to wish that people would keep their fecking filthy dogs to themselves?

Lots of people on the school run (mainly mothers), in my area, take their dogs with them for some unfathomable reason. Most mornings DS3 and I have to dodge the fucking things as the owner has them on a long lead and they block the path with them and allow them to walk up to people.

This morning we had one pig ignorant woman let her dog almost trip DS over by the dog walking at his heels.

Another woman standing on the path talking to someone over the road, dog lead blocking the whole path, lets her dog jump up at my shopping bags, I have to ask her to move her dog.

Then further up, massive dog doing a big stinking shit (FFS who wants to smell that first thing in the morning in the street) dog lead again blocking the whole path, while woman chattering away on her phone, dog then comes to sniff at my bags.

ABU to say to people 'keep your filthy animal to yourself' and kick the next one who invades into my personal space.

that should have been ' ' marks, as opposed to " "

I'd love to see all these fictional responsible dog owners in real life.

I regularly take walks that together cover a 2 mile or so radius from my house. Women walking dogs - about 1 in 8 carry poop bags. I have never, ever seen a man carrying one. The streets are covered in faeces, every 5 yards or so, and they're not even in a pile but rather dotted up the road. I've seen numerous dogs running in the main road while owners shout come here, whatever its name is. These dogs are MC faves CKC spaniels, labs, terriers generally. Don't see many "status" dogs.

Other pets - cats, rabbits, hamsters and so on - aren't inflicted on the general public the way dogs are.

And yes, dogs do smell really bad. They do. Sorry.

ExitPursuedByABear · 14/01/2015 08:06

How the Jeff do you know who is carrying poo bags? I keep mine in my pockets until needed.

Taz1212 · 14/01/2015 08:06

Training a jumpy puppy to not jump is one of the harder areas to train. Our puppy never ever jumps on children, thanks to little girls training him on the school run. Wink but he does jump on adults. We do put him on lead if the is anyone around us/approaching us on walks, but sometimes we miss, and he spots the person first. If he does jump on them I am mortified and apologetic, but I'm sure most of them assume he's an untrained dog. What he really needs is a whole load of strangers to volunteer to ignore him as he jumps on him- that's how we stopped the children jumping- but that's unlikely to happen so I suspect it'll be many months before he reliably doesn't jump.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 14/01/2015 08:12

I wouldn't take my dog on the school run because I find that most children have no concept of how to behave around animals and try to poke their fingers in his eyes, pull his tail, maul him etc. Not fair on the dog.

Telltale bulge showing something in the pocket, Exit?

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 14/01/2015 08:13

Altinkum is DS allergic to dogs? How is it a huge risk to his life?

DropYourSword · 14/01/2015 08:15

Alltheprettyseahorses it's absolutely the norm where I live.

MidniteScribbler · 14/01/2015 08:16

My poo bags are in my pocket. How would you know if I have any or not?

And you don't "see" the responsible owners, because they aren't the ones doing things which offend you.

And not all dogs smell, what a ridiculous statement. Unless you've smelt every single dog in the world, then you're just full of shit. I spend my weekends at dog shows and trials, surrounded by a thousand dogs, and no one has asphyxiated from any overwhelming smell from any of those thousand dogs yet.

flyingmonks · 14/01/2015 08:18

Where are the dog behaviourist trainers please to give OP practical advice?

Yes of course owners should keep them on a short lead and prevent them from approaching people.

However, OP, if you "blank" a dog, that means giving no eye contact, nothing verbal, no reaction at all to them, most dogs will not find you interesting enough to interact with and will ignore you.

It is possible with most dogs to ward them off with say a shopping bag or a closed umbrella placed between you and them, (not hitting them,) still without making eye contact. No reaction from you means you are less interesting to a dog, meaning there is less likelihood of an approach by a dog and less likelihood of unwanted attention from a dog.

And I keep my poo bags in my bag, no way anyone would be able to see if I had them or not.

I have lived in many places, 3 European capital cities (one of which is renowned for it's dog fouling), currently live in a very large city in the SW. The place I have lived with the worse dog fouling problem was the very naice, extremely middle class, famous village in South Gloucestershire.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 14/01/2015 08:21

Altinkum that is fair enough, your DS should be able to get into school safely and if anyone asked me to keep my dog away for that reason I would be more than happy to do so.

AllThePrettySeahorses 'Telltale bulge showing something in the pocket' really?! Grin this thread is becoming ridiculous.
Firstly you DO NOT have a great bulge in your pocket when you have poo bags in them Grin they are small...you know..enough to pick a bit of poo up with! I carry 5 in my pocket and that is more than enough and I never have pockets bulging! You can't possibly tell if someone has them in their pocket!
Now I do agree that any owner not picking up after their dog is terrible, also agree that I never took mine on a school run...because its just too hectic that time of day.
However where I live I never see poo covered streets and the only time I can remember stepping in poo was recently when I took my son back to Uni (large city and never happened before!).
Oh and my dog doesn't smell....unless he's just rolled in fox poo Grin
Right leaving this thread now because some horrible dog bashing going on and it saddens me. There are some pretty unpleasant people on MN there really is!

I'm off to walk my gorgeous dog in the countryside (and pick up his poo!!!!!)...have a lovely day everyone!

TheNewStatesman · 14/01/2015 08:29

"Our puppy never ever jumps on children, thanks to little girls training him on the school run. wink but he does jump on adults. We do put him on lead if the is anyone around us/approaching us on walks, but sometimes we miss, and he spots the person first. "

Then I suggest you keep your puppy on a lead until he is trained not to jump up on people. I don't want dogs (of any size) jumping up on me. He sounds like a complete nuisance.

TheNewStatesman · 14/01/2015 08:30

Also, LOLing at all the people who insist that their dogs don't smell. Look, all dogs smell. Some more than others, but they all smell to some extent, because they are made out of dog not plastic. If you live surrounded by doggy smell, you will lose your sensitivity to it, but it is evident to other people.

OttiliaVonBCup · 14/01/2015 08:32

I think Seahorses means a full poo bag.

Sometimes the dog does not do a poo, sometimes the bag gets deposited in a bin, most park have dog poo bins.

It doesn't mean the person does not carry bags on them. Also, I always carry spares and am not shy to offer if I see someone not picking up.

Eww who'd put a full bag of poo back in their pocket!!!??? I've never seen anyone do that! Pick it up and carry it and hopefully find a bin while out walking or take it home...but never would I put it back in my pocket Confused
right really am off for a dog walk now............

ExitPursuedByABear · 14/01/2015 08:37

My dog stinks.

Kab13 · 14/01/2015 08:38

They are probably walking the dogs after dropping the kids off. Saving time.
There's no problem with this but they should be keeping them with them, on a short lead and paying attention.
Yadnbu to expect this but maybe a tad unreasonable to ask them to keep their filthy animals to themselves though. Probably wouldn't go down well, worth a try though?

ExitPursuedByABear · 14/01/2015 08:39

Who said anything about full poo bags in pockets?

Jesus H Christ.

Some people wilfully misinterpret everything they fucking read.

MidniteScribbler · 14/01/2015 08:40

The only thing my dogs smell of is shampoo and grooming products.

OttiliaVonBCup · 14/01/2015 08:41

What would you put a full poo bag your pocket?

Confused
