AIBU?

to suggest that if we start to hate eachother, the terrorists have won?

Having glanced at some of the threads on here since the Paris attack, I can't help feeling we are eating into their hands. Their actions, while tragic in their consequence only become far reaching if they increase suspicion and hatred between Muslims and non-Muslims. I'm amazed by the suggestion that many Muslims support these attacks. Dh and I are Muslim and we have never met a single person, here or abroad, who has agreed with the terrorist attacks of the last few years. If I did meet someone like this I would tell the police.
Could I ask everyone to remember that most humans want to live in peace and know that they and their children are safe and want the same for others too? Thank you.

And Al Jazeera reported today that right wing israelis have sent death threats to journalists at the Haaretz newspaper after they posted a cartoon detailing the number of gazan journalists killed by Israel last year. So you see there are fanatical loons from all religions.

Dont even get me started on Bush and Bliar.

My thoughts entirely theboody. Im watching this thread with curious fascination. Im gobsmacked, i really am, at the tone of it which is essentially one of 'agree with us liberals or you will be branded a hater.' I mean seriously, wtf???

Yup that's right two world leaders committing murder for oil and infrastructure deals because "God" told them to - this Paris thing couple of nutters kill a handful sad yes but ffs keep it in context. Get your knickers in a twist over Israel who over the summer went about a genocide ... Oh no that's right because Muslims lives are not important are they!

I'd love to be able to go back in time and talk to the historical Jesus, just to see what he actually said. Not filtered through the gospels or Paul.
I wouldn't get far though, I don't speak Aramaic.

Not and Slaggyisland, thank you for enlightening me about the attacks on Doctors. That is appalling. But again I would put it to you, where in the New Testament does Jesus sanction such actions?

George bush said God told him to invade Iraq
Yeah, but George was a bit thick though, wasn't he? Grin

I am really quite intolerant of violence and of the incitement of violence - does that make me a liberal?? Confused Maybe it does. I could live with that.

I was hoping the shooters from Paris would not have been shot so they could not be counted as martyrs, not because I felt sorry for them.
Did any of you see the mother of one of the shot policemen? Who was of course muslim? How can you not see that we have more in common with that bereaved family than with the shooters??

Machair - very welcome. I'm not sure that the New Testament deals with abortion, but I'm not really familiar with it.

Disingenuous? Moi? No, I think that it is heartening to see that not all mumsnetters hold some of the misconceptions and unsavoury sentiments expressed on the other threads.
I think you're just having some fun aren't you simon? Go on, admit it.

Maybe the whataboutry of other religions can take a back seat for a while and understand there is a conversation that needs to be made.

The German newspaper that published the cartoons was firebombed.

not no worries.

However I really really detest the mumsnet thing that unless you agree with the liberal left wing party line one is immediately classed as a rabid UKIP racist.

It's sooooo boring dear.

Thanks for this thread OP, my muslim brother has travelled to Paris to participate in the rally and a muslim friend who lives in France also went to show her support and solidarity with the French and the rest of the world against this kind of terrorism.

The other threads on MN over the last couple of days have both scared me and enlightened me, it's interesting to get an insight into others perspectives and how they view me as a Muslim on the bus or tube while I'm doing the school run or commuting to work. To think that some people may consider me to be a violent terrorist who is out to harm them is vey sad, and frankly disappointing.

I CAN understand why people are fearful though, in these awful times emotions are expectedly heightened and fear overtakes rational thought.

I am shocked and appalled by the terrorist attacks that have taken place in Paris over the last few days. The attack on the offices of Charlie Hebdo and the loss of 12 innocent lives and injury of others is a criminal act, which is against all principles of faith.

As a Muslim, and more importantly as a human being, I unreservedly condemn the brutal murders of the journalists and the poor police officer - Ahmed Merabet, as well as the victims murdered in the Kosher Grocery store - most likely targets because Jewish people would be shopping there, although one of the assistants employed by the store I believe was a Muslim, which goes to show there is and can be unity amongst the faiths.

Justanotherlurker so have a number of mosques.
So, yet more people basically being dicks to each other and the really important thing in the wake of all of this is that we don't, as per the point of the OP.

See, I don't think that there is anything party-political about acknowledging the human tragedy of these events (and others like it) and attempting to display some solidarity with everybody affected by horrible acts of violence. And that does include 'normal' muslims and their families.

Yes but this thread isn't one of those theboody. I think the OP was quite clear on that. Seems very reasonable to me. Of course we don't all agree with each other but I don't understand what is objectionable about the opening post. Really I don't.
And some posts do have really unsavoury undercurrents.
