Yes, you're right. Mandela was broadly guilty of the crimes he was accused of. Evans is completely guilty for raping a young woman in Rhyl, by his own testimony.

The major difference is that Mandela knew he was being a bad lad, whereas Evans is still going for the wide eyed innocent thing.

I think it's the comparing of the rapist Ched Evans to the Nobel peace prize winner and statesman Nelson Mandela that raises the eyebrow.
