to wish that people would keep their fecking filthy dogs to themselves?

Lots of people on the school run (mainly mothers), in my area, take their dogs with them for some unfathomable reason. Most mornings DS3 and I have to dodge the fucking things as the owner has them on a long lead and they block the path with them and allow them to walk up to people.

This morning we had one pig ignorant woman let her dog almost trip DS over by the dog walking at his heels.

Another woman standing on the path talking to someone over the road, dog lead blocking the whole path, lets her dog jump up at my shopping bags, I have to ask her to move her dog.

Then further up, massive dog doing a big stinking shit (FFS who wants to smell that first thing in the morning in the street) dog lead again blocking the whole path, while woman chattering away on her phone, dog then comes to sniff at my bags.

ABU to say to people 'keep your filthy animal to yourself' and kick the next one who invades into my personal space.

Typical goady MN AIBU thread though.

Notice the Op hasn't been back. It's descended into a bun fight.

I hate the way people say 'I hate dogs' too. Like all dogs are the same. I listed in a previous post lots of different working dogs. I notice nobody has said 'I hate dogs but guide dogs do a good job' or similar. They're just launching in with their stereotypical ignorant responses, like some Jeremy Vine phone in. People really don't put a lot of thought into engaging their brain before activating their speech do they? I don't know why I'm surprised.

"I don't think there has been anyone posting on this thread who had not acknowledged that a jumping dog/ out of control dog"

No tiggy there hasn't. But since I've been on this thread this afternoon there have been plenty of people questioning / doubting that these jumpy / badly behaved dogs exist and they are all a fignment of "dog haters'" imaginations!

Because their dog is good, they almost don't believe that anyone else's isn't.

Even owners whose dogs are badly behaved sort of minimise / deny it with the "he's only playing / he won't hurt you" schtik

Some people love dogs. Some are indifferent (me). Some hate them. Twas ever thus

In my opinion taking dogs on school runs is ridiculous. You can't take them on school grounds so people tie their dogs up right at the gates. I don't want to squeeze past dogs to get into the school. Walk them during the day or early morning/evening. I would never take my dog on the scho run.

Taz When I was training Rescue Dogs I had a dog neckerchief and coat with IN TRAINING written on it. They were made for me, but you can buy them Amazon you can also get yellow "I need Space" ones for scared/nervy dogs.

I found it helps with the apologies if your doc has let you down Smile

tiggydiggydee · 14/01/2015 18:41

Of course badly behaved dogs exist just like badly behaved people
BitOutOfPractice but so do well behaved dogs and well behaved people Wink
I have in the past had nightmare walks with "dear old dog" where dogs off lead have jumped all over us..and i agree its a bloody pain! But that's rare and I can count those incidents on one hand over the last 11 years with him.
Personally I never walked mine on the school run...mainly due to children misbehaving around him and either pulling at him or treading on him. It isn't conducive to a nice pleasant walk for anyone..dog/owner or children trying to get to school!
I can understand that not everyone is a dog lover, that's fine totally get it. But this is all so horrible and heated and nasty...it's a shame.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/01/2015 19:01

Yes of course tiggy it's never nice to see people being quite so violently ant-dog. It makes me wince when I see people say they would kick a dog.

Like I say, I am largely indifferent to dogs apart from one or two I know and like. I just don't like being pounced on

QueenInTheNorth · 14/01/2015 19:20

Well, someone certainly has pissed in your cornflakes haven't they?

Be annoyed with the owner, not the dog, it's disgusting for you to say you'd kick a dog for being near your shopping! Your shopping is most definitely, not as important as an actual life. I'm fairly sure that my dog is probably cleaner than you, she's certainty one upped you in the personality department.

I have never encountered any of the antisocial doggie behaviour that people are reporting on this thread. Possibly it is because I've been around and owned dogs all my life so they can somehow sense that I'm not scared of them?

The love of my dogs have got me through some very tough times. When my fiancee killed himself (many years ago now) my parents old springer spaniel just used to sit next to me, leaning on me, nudging my hand or shoulder now and again.

Then, a few years later, when I was ill with cancer mine and DH's first dog, a border collie, laid beside me on the bed or would sit at my feet (or rather foot after I had one leg removed!).

Now we have three - 2 retrievers and another collie. They are extremely docile, quiet and well behaved the retrievers can't actually be arsed to move off the sofa long enough to cause any problems. They love our DDs and have put up with lots of bad behaviour from them over the years - but they are not interested in other kids, or adults. As far as they are concerned, we are the centre of their universe and they give us all their completely unconditional love.

Dogs are simple creatures to some extent - they are naturally happy, playful, intelligent, curious and funny.

I don't ask people to touch, play with or talk to my dogs. We are happy to keep them on leads and under control and away from anyone who is scared/allergic. All we ask in return is that people that don't like them (hate them, feel nauseous, whatever) stays away from them and don't annoy them, or allow their children to annoy them.

Well said zeezeek. And Flowers for all the shit you seem to have had happen. Good lord.

Non - dog owner here and can appreciate the happiness they might bring.

However even a cursory glance at the "Doghouse" section here on MN makes grim reading... Dogs attacking other dogs, anal gland juice, cleaning up after them masturbating, suddenly deciding to pee and poo all over the place, eating their own and other dog's poo.

And the worst is the "He's just being friendly" excuse. I heard that just before an owner's dog (near a busy school) tried to sink it's teeth into the head of a four year old child. My friend's little boy required 12 stitches. The most horrific thing I have ever witnessed.

My DH gets up very early to cycle to work and quite often encounters dogs off leads that chase his bike or dog owners who are trying to get away with not picking up. Rather than getting into an argument, he's found the best thing to do is to film the owner and dog and then post on tinterweb.

It soon makes them get their dog under control (or change their route)
