Friends boiler broke down & was fixed for free within 4 days. When mine broke down, I had to apply for a loan to get it fixed & took 4 weeks.

All she's done is moan on Fb it's taken too long.

Felt like adding get a job & try paying for it yourself & then you'd have something to moan about!

Still paying off the sodding loan - how I wish I had a council house ??

Too many corners are being cut.......literally. And while the fines are as low as this it will continue to happen because the money they save by using cowboys outweigh the fines.

Eh!

smileyfacestar · 04/05/2015 17:56

YANBU. I completely hear you.

TheCatsMother99 · 04/05/2015 18:28

I'm with you OP & think YANBU.

I think the people saying the OP chose to buy rather than rent are being unreasonable. Just like the OP, just because I scrimped and saved & put every penny I had in to a deposit for a house I think it's unfair to say I don't have a right to moan when I have to cough up thousands of pounds for a new boiler (which I actually did have to do unexpectantly weeks after buying the house), money I didn't have, go without hot water/heating for weeks and yet someone who rents doesn't have it for a few days and goes ape-sh*t.

Yes people's circumstances are different, some rent, some own, but from someone who owns their property I'm saying that yes, it is pretty frustrating when renters (HA and private) get repairs done 'free' and in very little time when we have to constantly pay out.

Take what I say however you want but I was brought out to go without and do whatever I could to own a property so I'm not retirement age and renting because I wouldn't be able to afford it & I wouldn't qualify for a council place. Don't slate private owners because they were 'fortunate' enough to be able to buy something.

HelenaDove · 04/05/2015 18:41

Cats Mother HA tenants pay a weekly service charge so its not "free"

Tenants of some HAs have gone for 7 weeks or more without heating and/or hot water over the winter. Some of whom are elderly.

In one case it took nearly 5 months for the contracters to fit a boiler and six rads. There was a flood in the bedroom caused by the work they did. Which they then tried to say it must have already been wet.

passmethewineplease · 04/05/2015 18:44

You sound like a great friend OP!

PeppermintCrayon · 04/05/2015 18:45

You could always give your house to your friend and have her council house and then you'd have what you wanted. helpful

HelenaDove · 04/05/2015 18:46

And the young mum in that link could have been killed Tenants have very little choice who they can allow in their home.

PeppermintCrayon · 04/05/2015 18:47

PS nobody forced you to buy a house, right? You weren't held at gunpoint and made to sign the mortgage?

I rent. I get my boiler fixed for free. Lucky me, not being able to buy a home.

confused79 · 04/05/2015 18:48

It's not the joys of having a council house, it's the joys of being in rented accommodation. You've bought your place which therefore means you're responsible for the maintenance.

Sallystyle · 04/05/2015 18:49

Zombie!

Feminine · 04/05/2015 18:50

Yay
This thread came back!

PeppermintCrayon · 04/05/2015 18:51

OP you didn't have to wait four weeks. You chose to by not saving for repairs. Just saying.

HelenaDove · 04/05/2015 18:53

HA residents who pay a service charge of £125 a month cut off from heating for five months of the year.

PtolemysNeedle · 04/05/2015 19:20

You really are obsessed with your gas issues aren't you Helena?

HelenaDove · 04/05/2015 19:24

I dont want to see someone get killed because of others cutting corners. If thats obsession then fine.

TheCatsMother99 · 04/05/2015 19:52

I think the point was that this tenant waited 4 days. And by 'free' I meant that they didn't suddenly have to pay £3k or so for a new boiler, hence the ' marks.
