If it would be, please ignore this.

If not, here it is. www.cmsolicitors.co.uk

Plenty of contact details too. :-)

Threats to oldham staff should obviously be investigated - anything on twitter shouldn't be difficult to trace.

I think the apology should be viewed as a start and taken in good faith - obviously he still has a long way to - getting rid of the website would be a clear next step.

If he feels he has been a victim of a miscarriage of justice he is entitled to the same legal processes of review and appeal as any other british citizen.

AliceinWinterWonderland · 08/01/2015 15:41

Exactly. If his apology is to carry any weight at all, he now needs to follow that up with closing down that website. Otherwise IMO it is indeed meaningless.

Jux · 08/01/2015 15:42

Oh bugger. Chard is not far from me. This is awful Sad

chockbic · 08/01/2015 15:43

Apparently his appeal is being fast tracked but the reason hasn't been given.

Is there a limit to the number of appeals you can make?

Jux · 08/01/2015 16:06

Chard UFC are going to sign him. This, from their FB page:

Whilst acknowledging the considerable media attention that surrounds the future of Ched Evans the club would like to confirm our stance on the matter.
We, the club, have held talks with our stakeholders and club partners and have agreed that the player in question has served his mandatory jail sentence and should be allowed to continue his career, we wish to offer Ched Evans a route back into football with a contract at Chard United.
We do however in no way condone any of Mr Evans actions which lead to his conviction which has made this decision increasingly difficult
We fully understand the scale of the situation and have contacted the PFA, Somerset FA and PSFL in regards to the signing of Mr Evans and have had reassuring dialog with all.
We would now like to welcome contact from Mr Evans representatives to finalize Ched Evans's route back to football, and welcome him to Chard United.

There are a few brave souls over on the Spectator website fighting the brave fight against Rod Liddle and his moronic supporters. Do feel free to join them - www.spectator.co.uk/columnists/rod-liddle/9410182/the-utterly-ludicrous-and-petty-campaign-against-ched-evans/

merrymouse · 08/01/2015 16:07

I think you can keep applying to the CCRC but you need significant new evidence/argument that hasn't previously been submitted to the CCRC and they won't review a case without new evidence/argument that hasn't previously been seen in court.

  • you can't keep reapplying hoping for a different result.
JohnFarleysRuskin · 08/01/2015 16:08

He might not want to go to chard, jux, don't panic!
I'm waiting for my lowly team to offer him a contract too. :(

Icimoi · 08/01/2015 16:11

Jux, you can presumably apply for permission to appeal as often as you want, but that doesn't mean that you are actually appealing. Any such application can only be made for good reason, normally fresh evidence that could not have been discovered before the trial.

I really wish the CCRC would get a move on and make a decision about whether they're going to support any appeal. At least we would then be in the position where either he would genuinely have an appeal ongoing, or people would have to shut up about the appeal.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 08/01/2015 16:11

I think chard are probably chancing their luck and taking the piss out of his insistence he will resume his football career a little bit. Their players are probably part-timers that far down the league too.

iamtheeggman · 08/01/2015 16:12

His apology is not meaningless, FFS. It is late. It is not unprompted. Its timing is poor. It is not an apology for the crime he has been convicted of. It is far short of everything he needs to do. But to say that it is meaningless is nonsense. It is a start, from which he can do the many other things he needs to do in order to be rehabilitated (see above).

Jux - no limit, but you need leave to appeal before you can have an appeal (RCE has applied twice and been refused leave twice, as the judges - a single judge in the first appeal, and a bench of three second time round - who heard his application for appeal found he had no reasonable prospect of its succeeding.

I personally wouldn't give a toss if he plays for Chard FC. At some point, playing football is no longer "high profile" and the fact that I had never heard of them until now says something.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 08/01/2015 16:12

From that chard statement, they havent actually spoken to him about it yet, which is what makes me think they are taking the piss a little

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 08/01/2015 16:14

Big, big emphasis that i think they are laughing directly at him, not the situation!!

BOFster · 08/01/2015 16:15

Yeah, I think that Chard think is a joke.

AliceinWinterWonderland · 08/01/2015 16:15

Chard has put this on their FB page...

We are receiving a large number of messages regarding our Ched Evans statement - please be advised we will not be making any further comments at this stage.

iamtheeggman · 08/01/2015 16:16

Icimoi, would that be the same Rod Liddle arrested for assaulting a pregnant woman (now his wife), who accepted a police caution for the offence, and then denied that he had committed a crime?

It's not that surprising he is defending RCE then, is it? Hmm

merrymouse · 08/01/2015 16:19

Sorry, looked at the spectator page comments and the article. Can't deal with that much ignorance and stupidity.

The irony is that it's uninformed opinions like liddle's that highlight how necessary it is to take a stand on this issue and encourage people to sign petitions.

I am particularly bemused by the argument that petition signers aren't supporting other more worthwhile causes - how on earth would anyone know?

Icimoi · 08/01/2015 16:22

Iamtheeggman, it would indeed be that Rod Liddle. And it is indeed boringly predictable that he would defend Evans. But it wouldn't hurt for him and the morons who agree with him to hear a few facts.

iamtheeggman · 08/01/2015 16:24

They might as well get Clayton McDonald to write an opinion piece on it!

Jux · 08/01/2015 16:29

Iamtheeggman, you may not give a toss if he goes to Chard but it's not that far from me, so I do.

I do really hope that you are all right, and that he wouldn't even consider coming here. I am slightly reassured Smile

Rod Liddle is (yet) another nasty piece of work.

AuntieStella · 08/01/2015 16:36

I've looked at the Chard FC FB page.

It's an attempt at humour. It's a small local team, where players have to cough up - another recent post: 'Training tonight on the Astro at 8pm 2 quid each'
