To want the dr to do more

I've been lying on my living room floor for 20 hours since bending down to pick up my phone and doing something to my back. I literally can't move-can't roll over, sit up, anything. Called gp and they have given me painkillers but they aren't touching the pain and I still can't move.

AIBU to want someone to do SOMETHING? How long am I expected to lie like this??!! (Self-pity alert!)

Happened to me not so long ago, was lying in pain, flat out on the floor, in tears as it hurt so much (and it takes a lot to make me cry... )Ambulance turned up, gas and air and morphine (first two doses didn't even touch the sides, but has and air is bliss..) turned out that I had torn an intercostal muscle over my ribs... I hope something as trivial (but yet painful!) has happened to you. Please call 999

MissYamabuki · 20/01/2015 21:22

Wow. You need urgent help OP. What would happen if you needed to get out of the house quickly in an emergency? I'm so Shock at a nurse just leaving you lying on the floor.

goodasitgets · 20/01/2015 21:25

Love, you need to ring 999

Mrsstevejones · 20/01/2015 21:25

You have my utter sympathies - bad backs are bastards. I had this hubby couldnt lift me off the floor as it hurt like hell and i am very heavy. He ended up rolling me on to a blanket and dragging me to the sofa. With lots of crying i managed to get on the sofa, then couldnt get off.

Was prescribed painkillers over the phone, dr refused to visit. A and E - when i got there a few days later told me i had sciatica and as i didnt have tingling in my toes or bladder probs they wouldnt do anything - nurse was horrid tbf told me to go home and get on with it.

Mum who is a nurse came to stay, got me tramadol, diazapam, oramorph and diclofenac. She made me get up and move even though i screamed in pain and begged her to stop. She would dose me up and then help me up. It did help although i hated her for it.

It took 4 months to be well enough to return to work and another 4 to be better. Swimming and stretching were the only things that helped - i swam everyday whilst off sick even though i could barely walk and DH had to help me get dressed. Not had another attack in 4 yrs but as soon as i get a twinge i go swimming. I lost 3 stone and took up yoga.

I hope you get better soon, sending you lots of best wishes

Namechangeyetagaintohide · 20/01/2015 23:05

Did you phone ?

Potcallingkettle · 21/01/2015 00:06

Gabapentin is the drug to ask for to control the nerve pain. Mixed with cocodamol and diclofenac, it takes the edge of the pain to get you moving again.

frankie001 · 21/01/2015 01:02

Hope your sorted now op. Back pain is horrible

KitKat1985 · 21/01/2015 08:16

How are you today OP?

Hobby2014 · 21/01/2015 08:19

How are you OP?

TSSDNCOP · 21/01/2015 08:27

My mums back spasmed just after Christmas. She's hardcore but was in tears. She's on 10mg morphine patches nd being referred to a pain clinic. Her GP took it super seriously, but I think some don't. Backs are bastards. Hope you called the Paramedics OP, they'll get you up and take it frm there.

Nicknacky · 21/01/2015 08:33

TSSDNCOP I'm having serious problems with mine, not dissimilar to the op which prevents me from feeling my legs and I can't move in bed. Thankfully it passes but it's so painful and scary. The GP blamed the weights I lift at the gym and told me women aren't biologically designed to lift weights and to leave it to men. And I'm not kidding, that's what I was told!

Thankfully I have seen another one who is referring me for an urgent MRI and X-ray and gave advice on gym use in the meantime.

Op, I hope you are ok x

ohdearitshappeningtome · 21/01/2015 08:34

I'm not sure what people expected the nurse practitioner to do? I would have at least expected a phone call follow up to see how the op was, if the pain killers were working!

Diazepam would have been used as an anti spasm and generally works quite quickly. The op has been given some pretty strong painkillers I'm surprised they haven't worked! I've had them myself with a bad back I've two slipped disks!

Op I hope you got help and having regular medsThanks

Still not called ambulance Blush dp persuaded me last night to wait until morning, as I was starting to be able to roll from side to side. This morning I was able to get on my knees and actually managed to crawl onto the couch. Actually in more pain however, which has now spread down the front of both thighs, and I,ve just been sick into a basin. Now stuck on couch as opposed to floor. Would I still be justified in calling them?

(Can you tell I have major issues about calling an ambulance?)

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 21/01/2015 09:29

You would have been justified 48 hours ago.

call them before you damage yourself even more

Lottiedoubtie · 21/01/2015 09:31

Oh FGS woman stop putting yourself at such risk and stop listening to your idiot DP and get proper medical attention.

Nicknacky · 21/01/2015 09:33

Get dp to give you a phone! Why is he so reluctant to get you help and happy for you to just lie there?!!

GokTwo · 21/01/2015 09:33

What's the worst that can happen? They will come and asses you and make their own decision. I'm all for being sensible and not wanting to call unnecessarily but when I was having heart problems I kept taking myself to a and e. They said to me "for goodness sake call an ambulance next time". My friend called an ambulance over Christmas when she had a back spasm like yours, they were brilliant and took her in and sorted out her pain.

GokTwo · 21/01/2015 09:34

Just do it now!!!!

BeggingYourPardon · 21/01/2015 09:36

Its a lot of painkillers for an empty stomach to handle if you aren't eating or drinking much.

Please call the ambulance! We aren't the Daily Mail ready to lynch you when you hit the first 9 on your mobile phone!

magpieginglebells · 21/01/2015 09:40

You are putting your health at risk not calling. You need to call now.

HelenaVagBasket · 21/01/2015 09:41

Phone 999. Your pain has got worse.

canyou · 21/01/2015 09:44

call them honestly they will tell you if you need them, they can send some one to you, you will be assessed and helped stay at home with appropriate help or moved to hosp, a call now is better as they have quite times in the day and this is one of them. both dp and Ddad are paramedics and would be happy with a call like yours Call the non emergency line or google your local base and ring them for advice if you dont want to ring 999
Brew Thanks get well soon

bouncingbelle · 21/01/2015 09:45

Just phoned ambulance and been refused one. They are going to contact NHS 24 and get them to phone me back. I now feel like a fraud and I just can't cope with another day on the floor.

Could honestly cry.
