02/2015 18:16

Ok, diversion.

Overdone fake tans.

Why do people think they look better orange?

Woozlebear · 03/02/2015 18:17

Yeah, I look better with a bit of makeup. But I can't really ever be arsed and I don't care enough what other people think of that aspect of me. I like feeling able to rub my face and get dressed without worrying about beige smears on things.

It works well because it seems I can outsource the concern I should probably be feeling about my appearance to you, op. Win win!

flowery · 03/02/2015 18:25

Exactly. Some people don't feel they need or want to wear make up, others do prefer to. Either is a valid choice but putting down those who make a different choice is ugly on the inside, especially when it comes with a sense of some kind of moral superiority.

MoanCollins · 03/02/2015 18:38

I literally reupholster my face every morning. I go for the 'Cruella does Dallas' look. Works for me. Bloody terrifies people. If I went for the natural look people might think I was a nice approachable person and I'm really not keen on that idea.

jasmineramsden · 03/02/2015 18:47

Judgy pants out in force on this! Who gives a stuff if you wear make up or not! Personally I wear it most days and like it. Big deal. If you don't want to wear it good for you, but no need to judge those who do as though they are somehow lesser people! Hahaha

DragonMamma · 03/02/2015 19:10

Bloody hell, what's with all the hate towards us make up wearers?!

Wear it, don't wear it, doesn't bother me in the slightest.

What I have noticed, IME, is that often no make up tends to come with straggly hair, clothes that aren't ironed or well fitted and they just look generally unkempt.

I do agree with what the OP says though, most women do look better with make up on. It's simply whether they care or want to put it on.

skylark2 · 03/02/2015 19:18

I think most people would look a darn sight better if they didn't spend hours and £££ faffing about painting themselves with crap, but don't let that stop you.

hotfuzzra · 03/02/2015 19:22

This reminds me of a time when talking to a colleague about one of my best friends who had died of skin cancer aged 24, the colleague said something along the lines of '...and she was pretty, which makes it even more tragic.'
As though if she had been ugly it wouldn't have been as sad. I challenged her about it and she stuck to her comment, saying it was more of a loss to the world that a pretty person had died.
Why is so much value placed on peoples' appearances? If they're nice and intelligent/interesting/funny etc then it shouldn't matter what they look like!

Mrsstarlord · 03/02/2015 19:29

I don't really understand the oodles of unnatural looking fake tan, fake eyelashes and drawn on eyebrows. Can't imagine any situation where I would think this is a good look for me and I admit that I find it very disconcerting talking to people who are wearing them as I spend my time staring at them trying to work out what attracts them to such an unnatural look or if they realise that it looks so unnatural.
I know this says more about me than them, I know some lovely people who wear makeup like this and I wouldn't ever say anything to them, I just feel totally befuddled when I see their drawn on eyebrows and big heavy eyelashes

Mrsstarlord · 03/02/2015 19:30

Oh and I'm probably in the straggly hair, non ironed clothes camp - so this probably explains it!!!!
