im just not getting what the big deal is? woman who do page 3 do it because they want to. at least i think they do. i do understand not everyone agrees with that sort of thing. but is it not upto the woman that do it. i don't see that anyone has the right to stop it if that's what woman want to do.

Oh not potato prints again

You know what your san used to masturbate over?

If you do then you have some boundary issues to say the least.

Breasts are not news! Men in The Sun are talked about for their sport, achievements, women are just used as wank fodder and I for one did not like it when my dd aged 4 sat near a man while she was waiting to her hearing check who was drooling over them. Of course we moved but that's not really the point is it.

There are of course many more important issues, but it doesn't mean we can't care about more than one thing at once.

joanne1947 · 22/01/2015 20:05

I agree op If women want to pose topless or anything else for that matter fine.
I agree with that, as long as it is free choice why not? If my son ogled tits in a porrn mag that was part of growing up (I'm sure he did but as he was 40 last week he now is more interested in the real thing without staples through the middle).

If the models are forced into posing or exploited then it is wrong but showing tits in a main stream newspaper is probably a good thing.
Years ago before I sagged a lot Dh and DC and I used to go to a beach on the Red sea where hardly anyone wore anything. It was perfect. I could feel my DS from one tit while the other was on full view and none bothered.
I really wonder if more nakedness would make it all normal, (not just now as it is -5 outside and I don't want my DH to resemble a brass monkey)

PasstheDaimbars · 22/01/2015 20:08

It's actually a pretty damning inditement of the current state of feminism that women's libbers focus on this rather than much more important issues eg lack of female CEOs.

Really can't see it?

Really?

Women are been told that all they are is tits and arse, Men are been told Women are only good for one thing, and you can't see that this attitude might affect how Women have issues getting to the top in businesses?

Think of it being like the Broken Windows Crime Theory. Addressing the small acts of sexism is just as important as the big ones and has an effect.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 22/01/2015 20:09

D'ya know I could explain but somehow I doubt you would listen. If you really want to understand why it makes women and girls uncomfortable you could read one of the many threads about it and educate yourself. Smile

hiddenhome · 22/01/2015 20:10

I'm happy for tits to be on Page 3 as long as there's cocks on Page 4 Smile

I would also love to sit ogling said cocks whilst sitting next to some knuckle dragging bloke, and then spend some time gazing at his crotch whilst giving him the odd Wink

morethanpotatoprints · 22/01/2015 20:15

Sharon

At least they have a healthy attitude towards women.
Which is more than you can say for a lot of young lads today.

No, I do not know 100% what they use to masterbate, but we have a normal healthy discussion about these things when they were teens.
Don't you talk to your kids?
No wonder there are so many unhealthy males these days.
Maybe parents should look at what they aren't teaching their dc rather than blaming others for their short comings.

I knew about the sun and oggling page 3 because the HT called the y6 boys parents into school. In later life my dc admitted to not going beyond this, they were hardly cross examined.

MildDrPepperAddiction · 22/01/2015 20:22

Yabvvvvvu. Hmm

invisiblecrown · 22/01/2015 20:22

At least they have a healthy attitude towards women.

I'm sorry, but you just can't say that. You're not the one having sex with them.

formerbabe · 22/01/2015 20:23

In theory I agree with all the arguments against it, but in reality I am just not bothered by it.

ghostspirit · 22/01/2015 20:56

i really can understand why people are against it. but what about the people who want to do it and work in that industry. to them its a job and thats taking a way their living.

mupperoon · 22/01/2015 21:08

Ghostspirit what a stupid, fatuous argument. Do you think that any page 3 girls are permanent employees of the Sun? As many PPs have said, there's plenty of places to work if you want to get your tits out for money. The issue is the tits being printed in a so-called family newspaper. If you can't understand that, then keep buying the Sun, it's about your level.

morethanpotatoprints · 22/01/2015 21:11

Invisible
I have eyes, ears and a good relationship with both my ds and their gfs, although ds2 is only 20 and has a new gf.
I see how they talk to one another, how they interact and ds1 gf tells me she is happy because he is a gentleman, caring and respectful.
I know you can't be 100% sure of anything, but I have no reason to believe my ds do not have a good attitude towards women.
Dh has lead by example too, when they were both at home, he didn't oggle women and if you think men don't do this with their teenage sons then you are mistaken, I have seen it. I know some men who have gone to lap dancers with their son and friends on a stag doo.

Samcro · 22/01/2015 21:13

i can't get my head round anyone calling the scum a family news paper

wobblyweebles · 22/01/2015 21:22

ghostspirit would you be really disappointed if your 16 year old daughter couldn't get her tits out for photos that were going to be splashed around the country? I mean, I know I would be devastated...

ghostspirit · 22/01/2015 21:33

wobblyweebles i would hate for her to do that sort of job i really would. but also what right do i have to say no thats not happening... are 16 year olds even allowed to do that sort of thing. saying that i would not like my 18 year old to do it either. But im thinking just in general about the people that do want to it. what right do them who are against it have to stop them who do want it.

Having said that. are people just saying it should be kept away from the sun news paper. but if it was a top shelf magazine would that be ok? genuine question im just trying to look/understand other angles. so no need to have a pop. its just a question :)

Because it doesn't occur in a vacuum. In a society with a depressing lack of women in the media - as alluded to by the women CEOs whataboutery swerve up thread - we see men doing 'stuff' and women having tits. Men are the subject and women are the object. Boys see women as objects. Girls see themselves as objects. It's out there in the public domain, folded up on the dashboards of vans and left on train seats. You can't avoid it so poor Nicole from Bournemouth is just going to have to take one for the team and stick to other tit based work if thats what she 'chooses' to do.

I have no idea why you are under the impression that this is the only circumstance, ever, where people are stopped from doing what they want to do for the greater good.

bottleofbeer · 22/01/2015 21:56

The Sun, newspaper? snort

ilovesooty · 22/01/2015 22:15

Didn't the OP indicate that the Ched Evans story had passed her by as well? I seem to recall her asking who he was.

simontowers2 · 22/01/2015 22:30

It's all bollocks though. why do one group of women get to decide what another group of women can or cant do career-wise? And why do mumsnetters get so uptight about tits appearing in a 'family newspaper' and yet seem to bang on and on about the rights of women to get their tits out in restaurants to feed their kids? Either tits are a big deal or they're not.

pippitysqueakity · 22/01/2015 22:39

Yeah, simon you are right.
Tits are just tits. Newspaper, or feeding babies, it's all the same innit. Oh! wait...Hmm

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 22/01/2015 22:40

Ffs simon nobody has mentioned dictating what women do for a career whether that's getting their tits out or getting shat on for a living. It's about the normalisation of women being objectified in the most inappropriate of places.
And how you can even compare this to breastfeeding- laughable.

simontowers2 · 22/01/2015 22:45

It is dictating it though sharon. Some women launch careers from page 3. People like you are saying they shouldnt be allowed to do that. Re breastfeed, tits are just tits are they not. So why the big deal when they are in a paper??

RumbaRumba · 22/01/2015 22:45

I just spat out my tea when I read someone comparing page 3 to breastfeeding.

Just goes to show you really can't argue with stupid.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 22/01/2015 22:52

Oh the bottom feeders are out...
I find it ironic that people allege that those who are against page three have a problem with boobs. Surely it is those who think it is OKto stick them in a newspaper with a headline saying, in substance, "LOOK!! TITS!!!" who have the issue with them. it would be far more normal to simply let them be. They're only boobs. We all have them. really nothing remarkable there at all. Certainly nothing worth putting in a paper. Fucking weirdos.

ilovesooty · 22/01/2015 22:52

I might have known simontowers2 would turn up on this thread. And I'm far from being a militant feminist.
