AIBU?

to suggest that if we start to hate eachother, the terrorists have won?

Having glanced at some of the threads on here since the Paris attack, I can't help feeling we are eating into their hands. Their actions, while tragic in their consequence only become far reaching if they increase suspicion and hatred between Muslims and non-Muslims. I'm amazed by the suggestion that many Muslims support these attacks. Dh and I are Muslim and we have never met a single person, here or abroad, who has agreed with the terrorist attacks of the last few years. If I did meet someone like this I would tell the police.
Could I ask everyone to remember that most humans want to live in peace and know that they and their children are safe and want the same for others too? Thank you.

Oh for heaven's sake Back don't be so pedantic. I simply said that mosques had also been targetted, to evidence that the tensions were going both ways. Which theye have.

There was an explosion at a kebab shop which happened to be near a mosque.

Maybe just a dodgy kebab then. Plenty of them around. Sorry.

Are you at it again SlaggyIsland Your link about mosques being firebombed. doesn't go to news about mosques being firebombed.

three blank grenades were thrown at a mosque they are used for gaming so not dangerous apparently. A bullet hole was also found in a window of the mosque. which IS dangerous but not firebombing. Oh and the mosque was empty.

Several shots were fired in the direction of a Muslim prayer hall shortly after evening prayers. The hall was empty and it doesn't say if any of them actually hit it.

Machair since you asked if the incident of the elderly woman ordered to be killed by the prophet was in the Quran, it isn't but it's in the Hadith. Umm Qirfa's tribe, which she led, tried many times to kill the prophet. In one incident they attacked a muslim convey on its way to Syria and killed some of the Muslims. The ones that survived made it back to tell the prophet who then dispatched a force who did indeed kill her and those who fought with her.

So she wasn't a little old woman who sat around minding her own business, she and her tribe which she led were trying to kill the prophet and he made a pre-emptive/retaliative strike if you like. It took place in a war situation and didn't just randomly happen. Yes the manner in which she was killed was gruesome but this was 1400 years ago where such methods of execution were probably the norm. Much like being hung, strung and quartered here 600 years ago.

This is an open forum not a club for girls who all agree with each other and all think the same on every subject.

This is precisely why mumsnet gets ridiculed for being left wing north London guardian readers.

Lol the body that's hilarious. Grin If you're not a Guardian reader here on MN you are very naughty indeed.

Yes but this thread isn't one of those theboody. I think the OP was quite clear on that. Seems very reasonable to me. Of course we don't all agree with each other but I don't understand what is objectionable about the opening post. Really I don't.
And some posts do have really unsavoury undercurrents.

See, I don't think that there is anything party-political about acknowledging the human tragedy of these events (and others like it) and attempting to display some solidarity with everybody affected by horrible acts of violence. And that does include 'normal' muslims and their families.

Thanks for this thread OP, my muslim brother has travelled to Paris to participate in the rally and a muslim friend who lives in France also went to show her support and solidarity with the French and the rest of the world against this kind of terrorism.

The other threads on MN over the last couple of days have both scared me and enlightened me, it's interesting to get an insight into others perspectives and how they view me as a Muslim on the bus or tube while I'm doing the school run or commuting to work. To think that some people may consider me to be a violent terrorist who is out to harm them is vey sad, and frankly disappointing.

I CAN understand why people are fearful though, in these awful times emotions are expectedly heightened and fear overtakes rational thought.

I am shocked and appalled by the terrorist attacks that have taken place in Paris over the last few days. The attack on the offices of Charlie Hebdo and the loss of 12 innocent lives and injury of others is a criminal act, which is against all principles of faith.

As a Muslim, and more importantly as a human being, I unreservedly condemn the brutal murders of the journalists and the poor police officer - Ahmed Merabet, as well as the victims murdered in the Kosher Grocery store - most likely targets because Jewish people would be shopping there, although one of the assistants employed by the store I believe was a Muslim, which goes to show there is and can be unity amongst the faiths.

Yeah, but George was a bit thick though, wasn't he? Grin

I am really quite intolerant of violence and of the incitement of violence - does that make me a liberal?? Confused Maybe it does. I could live with that.

I was hoping the shooters from Paris would not have been shot so they could not be counted as martyrs, not because I felt sorry for them.
Did any of you see the mother of one of the shot policemen? Who was of course muslim? How can you not see that we have more in common with that bereaved family than with the shooters??
