just that really. Obv I dont know him IRL so im only judging on what ive seen on TV. He just seems really rude to all his guests on the show... what does everyone else think? Grin

I suppose it's tricky being in the public eye though. I remember reading something Derren Brown wrote once about how he really does his best to be pleasant and engaging when people approach him, but that he was once late to meet a friend and let the door swing shut behind him as he was frantically scanning the crowd on arrival at the pub. He heard someone mutter "Well THANK YOU" behind him, and realised that that person will probably spend years telling anyone who'll listen at dinner parties what a rude wanker he is Grin.

You can't please everyone.

lorraine pascal is a funny one... sometimes I like her abd sometimes I feel shes trying to be the new/younger nigella?

Does anyone remember the woeful Sophie Dahl TV cookery show? Now that was a bit embarrassing.

ShatnersBassoon · 24/01/2015 13:32

I've had a bit of an about turn on him. I used to think he fancied himself a bit too much and based his whole career on butter and Yorkshire. However, since watching so many other TV cooks like Jamie and Nigella, I've realised he's actually very good - he is obviously a very able chef and produces some really tasty-looking food while keeping conversations going with all those people sitting there. I don't think the other TV cooks could do that.

I just wish he'd mention where he's from more often Hmm

Lorraine's recipes are a bit Hmm

The ice cream cake made out of 6 tubs of Haagen-Dazs, and making cheese sauce using a tenner's worth of mascarpone.

My son likes her though, and she seems nice enough on the telly.

bettyboop1970 · 24/01/2015 13:40

All so called 'celeb' chefs are knobs IMO
Why are people famous for cooking food?
I don't get it

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2015 13:42

When the multi millionaire Jame Oliver starts telling us how to cook for 20p a day or whatever. That winds me up.

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2015 13:43

*Jamie

JakeShit · 24/01/2015 13:44

I think he comes over as nice enough.

I dislike a lot of chefs - Gordon Ramsey and macro Peirre White both seem like horrible people.

Macus Werring (sp?) was really vindictive and nasty to another chef (Johnny something) on the Great British Menu (he scored him 2) ans a lot of other chefs just seem to up themselves - Jamie and Nigella are nauseating and Raymond Blanc is so fake.

I don't mind the Roux family.

ghostyslovesheep · 24/01/2015 13:44

OMG Sparkling that picture Grin

I have friends who know/knew him - and yes - by all accounts not a nob at all

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 24/01/2015 13:46

Oh God I loathe Gordon Ramsay with a passion.

A top twat in a world of twattiness.

BOFster · 24/01/2015 13:51

Do you remember his nice wife Tana coming here for a webchat? A mumsnetter got her confused with Tania Byron and asked her for advice with sleep-training Grin. She did her best to answer though, bless her.

egnahc · 24/01/2015 13:52

He puts classic Jane Grigson recipes in his books and claims they were his grannies own unique recipe.

BOFster · 24/01/2015 13:56

Maybe Jane nicked them off Granny Martin? Grin

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2015 13:56

As nobby TV chefs go how about Gino D'Campo?

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 24/01/2015 13:58

I do James's Yorkshire Pudding recipe, it is epic to be fair, I think he credits his Gran for that too.

limitedperiodonly · 24/01/2015 13:59

They all do that - apart from Sophie Grigson. I've got a couple of her books and she credits loads of people - either named cooks or places where she's eaten and copied the food. There's one rabbit and mustard recipe where she credits a 40 year old clipping from a French local newspaper.

MassaAttack · 24/01/2015 14:03

Nigella credits people, too.

I still need to know about Martin's ring.

EveDallasRetd · 24/01/2015 14:06

I didn't like MPW until I saw him on Masterchef Australia and he was comforting/gee-ing up a competitor who was in a nervous flat spin. He sounded so genuine and the guy really pulled it together after. I softened on him then.

I really like JM, love his recipes and like the way he comes across.

Now Tom Kerrige I can't stand - he was arrogant as hell when worked in Newent and the stories of his Twitter bullying finished me off.

Heston is my fave for sheer madness though.

(I'm still sad over the Jamie thing - I thought he was fab until his budget book. My neice tried out some recipes from the one he sent her, but she simply couldn't afford to keep it up. It was a marketing disaster and his iPhone/benefits/wide screen TVs comments made me realise that actually, he doesn't get it at all)

chipshop · 24/01/2015 14:23

I've interviewed James Martin and he was lovely. I know some celebs turn it on for journos but I do actually think he's alright. I fancied him beforehand but he was wearing a white jacket and it was just so wrong I haven't fancied him since. Disappointing.

wowfudge · 24/01/2015 14:25

I can't stand MPW - hands up anyone who believes he used to rub stock cubes on his chicken! But I don't know him at all and he could be a nice bloke.

JugglingLife · 24/01/2015 14:29

I've seen him in his birthday suit! Mixed changing room in a little health spa years ago..... And he was using baby oil! Scarred me for life! Well I think it was him anyway! Wink

thornrose · 24/01/2015 14:29

Oh that advert drives me mad wow. It's like he has no bloody principles.
