Friends boiler broke down & was fixed for free within 4 days. When mine broke down, I had to apply for a loan to get it fixed & took 4 weeks.

All she's done is moan on Fb it's taken too long.

Felt like adding get a job & try paying for it yourself & then you'd have something to moan about!

Still paying off the sodding loan - how I wish I had a council house ??

We are still waiting more than 2 years on for a new front door, the one we have is from the 60's I bet, they will tell us when it's being fitted, nothing is done at our convenience.

ilovechristmas1 · 27/01/2015 14:50

it also works both ways this argument

op dosent think it's fare that friend has a new boiler for free

im sure some would moan that as a homeowner why should i get a free boiler as it upgrading my system and if i was to sell would be a big plus and as i own my home i would benefit financially

It's not enough to feel lucky to be disabled Brillo, you have to be grateful too.

NurseDoctor · 27/01/2015 14:52

Because disability has anything to do with what I said? This is ridiculous

fuzzpig

Is that allowed ? That's bloody appalling.

Brillo (((hug)))

IHaveBrilloHair · 27/01/2015 14:57

I'm so ungrateful, I want to move again, and then will ask for another bathroom with walk in shower, never happy me.

MrsVamos · 27/01/2015 14:58

MrsDV

Ooh, that could be me in another 30 odd years then. DH had a bad accident at work last year and we're not sure yet if he will ever be able to go back.

I just have to be patient and wait for him to be disabled enough, do I ?

Goodo.

That wont work for me though. He's a bit older than me so could well be dead before I get my kitchen.

Oh fuck.

NOT.

we are very fortunate that we finish our mortgage next year, so many people can't afford to buy so renting is the other option, i don't begrudge anyone their council home as private renting can be very high.
yes, you do have to pay for extra things like boilers etc but that is all part and parcel of buying, be thankful you have a roof over your head, so many people and families don't and possibly do not know where they will be living a weeks time, you sound a bit entitled tbh.
in europe most people rent their homes it would appear in the u.k some people think it is a right to own their own home, it isn't, when i started on the ladder in 1991, it was easier but prices are now way beyond most people. let alone the younger generations coming along, i feel for them.

blackheartsgirl · 27/01/2015 15:00

op tell you what I am in a council house and I'd give almost anything to have my own house again. My kids will inherit nothing when I die. DS has autism and dp does work..in a minimum wage job and we are barely keeping our heads above water. My rent is almost that of a private rent believe it or not

Envy away, my kitchen is 20 years old, falling apart. A door fell of its hinges and injured my daughter, my sink unit can be pulled away from the wall, my bathroom has sprung another leak despite being repaired and I have water damage on my kitchen ceiling which conveniently drips onto my cooker when people have a bath.

I have no shower and I'm not allowed to put one in myself. If they do I have been told it will be ripped out and I will be billed for damage.

The council will not do any more than minimum repair because everything is supposed tobe updated in the next five years. My kitchen ceiling will have caved in by then

envy away. why don't you sell up and get a council house if your are that green eyed.

EatShit that seems completely ridiculous that you can't put your own in at your own expense

MrsVamos · 27/01/2015 15:05

That's what happened to my friend, Eats.

Only they didn't charge her for ruining her bathroom.

Butterpuff · 27/01/2015 15:05

I'm over 36 weeks pregnant, our boiler broke, we are staying with MIL while it gets fixed, its taking ages, its costing us an absolute fortune. I'm still glad we get to live in the house we chose, in the area we chose and are fortunate enough not to need any help to achieve it. Yes things will be tough, we will have to go without to pay for the fix, but I don't envy my friends in council houses working or otherwise who have to live in a house not of their choosing, often in an area not of their choosing who get the boiler fixed quickly and for free.

EatShit I never meant to insult anyone who is in council housing. I honestly believe if most people saw her posts they would have found it equally annoying. It is never ever anything like you describe, and believe me she would post it if there was. I have no idea why she got her kitchen replaced. But she never complained that the timing wasn't her choice or anything like you describe. She complained that it was noisy when she was trying to nap and that it took 3 days to put in. She wanted the kitchen. Bragged about the kitchen being put in for weeks.
We all envy people sometimes. She pays less, I envy her disposable income. Would I want someone to tell me what they are going to do to where I live all the time? Of course not. Do I think disabled people are lucky to get funding? Of course not. I work with ill/disabled people every day. No amount of kitchens or boilers or anything is worth someones health.
Unfortunately I think people interpreted my annoyance with her as what I think ALL council tenants are like. That is completely not true

NurseDoctor · 27/01/2015 15:19

That is crazy ridiculous. A beer can? really? god that really would drive me mad
