to wish that people would keep their fecking filthy dogs to themselves?

Lots of people on the school run (mainly mothers), in my area, take their dogs with them for some unfathomable reason. Most mornings DS3 and I have to dodge the fucking things as the owner has them on a long lead and they block the path with them and allow them to walk up to people.

This morning we had one pig ignorant woman let her dog almost trip DS over by the dog walking at his heels.

Another woman standing on the path talking to someone over the road, dog lead blocking the whole path, lets her dog jump up at my shopping bags, I have to ask her to move her dog.

Then further up, massive dog doing a big stinking shit (FFS who wants to smell that first thing in the morning in the street) dog lead again blocking the whole path, while woman chattering away on her phone, dog then comes to sniff at my bags.

ABU to say to people 'keep your filthy animal to yourself' and kick the next one who invades into my personal space.

I like dogs but not on the school run. They just get in the way of the already very narrow path next to a busy road. Plus the school bans them from the property anyway for obvious reasons so most get tied to the railings which is even worse!

LouiseBrooks · 13/01/2015 20:51

It's not the dog, it's the owner who hasn't trained it properly. Kick the owner, not the dog!

SirChenjin · 13/01/2015 20:53

A dog that cannot be recalled, that runs at you barking and jumping up, that pins your child up against a fence, that runs at your child and knocks it over, that frightens your child with its barking so that it falls off their bike etc etc is out of control.

And if those instances are "very few and far between and very rarely are they just pottering around in the local park or woods" then lucky you - because it's not like that round here. The dubious joys of living in an urban area with few woods and country parks, and dog owners who have no consideration for other users of those areas.

I just can't imagine a lab bothering its arse enough to run up and bite a horse.

LST · 13/01/2015 21:20

I live in the middle of a council estate and see staffies without collars and leads on a daily basis.. and I have never ever seen a child pinned up against a fence.

whothehellknows · 13/01/2015 21:25

The owner of the dog that bit the horse was on really dodgy ground, actually. If a dog injures another animal (even if it's on lead) is considered "dangerously out of control", and can result in prosecution, fines and the animal seized or put to sleep.

I do get really cross with owners who don't control their dogs in public, as ultimately they can be putting the dog's life at risk. I love dogs, but I have no patience for the "Oh, my precious fluffy wuffy puppy" types who treat their dogs like babies. They aren't babies or accessories, they're clever animals and they need attention and continuous training to live safely and contentedly. If you can't put in the work and dedication, you shouldn't have a dog.

Seeing dogs on the school run makes it more bearable. I love to see them all lined up and give them a little chuck under their chins

SirChenjin · 13/01/2015 21:34

I know - it's hard to believe something when you don't want to.

Fence incident was when DC3 was 4 - out for a walk with him on a trail behind some houses. 2 cocker spaniels "being friendly" according to the owners, ran at him barking and leaping at him, had him up against the fence.
Knocked over - twice on a beach (DD/retriever and DS/great dane) and once in the park (DS/boxer). Retriever owner couldn't give a fuck, great dane said it was DSs fault because he had a ball, the dog thought he was playing and DS should have dropped his ball apparently. Ball (new) was chewed to bits. Boxer owner out on a bike ride with his son, with dog running off lead - was horrified and apologised profusely, and turned round to take dog home.
I couldn't give a fuck if you believe me - I am not in the habit of lying.

LST · 13/01/2015 21:36

I didn't say I didn't believe you. You are making out it happens on every street corner.

SirChenjin · 13/01/2015 21:40

whothe - Dsis is considering phoning the community police officer about it. She has a dog herself, but he is put on the lead when other people appear. She is incredibly easy going and loves animals but even she is getting a bit pissed off with dog owners who can't control their dogs and don't give a shit - after that incident with her horse and young DD, and being bitten by a dog who again was "just being friendly" and who drew blood at one of the houses she visited with work (she's a community nurse)

Shattered2014 · 13/01/2015 21:41

I booked a Groupon offer for IPL sessions locally.s The ad didn't mention the dog which runs around jumping up at & sniffing the customers on every visit. Am not impressed.

SirChenjin · 13/01/2015 21:41

No- you are interpreting it as every street corner.

GogoGobo · 13/01/2015 23:05

This thread reminds me of the fight scene in The Matrix except in this thread it's dog haters which just keep coming and coming. As for the people who's streets are literally running rivers of shit.....more like running rivers of bullshit!

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 13/01/2015 23:45

Absolutely Gogo Grin

Where are all these marauding menaces and piles of dog shit? Where the hell do you people live?

I'm not surprised at all the ignorant dog hating on here. Mumsnet is a vast cross section of the community and as with all inflammatory threads you will get a few extreme nut jobs who troll bitch for the sake of it.

Just to name but a few -

  • guide dogs
  • police dogs
  • search and rescue dogs
  • sniffer dogs
  • therapy dogs
  • gun dogs
  • bomb sniffer dogs
  • cancer sniffer dogs
  • sheepdogs

There's probably more but it's late and my brain is tired. Suffice to say, all these dogs are bred and utilised for their intelligence and natural skills. Some of them save lives. Some of them are trusted to do an important job.

I wouldn't trust some of the dog haters on here to clear up my dogs shit.

BoredChurch · 13/01/2015 23:59

Last Sunday I saw a woman let her dog fowl next to a riverside path that is really popular with families. There were lot of kids around. She saw her doing the crap so it wasn't that she didn't notice.

It's never the dogs fault.

People who don't clear up after their dogs are horrible.

BoredChurch · 14/01/2015 00:01

I don't think posters are 'dog hating' they 'irresponsible selfish dog owner hating'

Big difference.

tinselfan15 · 14/01/2015 01:02

YANBU. Some dog owners are very considerate, train their dogs properly, are sensitive to people (esp children) around them. These people also tend to own very very well behaved dogs.
Other dog owners (and there's loads of them unfortunately)think that because they love their dog, you should love it too and want to be around it with your young children, no matter how poorly trained the dog is. And if their dog makes you or your child uncomfortable it's you fault and you've woken up on the wrong side of the bed. I actually like dogs. But absolutely hate some dog owners out there.

TheNewStatesman · 14/01/2015 02:23

I wouldn't kick a dog for blocking my path or going near my shopping. That said, if a dog actually jumped up at me or my child it would get booted into next week. I do not intend to hang around waiting to find out if it is going to bite or not.

Am I missing something? Huge risk to life? Confused

ithoughtofitfirst · 14/01/2015 06:50

Scabby dog owners give dog owners in general a bad rep. Like the fucker who let their dog run up to ds in the park and knock him over. The owner called him/her and they returned to them with no issues. Oh well thank you very fucking much you couldn't have done that before your dog assaulted my child? The dog can't help it. The owners can though.

So don't be kicking dogs now OP Wink

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/01/2015 07:38

Huge risk to life might by overstating things somewhat unless the dogs are actually wild wolves.

^ this. The accusations of "you obviously hate all dogs" always crop up on these threads. I don't hate dogs per se, and I don't imagine many do - well trained dogs are brilliant animals. What I do hate are those owners who don't or won't accept that their dogs are poorly trained or don't have good recall and then don't react accordingly - and the owners who leave their dog's shit on pavements or grass verges are skanky bastards who should be publicly named and shamed and made to clear up all the dog shit in the neighbourhood with their bare hands.
