Gives me the rage .... but I'm finding everything gives me the rage lately. Not sure if it's hormones or age.

I used to be so laid back.

OP posts:
Larrytheleprechaun · 16/01/2015 20:41

Am not sure if I do this, I don't think I do. But YABU to get the rage over it Smile

flipchart · 16/01/2015 20:43

I have absolutely no problem with this. DH actively encourages me to finish my drink when there is a drop left and he is about to refill.

FightOrFlight · 16/01/2015 20:46

My friend does this as she loves her wine and if we're sharing a bottle she wants to make sure she gets her proper ration Grin

mrscumberbatch · 16/01/2015 20:47

I don't want old wine touching my new wine...

If it was more than a mouthful I would ask that they didn't top up at that moment in time

iklboo · 16/01/2015 20:48

If I don't drain my glass, you get more wine than me. THAT's rage inducing (it's not really, not even wine should be rage inducing).

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 16/01/2015 20:48

It's to save the topper-upper work! If you top it up when it's half full you'll just have to do it again sooner Wink

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 16/01/2015 20:49

I hate it when the host want to fill the glass before my glass is empty.

Wait for me to finish please.

KnackeredMerrily · 16/01/2015 20:49

Yabu - get rid of warm half swilled wine, top up with lovely crisp wine.

tethersend · 16/01/2015 20:50

I like to be in charge of my (substantial) liquid intake. I HATE people topping up my glass. YABU.

tethersend · 16/01/2015 20:50

Imagine if people kept putting food on your plate as you ate.

pregnantpause · 16/01/2015 20:51

I do thisShockBlush I like fresh cold wine to fill the glass. Or if red , I don't want the oxidised warmer dregs mixing with the fresh from bottle. Probably only makes sense to me but I'm not about to change

- it's also a reflection on the fact that sometimes we have more than one bottle a night and it's a safety measure in case a new , different, wine bottle has been opened in the interim, no one wants Chardonnay mix with Sauvignon accident--

fredfredgeorgejnr · 16/01/2015 20:52

YABVU you should not be topping up a glass which is not empty, by offering you are requiring people to drink up to make up for your failings.

CatsClaus · 16/01/2015 20:53

yes, god forbid wines will mix...that's just not right.

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/01/2015 20:53

My DF tries to top up with different wine because 'it' all white'. Shock Raised by wolves, I'm assuming.

Pregnant I think you'll find there would never be a Chardonnay incident in my house. ABC daaaahhhling.

iklboo · 16/01/2015 20:54

Imagine if people kept putting good on your plate as you ate?

Tethers - have you met MIL then?

squoosh · 16/01/2015 20:54

Depends who I'm with. If I'm having a glass of wine with my Dad I'll drain and refill or else it'll be all gone by the time I'm ready. I display more refined behaviour when in more refined company.

Topseyt · 16/01/2015 20:57

I like to do this. Otherwise my husband gets a larger share of the bottle than me, and that would never do!! GrinWink Not at all.

MinceSpy · 16/01/2015 20:57

Why does it give you such rage?
I don't like the slightly warm wine in my glass polluting the nice fresh wine about to be poured in but please feel free to educate me.

simbacatlivesgain · 16/01/2015 20:58

It is the right thing to do. The bottle may have changed and wine mixing is awful. The temps will be different.

I would suggest that YABU and maybe should stick to warm own brand supermarket lager as you have no understanding of wine Smile

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/01/2015 21:00

Why doesn't it surprise me that practically the whole of MN are 'drainers' not 'hand over the top, I couldn't possibly'? My spiritual home.

Mammanat222 · 16/01/2015 21:01

As others say who wants nice, fresh wine on the dregs of warm wine like mine ever lasts long enough to get warm

Seriously thought a refill is different to a top up. Top ups must be when everyone is at least half way through and the exact same wine. Refills should wait until glasses are almost empty and then if need be a new wine can be introduced. Both should be offered and agreed. No one should just top up or refill.

Tinks42 · 16/01/2015 21:01

of course YABU!

why on earth would it put you in a rage?

blimey

Or is this one of "those" threads where the OP is trying to be uniquely funny... ummmm

StuntBottom · 16/01/2015 21:03

YABU. I do this if the refilling is from a different bottle to the wine in my glass. Heaven forbid you should mix a Pinot Grigio with a Chablis!

ilovemargaretatwood8931 · 16/01/2015 21:05

Smile This amused me! I think I do this, often chugging down great gulps of a drink in order to present an empty glass to be refilled- I think it's instinctive/ stemming from childhood, like feeling I have to finish everything on a plate before I can have seconds. I often gulp down cups of tea/coffee in a similar way if someone offers me another. I never really think about it, but I remember my dm always used to laugh at how I gulped and swilled tea down so urgently!

MrsTawdry · 16/01/2015 21:13

Sandy you need to come back and face the music! Grin

YAAAAABBBBBUUUUUU!
