im just not getting what the big deal is? woman who do page 3 do it because they want to. at least i think they do. i do understand not everyone agrees with that sort of thing. but is it not upto the woman that do it. i don't see that anyone has the right to stop it if that's what woman want to do.

You must have read or heard somethng to have written the OP.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 22/01/2015 18:17

There are enough threads on reasons why page three is exploitative and undermines women's rights, not sure what this one adds.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 22/01/2015 18:18

Why not add your insight on one of the gazillions of existing threads on this issue?

gobbynorthernbird · 22/01/2015 18:18

If a woman wants to get her tits out for a living, it's no business of mine. Do I think these images should be in a newspaper that anyone can but, or read in public? No.

It is about the objectification of women. The fact that nothing matters more about us than tits and arse. That how we look is more important than who we are or what we achieve. That our primary function in life is to arouse men.

Our breasts are for the sexual pleasure of men, so much so that their actual function is seen to be somehow dirty or wrong and to be hidden.

Women 'twerk' and go half naked around fully clothed men and we have been sold the idea that this 'empowers us'. Poor men need to strip off, oil up, thrust their genitals around and get some empowerment too...

Women in public places are pawed at and treated like their natural state is available.

The media talks more about a woman's choice of outfit than anything to do with her talents and skills.

I mean, it's everywhere and it's all part of a whole. Every half naked woman put on public display is a re-enforcement of the idea that women are to be displayed for the pleasure of men.

So when men grope us in pubs and clubs. When we get yelled at in the street and have lewd suggestions shouted at us by a bloke leaning out of his car window. When what we wear is reason to assault us. When we are treated like this, it matters. Every bit of it.

ghostyslovesheep · 22/01/2015 18:23

maybe go and do a bit of reading of the 948798479878 other threads on this subject :)

I have no issue with breasts - I have them

I have no issue with grown women deciding to let people take pics of their breasts for money

I resent women in sexy poses with their breast on display being plastered all over a newspaper which people then read in public - so women are reminded of their real status in society

flumpysocks · 22/01/2015 18:27

Jeez, why is this SO hard to understand?
Boobs: fine.
Glamour modeling: fine.
Boobs/glamour shots in "family" newspaper: not fine.

It's about WHERE they are, not WHAT they are.

gatewalker · 22/01/2015 18:30

The big deal is connected with the fact that you don't see what the big deal is.

30somethingm · 22/01/2015 18:30

@HowCanIMissYouIfYouWont... Spot on!

ilovesooty · 22/01/2015 18:42

I can't see this ending well. Surely you must have done some reading round the subject?

maddy68 · 22/01/2015 18:47

I agree op

If women want to pose topless or anything else for that matter fine.

wobblyweebles · 22/01/2015 19:35

You'll all be fine with it when your daughter decides to be a page 3 model?

suboptimal · 22/01/2015 19:38

"At least I think I do".... Says it all really.

What you've bascially just posted is "some people like apples. Do some people like apples? Do they? I think so. I'm not sure...."

Stunningly educated and insightful. Well done.

hotcupofjoe · 22/01/2015 19:43

im just not getting what the big deal is
Well then you should find out more about and understand the arguments. That way, at least you'll have actually thought about it and your opinion will be an informed and intelligent one. "not getting" implies you have no idea why people are against it and the things you put forward in your OP just haven't occurred to them.

invisiblecrown · 22/01/2015 19:45

There is a time and a place for tits, imo. A newspaper in homes, offices, coffee shops, doctors waiting rooms etc, isn't that place.

ouryve · 22/01/2015 19:47

Really OP? Hmm

You're not a 15 year old boy, by any chance?

isitsnowingyet · 22/01/2015 19:48

It is about the objectification of women. The fact that nothing matters more about us than tits and arse. That how we look is more important than who we are or what we achieve. That our primary function in life is to arouse men.

That really OP.

I would never buy the Sun. Plus - shouldn't a national 'newspaper' realize that we are now in the 21st Century??

morethanpotatoprints · 22/01/2015 19:49

Its hardly a family reading if it has page 3 nudes is it?

I think its fine and my ds grew up oggling the girls.
Somebody took one in in year 6 iirc.
They are grown men now and have healthy outlook on life and their gf are lovely and respected by them.

I have a friends whose sons are all over the place and not a healthy attitude towards women, one of them is struggling to keep down relationships due to so much porn use.
My ds didn't move onto the horrible porn page 3 was enough for them.
I say careful what you wish for and pick your battles.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 22/01/2015 19:54

Hahahaha at knowing what porn your sons look at. And to proudly say they grew up 'ogling' page 3 girls- what a bizzare outlook.

invisiblecrown · 22/01/2015 19:55

Completely.

You have no idea what your son uses to masturbate. Don't pretend.

simontowers2 · 22/01/2015 19:57

I cant the big deal either. It's actually a pretty damning inditement of the current state of feminism that women's libbers focus on this rather than much more important issues eg lack of female CEOs.

HowCanIMissYouIfYouWontGoAway · 22/01/2015 20:00

And you can't see how it all fits together, I suppose?

HowCanIMissYouIfYouWontGoAway · 22/01/2015 20:03

actually, ignore that, don't bother, I'm just going to hide the thread. There's no way the answer wouldn't just depress the fuck out of me,

maddy68 · 22/01/2015 20:04

I'm not much for censorship of Any description. I much prefer the Dutch view of sex. I think that's rather empowering in all honesty
