Sorry, wrong CE thread. Was talking about Question Time.

AliceinWinterWonderland · 08/01/2015 23:34

oh but she read the case, so obviously she knows it all.... Hmm

AliceinWinterWonderland · 08/01/2015 23:35

it comes off so clearly that she feels the woman was trash that got drunk and slept around and deserved what she got.... just appalling...

AliceinWinterWonderland · 08/01/2015 23:36

and she said "the jury didn't believe her claims of rape"... well, so much for reading the case then, as SHE didn't claim rape... the MEN said they'd had sex with her and she didn't remember it at all....

merrymouse · 08/01/2015 23:38

So in jhb's world if you get into bed with somebody you are essentially up for having sex with anybody who happens to wonder into the room?

merrymouse · 08/01/2015 23:39

Wander

MrsVamos · 08/01/2015 23:40

She made herself look ridiculous, as far as I'm concerned.

AliceinWinterWonderland · 08/01/2015 23:41

the frustrating thing is that you KNOW there are people sitting at home, nodding along with her, agreeing with every word.... god, why is the issue of consent SO FUCKING HARD for people to understand?!?!

lurkernowposter · 08/01/2015 23:42

Time for all of those protesting against Evans to take a deep breath and get ready to protest after he is linked with the next club and the next and the next, this isn't a with hunt by the way!

All the while lee Hughes, convicted of killing someone whilst dangerous driving is allowed to play football. Marlon King convicted of a sexual offence was allowed to return to playing football without any protest, that is reserved for Ched Evans only. No witch hunt here though, no mob rule, no trial by social media.

As distasteful as it is, Evans has served his time in just two and a half years (for those who don't know, time served means time spent in prison, not a sentence being served), it's a free country, he isn't subject to a CRB check and should be allowed to return to work, as others are.

The moral outrage whipped up in the press and social media was always in danger of getting out of hand and has resulted in death threats and threats to rape family members of staff at Oldham Athletic.

Take another deep breath.

AliceinWinterWonderland · 08/01/2015 23:43

If she had a few drinks, maybe one was spiked or much stronger, so she was out of it, and woke up naked, she be the first one screaming rape.. but she's a wealthy public figure, so of course it should be prosecuted. But the young nobody is different in her eyes. I guarantee it.

PhaedraIsMyName · 08/01/2015 23:49

My husband was shouting at the television at JH-B in utter disbelief at what she was saying.

AliceinWinterWonderland · 08/01/2015 23:51

A point with Lee Hughes - these online protests were not as huge and things were a bit different in that regard in 2007 when he was offered a contract after his jail time. I suspect if it had happened today, there would probably be more protest.

As far as Marlon King, it seems like he's never actually been OUT of trouble, so why in god's name he been playing so long is beyond my reasoning. Surely he must have been more trouble for his team "image-wise" than he was worth. Confused Is he currently in jail again?

merrymouse · 08/01/2015 23:53

Lurker, death threats and rape threats are presumably being investigated by the police. They certainly should be. They will no doubt be backed up by evidence.

If you would like to start a petition regarding lee Hughes or any other footballer whose behaviour falls below the standard that should be expected in professional sport, and you have a well reasoned argument, I think you would get a lot of support.

I don't think there will be more comment about ched evans if he gets on with his life out of the public eye, goes through the legal process and accepts the verdict.

However, we will continue to vigorously challenge those who mistreat women and spout rape myths.

MrsVamos · 08/01/2015 23:53

Phaedra

My DH is still ranting some very choice words about her !

I was so cross, I was rendered mute.

Which is highly unusual, for me.

ilovesooty · 08/01/2015 23:55

Julia Hartley Brewer's contribution to QT was utterly appalling.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 08/01/2015 23:56

Lurker, go start a petition about any one or indeed all of those people. Link it, I'll sign.

Nice to see that you couldn't give a shit about the endless rape and death threats made by Evans' fans though. And that you don't bother to RTFT.

AliceinWinterWonderland · 08/01/2015 23:58

I notice white suit woman didn't make ONE reference to the harassment and threats towards the rape victim. None.

lurkernowposter · 08/01/2015 23:59

Merry mouse, if you wish to challenge those who mistreat women, or spout rape myths then count me in.

If you want to ride a hysterical bandwagon in a crusade against one individual and not others, count me out.

lurkernowposter · 09/01/2015 00:02

Puffins, I've already condemned those that harassed Evans victim on here, it's there in black and white for you to read.

Ohfourfoxache · 09/01/2015 00:06

Why can't we use this as an opportunity to challenge the FA to keep all these bastards out of the game once and for all? Evans, Hughes, King - not one of them deserves to play professional football. Perhaps if they start to realise that his sort of behaviour isn't acceptable, we would have fewer people with misguided God complexes and therefore fewer victims?

AuntieStella · 09/01/2015 00:06

I think it is an utter disgrace about the other 'what about' cases, and would like to see a proper review of standards by the FA (good grief, I'm agreeing with the Shadow Minister for Sport).

Deplorable earlier cases do not however mean that everything is acceptable always.

The CE case is the current one. His nasty little 'mob rule' comment has undermined his (belated) apology considerably. The website is still up.

We still await news from GMP that any threats have been reported (and they have gone out if their way to say any such complaint will be taken seriously and investigated).

Do I take it that QT did not discuss the chair of the PFA's comparison to Hillsborough and the furious reaction so far? For I think that might have influenced considerably how people see the 'witch hunt'

Deux · 09/01/2015 00:06

We can't undo the past where criminals return to football but we can perhaps change the future.

Maybe the convicted rapist Ched Evans is the tipping point.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 09/01/2015 00:06

Why is it 'hysterical' ?

Ched Evans's website and his supporters have mistreated a woman, and spouted rape myths, and continue to do so.

BOFster · 09/01/2015 00:07

I'm now imagining mumsnet circa 1833- "OOOH, you were alright about slavery last year, I didn't hear you complaining then!" Hmm

clam · 09/01/2015 00:10

Jesus, I've just watched QT on catch-up. Who the hell IS that woman, Julia whatsit? And why did no one challenge her assertion that "the jury didn't believe the victim's claims about one of the men?" She didn't make any "claims" at all. Forgive me, I'm about to shout: CHED EVANS WAS CONVICTED ON HIS OWN TESTIMONY.

I have to believe that this Julia is meant to be an intelligent woman. She claimed to have read up about the case extensively. Then how the hell was she so mis-informed? And even Dimbleby referred to CE's "appeal."

Too cross to sleep now.
