You're going back a bit there, Sparkling Grin.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 24/01/2015 12:28

I do love his house and kitchen on Home Comforts, he cooks some fantastic food on that show.

WipsGlitter · 24/01/2015 12:28

He has well dodgy taste in clothes. Rugby shirts with a blazer??

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2015 12:28

Grin BOF. I think he's still lovely. he did a webchat on here and was nice IIRC.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 24/01/2015 12:29

I liked the cheese bloke today on HC. Grin

JeanSeberg · 24/01/2015 12:30

You're not unreasonable OP. He appears to be without an ounce of humility.

Blueandwhitelover · 24/01/2015 12:30

he has cooked in my kitchen :-)
He is lovely x

FamilyAdventure · 24/01/2015 12:31

"Kind of like the older woman's Jamie?!" He'll be thrilled with that, he's only 3 years older than Jamie.

I like him. He seems relaxed and genuine with people to me, The kind of person who can get away with saying things without causing offence, that less personable people wouldn't be able to. I don't see him as eye candy though.

As for where they got him from he worked in several Michelin starred restaurants before the age of 22, when he opened his own restaurant, he's been on TV regularly since the mid 1990's and has published a string of books. Was an early Ready Steady Cook regular and was on Strictly more than a decade ago. Think he did quite well

SirNoel · 24/01/2015 12:33

Ooh no YANBU. Total knob stick.

TwatFaceBitch · 24/01/2015 12:33

I don't mind him. But I'm getting a bit peeved at how bloody often he on telly now. It's over kill! He's on everyday and sometimes more than once a day. Why?!?
I'm not watching tv all day honest. Just when ever I turn on he seem to be on or advertise to be on later.

Dumbledoresgirl · 24/01/2015 12:34

I can see what anyone might have to say against him tbh. Arrogant? yes, I could believe it of him. But I find that rather sexy, if I am honest. I sometimes catch his Home Comfort programme on weekday afternoons and I have to admit I have to stop myself drifting off into rather twisted fantasies about him. Blush

That said, a friend of mine met him and reported he was utterly charming to her.

BOFster · 24/01/2015 12:34

Paul Hollywood seems a bit full of himself, mind. But I can't whip myself into a lather about him either. Rick Stein is another one on the smug side.

The really rude ones are the proper chefs though like Gordon Ramsey and the thoroughly dislikeable Marco Pierre White. There's a French one who is a pleasant exception, but I've forgotten his name.

I do miss Keith Floyd.

pud1 · 24/01/2015 12:34

the cancer patient matt goss talked about ( Amy watts) is a friend of mine so it was surreal watching for me this morning.

silverstreak · 24/01/2015 12:36

Totally agree re the looks SanDiego but going on quite a few of the comments on here (and in RL!) we are in the minority?! And OK he maybe has some talent as a chef but not as much as many, many others (my Cheffi OH, for example, although clearly I'm a tad biased :) ) which would be understandable/excusable if any of the other elements which made a successful celeb chef were present - eg looks, charm, personality - but I think we're in agreement that that isn't necessarily the case?! Rah.... Must stop the hating, solo bad for my stress levels!!

Eminybob · 24/01/2015 12:36

Yanbu I don't like him. But I can't remember why not Confused
I've not watched him on telly for a long time because something put me off

Dumbledoresgirl · 24/01/2015 12:37

There's a French one who is a pleasant exception, but I've forgotten his name.

Jean-Christophe Novelli?

What about Michel Roux? (the younger) OMG I so would!

BOFster · 24/01/2015 12:37

Raymond Blanc, that's the one! Seems very affable for a French chef.

charlingx · 24/01/2015 12:38

BOF - I totally agree with everyone on that list! I havent realised before but most male TV chefs are rather arrogant arnt they? Paul Hollywood may even be worse than James... he just seems so slimey! Envy

OP posts:
GretnaGreen · 24/01/2015 12:39

I like him. Honestly don't see the arrogance. I don't fancy him but can see why people would. His food looks fab.

Inkanta · 24/01/2015 12:41

He seems to get an awful lot of airtime. He's not bad as a chef but why is he on all Saturday morning and Sunday as well.

charlingx · 24/01/2015 12:41

Pud - I can imagine! someone I know was on judge Rinder yesterday and I nearly wet myself! I genuinely wish your friend all the best, will be hoping for some good news for her x

OP posts:
pud1 · 24/01/2015 12:43

thankyou charlingx. the support she has received has been overwhelming x

MassaAttack · 24/01/2015 12:43

Chef friends who've worked for Blancy loved him. I Michel Jnr, too.

Someone ages ago on MN said JM was a knob. I didn't believe them.

ClashCityRocker · 24/01/2015 12:47

I know someone who knows him and said he was a nob. I realise how vague that sounds but don't want to out myself.

Also, didn't his stepmother sue him for bullshitting about her in his autobiography? It was a big thing in the press round this way.

I quite like him, though, he seems down to earth.
