The charming fellow had sex with a teenager the same week his wife was miscarrying their baby and apparently that was grounds for him being "weak".

AIBU to think he is scum and that the judge is a rape myth peddling idiot who should never be allowed to hold a gavel after insulting a victim?

Like Ofsted for teachers etc?

Is there any legal body that Joe Public can complain to? Or are they a law unto themselves hiding behind the law of the land?

This is disgusting. If someone underage gets a crush on an adult. An adult is uncomfortable. They are not 'tempted' ffs.
This judge deserves an almighty slap. She has completely let that girl down.
If you're wife is going through miscarriage you should be supporting her?
Foul manipulative animal through and through.

Sorry, got distracted by real life. I just really can't understand how someone could make those comments about a child. I hope to god she and her parents weren't there to hear her be blamed for her own abuse.

Regarding the miscarriage, if you took the child's age out of it for a minute..and just thought of it as "an affair" surely even then most people would see him as the worlds biggest bastard? Yes, why the hell why wasn't he by her side instead of abusing a teenager.

I cannot tell you how angry I am about this. I am the victim of a similar crime and I too was a 15 year old who was intelligent and manipulative and lied. So obviously I deserved what I got and deserved the destruction of my young life and deserved the years of being fucked up and therapy. I hate the idea of my former teacher and former lover sitting at home watching the news and smugly thinking "oh well staircase was intelligent and manipulative and lied to her parents and friends about us so it's a similar situation. I must have been entirely blameless- she groomed me!"

Fucking hell.

Does anyone know the procedure for writing to this judge? I would love to write her a letter explaining the impact such a similar case has had on me over the years and how triggering and disgusting her comments are.

The judges comments are sickening. She is a child and he the ADULT in a position of trust.

they are children and as such should be protected by adults

I do know that. But I blamed myself for a long time and have worked really hard and had a lot of therapy. I worry for any victims out there who haven't got to where I am and them hearing that and blaming themselves.

You can complain to the Attorney General about an unduly lenient sentence, it only needs 1 person to complain before he has to take a look at it

He has a web page with info about what to include, and the email address here

(in fact I think he has already received complaints about this and will review the sentence, but it would still be worth sending more complaints)

" Your honour, my client couldn't help disregarding his professional duty of care and responsibility as a teacher. His wife needed his support and care after a miscarriage that week, which left him vulnerable and easily persuaded into having sex with a female pupil instead of rushing home after work to be with his wife."

I was intelligent. I was manipulative. I had a crush on an older teacher.

He handled it with humour, grace and professionalism. He let me down so I knew damn well he wasn't remotely interested in a child and that when I was a lot older, boys my age would be happy to date me. That is the only way it should be handled.

Why does a Judge not know that?
